A serious blow to democracy

As a compromise, perhaps they can rename the city Ft. Wang.

Can't they always insert it later? Or would they have to unveil it first?

whoops, wrong thread.

I lived there for a while, and some people I knew did call it Fort Wang (also sarcastically known as Fort Fun). Historical precedent!

Looks like historical precedent counts for nothing, though. I guess it's a limp argument.

If they're not going to name something after a local legend, they should at least erect something in his honor.

Unfortunately for women the G is silent, but it would have a long A.

It should be their pleasure to do so... The goal should be a happy ending. Residents should demand no more beating around the bush.

This is going to explode in their faces come next election.

This building, does it have golden showers? Another kick in the tax payer's nads!

This whole project sounds like it was run by a government fluffer.

The support staff should not pull out now, for it could make for a terrible mess on the legislative body.

Darn, late to the party again. All the good jokes have been posted.

sigh. I fear there is too vas a deferens between the parties to find common ground on this one.

They'd probably cave in if somebody offered corporate sponsorship for the facility, like, say, Dick's Sporting Goods or Wang Computing.

I think we need to nip this monument in the bud, before it breeds discontent.

The name of that mayor reminded me of that Diablo II expansion pack.

Well, maybe with some time, the new name will scro on tum.... right?

/got nothing

I'm sure you can come up with one if you think long and hard.

The runner-up choice right now is "Thunder Dome".

I'd say /thread if I had such power.

I guess he supported Lyndon B. Johnson.

Edit. spelling is tough

As a native Hoosier, I'm going to have to call senator Dick Luger and have him pressure the Ft. Wayne assembly to bestow Harry Baals's the special attention he never received during his tenure.

I think John "Johnny Appleseed" Chapman would be ashamed to live in a town where he sowed so much seed and still see Harry Baals not get the credit he deserves.

You win. Can you work a Lincoln joke into that too?

Yeah, after Montalban shot his load, I just don't know what else there is to say.

While Lincoln's log cabin is firmly planted in Indiana's southern region, Harry Baals used to swing on the playground across from the Lincoln Museum in Fort Wayne...? No, I can't make it work. Ah well.

I'm sure Ft. Hood was involved in Lincoln's education ... especially after he was married. Does that help?

How did this not make it here yet?

I don't see how his name would be a taint on the city.

I'll have to forward this to my old co worker, Richard Seaman. I'm sure he'll agree that by the time this is over the people who made this decision will have more than egg on their faces.

How long are the townsfolk expected to be left swinging in the breeze until a final decision?

Likely the final blow in a long, distinguished political career.

I'd hate to see such drastic measures as going commando in order to get the proper title erected. It would be such a shame not to erect it with loving hands.
