Bulletstorm Catch-All

So essentially this is being blown up as 2011's hot coffee.

Not quite.

Hot Coffee existed, this doesn't.

I still find hot coffee funny, seeing as I think you needed either a patched version of the game or console (can't remember which) to access it, and that it was just orphan code from a little experiment for gameplay they were thinking of.

Patch for the PC version IIRC.

I should have been clearer between patch and 'unofficial patch' or hack or whatever name is appropriate. From what I remember of SA, it only worked on the original version, and Rockstar reissued the PS2 version and a patch for the PC version with the only change being that it was impossible to get at the content. On that original version in an unmodified state, it was impossible to get at hot coffee through normal play, you needed some form of mod/hack to get to it.

That said, I never got too far with SA or ever saw hot coffee besides a screenshot, with the RPG aspects it felt too much like work.

I think this issue should highlight not the insanity of our news media outlets, but rather that any a-hole who sounds somewhat competent and can manipulate language to their means is able to get a PhD.

I've been an NRA member as long as I've been a gamer. It's nice to see someone else noticing this for a change.

There's an old saying: Figures don't lie, but liars figure.

Any time anyone tries to blame social ills on inanimate objects, it's usually with either bad faith (liars) or bad statistics (dupes).

That said, I'm looking forward to Bulletstorm. I was eagerly awaiting the return of Duke Nukem, but on watching the trailers I realized that most of what made Duke Duke is stuff that I don't want in my home anymore. If I can get some raucous, over the top sci-fi shooting action without also getting a heavy dose of pr0nography, I'm all for it.

Plus, the Bulletstorm demo was a blast.

Interesting read. An aside, isn't RPS another site that can't be trusted all the time also?

The only controversy I know of was the GamesRadar thing. They cropped watermarks out of pictures and used them, which was pretty dickish.

I had credit at amazon for trading games in, so I went ahead and preordered. I figured, I get 20 bucks in credit, if it sucks, I can easily sell for 40-50 on Craigslist or something and I'm good.

After mulling it over some I also decided to cancel my pre-order.

So, I forgot to cancel my pre-order. The game is arriving from Amazon today. Well, I hope that RPS hands-on is on target!

Interesting write-up over at WSJ.

Wowzers!

Russ did the Escapist review.

Is it any good? The answer to that question is: Yes, Bulletstorm is fun. It is innovative in some ways and disappointing in others, but on the whole it is incredibly fun. Mind-numbingly fun. It is so much fun they will have to re-write the definition of fun. All of the eggheads saying "fun is not the point of videogames" will lose their jobs once this game is released because, upon playing it, you will remember that fun is, in fact, the entire damn point of playing games and the only reason you may have ever doubted that was because you were playing games that were not this much fun.

Also Quinns has a full Wot I think at RPS.

This is starting to sounds like a must buy.

The video review supplement (embedded about 1/4 of the way down in the text review) is one of the funnier takes on the review process I've seen in quite a while.

I'm on Xbox Live right now if anyone wants to party up for some multiplayer.

I picked up the PC version, only got to tool around with it for 30 minutes or so but it seems like a good time.

Really? 7 comments on release day? Screw the reviews, my Goodjer meter for this is bottoming out right now. That, or are you all to busy playing? Or are we just to mature for that many dick jokes?

it's good, ive been playing some singleplayer but its worth playing so far.

I think a lot of people have been put off by the demo, if it's as good as the reviews say expect it to pick up.

I'm very tempted to cancel my Dragon Age pre-order and get this instead, launch day here is on Friday I should be able to get release day delivery.

My copy won't be delivered until tomorrow. I probably won't have time to play it until this weekend.

Edited: for loser typos.

That'd be me. If it shows up in the Redbox between now and the end of Thursday I'll get it for a night, otherwise it's on my $15 Gamefly-used list.

I think EA kicked their own ass a bit on this release. Releasing the DA2 demo the same day seems an odd call. I am sure it drew away some critical release day sales from fence riders.

The online lobbies are dead, and now I'm stuck on the "bad connection" screen for 5 mins. Nice!

I accidentally purchased this but decided to keep it. The 20 dollar credit brings the actual cost down to a reasonable amount. I should be able to play some of this (Xbox) tonight, if anyone wants to message me. Hopefully the online stuff gets worked out.

So far, so good. Favorite line so far: "I do not speak.. train." The one weird thing I've uncovered, aside from the absurdity of the game, is Grey and Ishi have voices that are interchangeable. The big difference is Ishi forms sentences like a Borg and Grey talks like the garbage man.

Also not really a big deal, but with reserving Bulletstorm at GameStop, you were able to pre-order Gears of War 3 for free. Don't know if I'm feeling that title, but it didn't cost anything, so I don't lose.

I think this game looks really fun, but not $60 dollar fun. I am going to wait for a price drop - but am excited to hear how you guys like it.

I am loving the game so far. To quote Arthur Gies, "It's... smart." I fit in a little over a half hour of single player and about an hour of Anarchy mode (online co-op). My friend and I had to cut ourselves off at wave 10 after about five, "Just one more..." moments. If we hadn't I would have been taking a personal day off because I would have stayed up until the we small hours of the morn playing it. This game is fun. I'm absolutely loving the mobility and options I have approaching each encounter. It's part action strategy, part shooter because the points awarded to you by your skill shots act as your currency.

On a closing note to actually perk interest: Within the first half hour I find characters I've met more interesting than those in any summer action movie I've seen.

Good luck getting a pubbie to actually follow the instructions in "blue" over special targets in Anarchy mode to get more points and to finish challenges.
