Official Team Fortress 2 Game Nights (PC)

Yeah, I don't know what was going on in that match pants, I haven't been stabbed so much as a medic in a long, long time. I guess my spider-sense took a vacation that day=P

Mex has lost his mojo! Muhahahaha!

Not sure why I never tried, but logged in on a European server (being in Holland for a few weeks).
Ping time 10ms instead of 100 or higher and I actually noticed I died less. Then again, maybe the level
of players was less as well. Kinda noticed that too

My point is...where is the European Goodjer Server? Someone step up!

Works great, but you have to be willing to accept some minor graphical issues.

Graphical issue, or helpful annotation?

Take your pick - it's not an accident that I only posted the screenshot of myself, though. I didn't want anyone to think I was editorializing.

Yeah, I had other issues to. I would get those error messages on all the pyros but I would also have characters randomly start on fire. They wouldn't be on fire in the game, just appear that way in the demo. It was confusing at first wondering why half my team was on fire before the match started.

Currently downloading the 11 trillion custom maps you guys have running on your public server so I can hop in on the madness.

Hey there BNice - welcome aboard! Mostly, the pub runs default maps. You can automatically download maps when the server switches to one you don't have, but if you want to be super-proactive all the custom maps we have are posted at http://gwj.skulljackpot.com/maps/. Not all of those are currently used, and I should probably do some housekeeping on that server, but if you have all those you shouldn't need to download anything on map changes.

Actually, on the pub we try to mostly stick with the normal maps. There are a few community ones in there, but they are the ones that have been around for awhile. The private is where all the serious crazy maps happen (cough cough ZIG cough).

EDIT: Gah! Tannhaussered!

We don't play like 50% of those maps on the list. I'd suggest just downloading them during map switch (unless you're really afraid of getting in slower than most everyone) as you'll usually only get the ones semi-frequently played.

Good to know that list of maps exists! I have the game set to auto download maps, but for some reason I occasionally get an error saying the download fails. Happened the other night when Frontier came up. I had to go out and try to find the map and manually download it. By the time I figured it out I jumped back into the game just in time for the match to end and we switched to a new map anyways.

I think that came up on the vote last night and I asked the same question.

Also, I was playing on the Reddit server last week and circlejerk came up. That is a stupid map.

I see someone hasn't gotten the "Stack overflow" error when downloading a new map... And then you get kicked from server and get to replay refresh fortress for an hour, cos no one leaves the damn private for ages

I'm not sure why no tags will work, sorry.

Oh yeah, that does occasionally happen with some of the larger maps...

New members cant use tags as a spam prevention step. They'll start to work in a week or so or when you post some more.

Tags not working is spammer prevention. It'll go away over time as you post more. Invite sent!

I see. That's actually a bit of a relief, I thought I was just dumb and couldn't make them work. Thanks for the invite!

Could I get added to the TF2 group also? I'm in the regular GWJ STEAM group, but not the TF2 one.

Invite sent.

Spoiler:

Man, now that everyone's joining up we're gonna need to get another crop of worthwhile pubbies. :)

So can we have a discussion about turning off random crits? The only thing I ever see them bring is frustration. The satisfaction that I get when putting a random crocket into a group is nothing compared to the frustration of getting killed by a heavy across the map in 3 hits.

They can be funny when just messing around but when you're actually trying to play it's just irritating.

Your suggestion has been noted, and filed away in a place where all bad things go, a lock box. Let me issue a warning to anyone crazy enough to try and find it, you may think you know the location of the lock-box. Maybe you do. Or maybe that's a decoy. Or a dummy lock-box. Only the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, myself and Mex are gonna know for sure.

I tend to waver back and forth on the issue, and would like to see some of the arguments on both sides. My question is, what do random crits add to gameplay?

I am pro-random crits. It levels the playing field and sometimes makes for some awesome kills where you feel like a badass. I try not to get too worked up about being killed. It's an FPS, you're going to die a lot.

I like the standard game. I don't want us to be some elitist place where we're so good that crits take away from our awesome skills and stuff. I don't like playing with jerks like that and I don't want us to be those jerks.
