That last point of Dustbowl was a freakin meat grinder of wrangled sentries and demo spam. We got our asses kicked all the way till the last minute. I didn't see, but whoever got the sentry down really turned the tide. I got on the last point as a heavy and got either 2 or 3 ubers in a row from different medics while the entire red team respawned. sh*t was intense.

I forget who it was but a soldier took it down as I sapped it.

And yeah, thanks Homer for the work you're doing.

I think it was me who shot it. It was indeed intense.

Okay, everyone cross their fingers while the server moves to St. Louis. I'll update the server thread with the new IP when it is finished (as well as here). My hope is that everything comes across without issue and neither Brainz nor I have to set everything up again. Hopefully this fixes any issues we have with the private.

Yippee! I hope.

I think I heard the sound of ukicks computer during this map from my room. It was just a constant stream of KK to him.

New server IP is 8.6.74.206. I have not tested it, yet. If you are an admin I will need to send you a new username and password.

I am not sure how I feel about this. Last night I found out that I am invincible as a scout as long as I strafe side to side. One a new server I may lose this power.

When you inevitably need to install everything again why don't you put mainline on there?

Connected to new private. Ping seems about the same, although the important test would be with more people.

Send me a PM about it. I won't remember this later nor will I be able to find it if I do.

So far the ping on the new server is a bit better for me, but hard to tell without a full server. But then it should be better for me since I'm in Michigan.

Pings weren't really an issue. Friday we had some stuttering issues but everyone's (and I mean everyone's) ping was under 100.

I believe the server keeps it updated. IIRC, the last update he checked it was already at the latest version.

Has anyone updated Sourcemod/Metamod to rule it out completely? I know brainz talked about it, but wasn't sure if he updated.

Yeah, I took a look at SM/MM after you brought it up, and we're running the latest versions of both. Which is not to rule it out completely, but the only way to know for sure would be to disable SM/MM one night with a full server and see how things go. If we continue to have warping on the new server, maybe that should be the next thing we test out.

Thank you, sir!

Welcome, 7inchsplit! Enjoy your many deaths by my hand.

Looking forward to it! Mostly I stand around looking at hats, perplexed, so killing me shouldn't be a problem.

We didn't even have a sentry for most of the match, it was just a bunch of demomen and kritzes...

Yeah you had a wrangled sentry for most of the map. It just didn't come much into play when we were pushed back so far by your 53 demomen.

What say we stress test the new private tonight?

I think one of our tourney teams might be having a scrim tonight on the private, but I find your ideas intriguing and would like to subscribe to your newsletter

Suicide Kings and Alt F4 have a scrimmage on the private tonight (I think 8pm Eastern?). Apart from that the server will be open for business, though.

That corner just before you round the point is BRUTAL with demo men spamming over the edge. It used to be the engy always setup there, I have been seeing defense hold it more and more.

Alt+F4 will be on at 7:30 EST for a short planning session and the scrimmage is set for 8:00.

Just quoting this in case anyone missed it, new Private address:

Mmmmm. I bet it still has that new server smell.

Thanks for reposting!

So have we had a new TF2 versus old TF2 discussion here? I'm a player who is only recently playing TF2 again after a long hiatus, and I feel that the game has changed significantly since Valve has allowed many new player-created weapons into the game.

I feel like the biggest difference between the game today and how it was is that your individual encounters are much more random. You can no longer see a class and know what to expect because that heavy could be carrying a brass beast or he could be wearing fists of steel. A demoman with an eyelander and targe is suddenly a melee class. I find that I need to be more cautious in my play as a result, and figure out what the opponent is doing before I expose myself. Even then I get surprised.

I'm not saying that the days when gameplay revolved around ubers and sentry nests is the only true TF2. I like the addition of kritzkriegs and poofer pyros as counters to ubers. I think the fact that engineers can relocate guns makes them more interesting. But I do think that there are simply too many weapon options in the game.

And my loathing for the pyro has reached new heights upon encountering the degreaser. If pyro gets the jump on you he needs only touch you with the flame, poof you and you're dead. The pyro is easily the most versatile class in TF2 on both offence and defence. Now all he needs is to be able to rocket jump.

Apparently the tradeoff is being much more vulnerable to explosive damage, which makes it a nonstarter for me.

If you can't tell, I'm smiling on the inside. Ah what the hell, I'm smiling on the outside too

Too bad Fexy can poof damn near anything.

edit: see above

Had some good games and horrible games tonight. Had an awesome round on Badwater with Atomic as my medic, lots of crits and dominations. Good times.

On the other hand, last stage of Dustbowl was a freaking lockdown. Red had 97 for their top scorer, Blu's top scorer was 36 and we never got out of spawn. Good games on the whole, though.

That was awesome, OG and cyrax kept kritzing me and I got 98 points on that first point alone, and 8 dominations =)

Mex is the Mass Murder of Mannes. What have I done!?

Booo. I tried to craft the two crappy Monday Night Combat hats to get a random hat but the game won't let me.

Come on Valve, let me get rid of all these stupid baseball cap hats.
