The Killzone 3 Red Eye Catch All

Okay, I've jumped in with a pre-order from Amazon.

Seems like the best place. 3 free unlock points, and a download code for some classic map pack.

Not sure what other retailers are offering.

Gamestop offer sucked, it gives you use of all weapons the first 24 hours. The other one is from Best Buy where you get double xp for the first 24 hours. I went with Amazon as well figured it had the best long term effects for me.

I went with Amazon for various reasons, but now that I've played in the Open Beta and understand what the unlock points actually go toward, I'm glad I picked them. It just seems more useful in the long-term than a limited double XP bonus, or limited use of all the weapons. With 3 free unlock points, depending on how you use them, you can really stack the deck in your favor from the get-go, and you don't have to do it within 24 hours of putting the disc in your PS3.

Also, the classic map pack consists of 2 maps from KZ2, somewhat retooled to take advantage of the new systems in KZ3. If you look at the screen shots, they look different from the original versions too, with extra plant life and a shift from night to day (if I remember the maps correctly). One map is for Guerrilla Warfare and the other is for Warzone. They will also be made available as Day One DLC, but I don't think a price has been announced. Surely not much for only two maps. Still, it's nice that they give you a map bonus for ALL the pre-orders, yet if you didn't pre-order the game, you can still play them on Day One for a few extra $$$, rather than 30 days later or some other delay.

8 days, folks.

8 days.

I think I am going to pick this up now that I was actually able to get into some matches. I have a few small issues with what I've seen so far, but the gameplay is good and the controls are vastly improved from KZ2. Can I get an invite to the GWJ clan?

Pyrrhus Rise is way better than Blood Gracht. But at least it's not Radec Academy.

Radec Academy should have been called Death Hallways.

I definitely preferred Pyrrhus Rise over Radec Academy, but the ridiculous sniping in Pyrrhus got pretty annoying. Still, it was a relatively tactical map, while Radec seemed to be a bit more "run and gun" FPS.

I'm willing to bet they'll make Pyrrhus Rise available in a map pack down the road...and I will buy it.

Invited. And friend request sent as well.

Still not sure if this carries over, but I'll definitely need to pass leadership on to someone who has the game pre-ordered, just in case. Who wants it?

And apparently there was another patch today.

I don't mind running the clan, but I'll be out of town for the first 3-4 days of release, so maybe someone who will be around at the start of it should be first officer (if they work the same way as K2's did).

I can't seem to find a "promote to officer" button, just a "transfer leadership" one. Seems like only one person can be in charge and stuff, which is a little limiting. I guess I should go check on the forums and see if beta clans will actually carry over anyway before I stress too much about it.

If it IS going to transfer from beta to release, then I guess it doesn't matter that I'll be away, because people who want in for the first few days will have the chance to join up early.

Something that I found from the demo, is that it's really quite hard to work in a squad; there's no 'spawn on squad' you see. Plus with the removal of tactical spawns - and spawn points that can be captured - it's easy for your squad to be spread all over the place.

I did a quick search on the official KZ3 forums and found nothing saying it will carry over. I'm assuming since your player stats won't that the clan information will not either.

Aside from inviting and removing members, all members can create and join clan matches. The clan leader doesn't have a lot of needless tasks, sowe decided that the officer role wasn't needed.

Nothing else in the clan thread about beta to retail.

Lots of pissed off people about squad spawning and tournaments and matchmaking and all kinds of stuff over in those threads. You'd think GG killed their families or something.

Enjoyed the hell out of K3 beta myself, not sure what all the fuss is about.

If there's any way to give me some form of clan control, I'd be happy to take some of it on. I'll be around for those first few days, and my wife and daughter will be out of town that weekend, so I fully intend on playing KZ3 to my heart's content.

ilduce, if you want, you can be clan leader for a while and then pass it to me if you get tired of it. If there's enough support here for the game to really use the clan long-term, we can trade it back and forth.

Whatever works, man. It looked like KZ2 had some kind of "Captain" and "Lieutenant" positions (as in, a gold star for one member, and two members with silver stars). Is there something like that in KZ3? As in, multiple people that can have clan editing abilities?

Regardless, you can put me there temporarily and I can shift control back over when you're ready. I don't mind in the least. So long as we can keep folks joining the GWJ clan!

Got a medal last night for achieving 50 melee kills. Almost have medic maxed; I'm not really considering the pistols or the silenced rifle in that count.

Unfortunately no they have been very adamant on the forums that they only want 1 person with any type of control for the clans. I don't recall offhand what the reasoning behind it is, but they are not planning on changing it.

That quote I had in my last post was from a developer, that's the only thing I could find about it. Everyone can create matches and squads and stuff, so the only real thing for the leader to do is invite or approve people.

Whatever works. Anyone that wants it can have it, so I won't be offended if someone else would rather take it on. I'm not in college, so I only have access to my PS3 from ~5:00 pm until ~10:30 pm CST.

Are there any clan management options built into the website? You'd think they could integrate that by now... If you can do web-based work, then I could do it at any time, as I'm always in front of a computer.

Again, if someone else wants it, go for it! Just offering to be available those first few evenings if we're looking for someone to be available. And I'm happy to relinquish it after those few days if someone else wants it.

I work all day so I won't be able to offer up, but thanks for the offer and sounds good to me if no one else can take it.

The website has invites listed and an option to cancel them, but I didn't see an option to send them from the site. Baffling.

I'll probably pass it to Glanton since he's dealt with it on K2.

Also, the single player demo released with tonight's PS Store update. Downloading now, I see SpacePoliceman is already playing. Glad he is, since that reminded me to get it.

Yep. And it's pretty goddam wild. Some of it has been demoed before--the derricks, and I recall the hull of the ship from somewhere. Also, it's loud in an awesome way. The ISA rifle sounds really beefy, and when I was getting shot, it wasn't my usual "Aw, sh*t, I'm being shot," but "Christ! I'm being shot! Covercovercover!" Sev also seems to have a bit of the Drake in him:

Also, there's a f*cking Macross missile gun! A gun that shoots thusly:

Beta ran out at midnight while I was playing. Overall I had a blast. It only took a few hours to max out a class, so I am hopeful the unlock points won't be too much of a grind come next week. I guess I will check out the SP demo now.

Sounds good, on the latter two counts. The former...well...I dunno what the deal is. It seems that Media Molecule can get things from the web to your PS3, in the form of user-generated level queues, so I wonder why Guerrilla can't. Perhaps a feature they can patch in eventually!

Aww

Well, I suppose maxing my Medic last night was an appropriate way to finish. For those that'll play online: It's a good idea to kill people when they're downed, but you must absolutely make sure the Medic is no longer kicking. Memorize those Medic helmets. Not only because medics can rez themselves (Triage), but if you've got at least two enemy medics they're deadly if the stick together. Cooldowns were lengthy enough, but don't cough at Triage->Rez, then the other Medic Triaging->Rez, and repeat.

All the reviews are claiming that the story is awful, but story be damned, shooting stuff is fun in Killzone. I really enjoyed that single-player demo. The jet pack is great, and they have somehow managed to make the visuals in Killzone 2 look dated. This is the prettiest console shooter I've seen, bar none. I feel like Killzone would work so much better as a Half-Life-like experience, never leaving the first person perspective.

I enjoyed the SP demo too. The game feels night and day better than KZ2. I hated that game because of the awful control scheme. If a FPS controls poorly, nothing will improve it for me. They really tightened things up in this one. They didn't fix the 'midget perspective' from KZ2, but I can overlook that as everything else feels really good.

This makes me sad. It's so weird looking at that game for any extended length of time. It's like that effect gets magnified the longer I play.
