Killzone 3 is a FPS video game that will be released on Feb. 22, 2011 for the Playstation 3.

Here are a trailer and a look at MP bonuses.

Killzone 3 comes in two versions, the standard edition and the $130 Collector's Edition. Two maps (remakes from Killzone 2) will be available on Day One as free pre-order bonuses or as paid DLC on PSN.

The open beta is now available on PSN.

Let the slings and arrows of the haters and their hatred descend--that is, after all, their raison d'etre or Ding an sich as it were--I loved Killzone 2, I will get Killzone 3.

Downloaded and shall be playing shortly.

Killzone 2 had my favorite flamethrower in a game ever. For that reason alone, I am interested.

But really, the multiplayer in this game looks fantastic. The Gametrailers review has me seriously contemplating a purchase. I think I'm gonna hop in that beta.

I tried to play the beta and failed spectacularly. At each point my connection would time out or fail to register completely, often at different stages of the joining process. Not a great first impression of the game's reliability.

I still haven't finished the second one. I always think "I should finally finish that!"

Then I start it, play for maybe fifteen minutes.. and quit. Then the game sits for another few months.

I have no idea why, as it's not really any different than a number of other shooters I've run through. Maybe it's the weird midget perspective or something. I dunno.

I did the same thing a few times before I felt the desire to finish it. Then again, I've had the same issue with Gears of War and CoD:Blops recently. I should probably finish those.

For me, it was a combination of the odd controls and uninteresting story. Things got better once I adapted to the weighty feel of the controls. It just took me a lot longer to adapt than I anticipated.

I played it on a level up from normal and made it to a bridge where there's just tons of spam that you have to cross where the difficulty ramps up tremendously. Couldn't find an adjustment for difficulty mid game. Realized I really did NOT like the gameplay, and quit. Don't know why I haven't sold it yet, other than guilt that I haven't finished it.

I may try to download the beta and see how it plays. To be honest, I think my money's going to go to Homefront and Brink for the first half of the year's new shooters.

If anything would interest me about this game, it would be Move control. I'm not sure it would be optimal, but it seems very interesting to me for some reason.

(long vid:)

Briefly tried out the multiplayer beta. Had problems getting into games but once I did it was quite a bit of fun. Played the attack/defend mode and they do some really cool stuff with mixing in cutscenes using your characters; pretty fun stuff. The controls seemed far better this time around. I think I'd still need to play with the sensitivity a bit but it didn't have the input lag feel from Killzone 2.

At first I wasn't entirely sure on this but I think I may have to pick it up. Really enjoyed Killzone 2 overall. They did some cool stuff with multiplayer and it only looks better this time around (outside of the connection issues which I'm chalking up to beta).

I played about 4 or 5 matches tonight. I couldn't connect to a warzone match (or whatever the multiple game type mode is called), so I was limited to team deathmatch. I'll play some warzone matches over the weekend. I imagine the connection issues will be resolved by then.

The controls retain some of the weighty feel of the 2nd game, but they are much tighter overall. Map layouts seem fairly balanced. The melee kills, while admittedly gimmicky, are satisfying to pull off. The game is absolutely gorgeous. I am definitely enjoying this more than the Crysis 2 beta so far.

I beat Killzone 2 twice, once on the difficulty below "Normal" and then on the difficulty above "Normal" (not sure if they call those "Easy" or "Hard" or not...). I'm very glad I did this, as that last boss battle was a Female Doggo and a half. I tried MANY times even on Easy to beat that last boss and it took me awhile, however when I played through the game on "Hard," I beat it on the first try.

Either way, I've got the game pre-ordered through Amazon and have the Open Beta loaded up, but didn't get a chance to check it out last night. Hopefully this weekend!

I too am considering a Move for this. But the word I saw last night is that Move lets people dominate against standard controller users.

I wasn't a huge fan of the first one, mostly because of the scripting and level design (I have similar problems with the COD campains). From the screenshots the levels do look more varied on this one.

The split-screen support had me interested in this but after seeing how it was implemented I think I will skip. It uses two off-centered squares so you don't get a vertical improvement while still having the severely limited peripheral vision of a vertical split.

I have the 2nd one still wrapped from the $10 Amazon black Friday sale. I guess I should get to that soon huh? Didn't realize this was coming so soon.

Got a PS3 e-mail ad about it though, which has a link to the blog contest.

Play Killzone 3 open beta this weekend (Feb 4-6) for a chance to win 1 of the 1000 Limited Helghast Edition.

So, log on and play the Killzone 3 Multiplayer Open Beta from Friday, February 4th through Sunday, February 6th. We will be randomly selecting 20 participants each day who are playing in the Open Beta and notify winners via the email address associated with each entrant’s PSN account between February 10th, 2011 and February 18th, 2011

Guess I'm going to start downloading and hope I can squeeze in some time tonight.

Only 803MB, not bad.

Tried to play online and was stuck at the connect screen. It was a blast!

Spent the last couple hours since my previous post playing. Played with bots a bit. Then the standard kill each other the most round. Then had a lot more fun with "warzone" I guess it's called? With 7 changing objectives, team that wins the most wins. Pretty cool.

Got a couple guns unlocked as Marksman and got high enough rank for general armor unlock, which should help me live longer I guess.

Guess I really should go back and knock out Killzone 2 before I get to into this.

I got a few rounds in last night, had no problems joining, but it was pretty late in the evening. Screwed around with the bots too. It looked great, and felt pretty great too. The unlocking looks like it should be fun--I like Infiltrator, but I'm terrible with the shotgun. The dynamic mode-switching thing is still awesome, and games would be wise to steal that.

Edit: I forgot about another cool little tweak: what appear to be the single match boost ribbon things. I'm not sure what I did to get Rapid Reload ribbon and Rapid Aim ribbon, but I like the idea. I actually did like the system in 2 where certain actions a certain number of times opened new things, but it did get pretty grindy if it was an action I don't normally do (and I don't think I ever got "Kill 3 guys with the airbot" or whatever it was). The minor, single use boosts coupled with the point unlocks seems like a neat middle-ground.

Yeah I got that rapid reload. I think it was the round where I got "first blood" with a grenade kill and captured the first point on the map as well. But I'm not sure.

Loading up KZ2 for the rest of the day I think I'll have a go at that. Did we ever make a GWJ "clan" in-game for KZ2 or do we want to make one for KZ3? Not sure if beta clans will carryover to the retail or if KZ3 reuses them from KZ2... anyway, just be fun to play with you guys this weekend, free beta is free after all.

We do have a Killzone 2 clan--which never really got used for any particular purpose. I think I might even be 1st officer or something We can certainly do one for K3, but I don't expect Sony to have made any great strides in their social connecting in the intervening years.

I really like Killzone 2 and will be getting this, as well. I just hope the protagonists aren't as actively aggravating this time around - their faces, voices, lines... ugh.

They do need to work on the single player some more, too. The campaign had plenty of badly designed, frustrating sections, even though on the whole it was a huge win for me. I even played through twice.

Well I PMed you on PS3 for an invite, but just noting it here as well.

Might as well try one on KZ3, or see if it got carried over.

I'll try to log into K2 and accept you, Stele.

I might be skipping K3, though. For the second day I tried to log into the MP, and with no success. The beta is really a MP demo, of course, and if they have released a demo that is actually, literally unplayable for me, that's hardly a reason for me to rush to pre-order.

It's just the 2nd day, and it is still a beta, not a demo, despite the polish. I don't think there is much reason to worry about the network stability yet. Give it a few more days. If the problems persist later into the beta, it may be time to worry.

There are 19 reviews published on metacritic; how much more beta testing could they have intended for this point?

And it's not only that I can't join a game. I get strange messages telling me that I'm not logged into the network and that I need to check my internet connection.

I loved Killzone 2. The single player was just ok, but I really got into the multiplayer. I reached max level, before they added three more levels, that is.

I'll be in on day one, and I might give the demo a shot this weekend. I also have a Move laying around that I bought because I was under the mistaken impression that LBP2 had Move controls, so that's an option. I'll report back.

Yeah it's coming out the 22nd. If Glanton can't even join a game that's worrisome.

Got my ass handed to me in some KZ2 play today but of course my guy isn't leveled up, and I got used to the awesome melee kills from Kz3 beta. Oh well. Will make sure to log some more time on the beta tomorrow for a chance to win. Free full game for playing a free beta game, hard to beat.

I watched the video reviews from Gamespot and Gametrailers and spotted Jim Sterling (of Destructoid) in both. I took that to mean that the gaming press was all playing together in a small review event, so it shouldn't be indicative of the beta out now.

Regardless, the issues you're stating don't sound like typical problems I've been seeing, so hopefully that changes for you.

I still haven't gotten to play the beta, but a buddy of mine has been able to get into games. I know he had problems with it yesterday, but was still able to get games going.

I'm kinda curious what the deal is, honestly. Just watching videos, it doesn't appear that the game is drastically different from KZ2 (i.e. the number of players, the map structure, etc.), so I don't see why they can't just get the same server farm up for KZ3 that they have for KZ2. I guess they don't want to spend the extra money on operating costs when the game isn't officially out yet, but still...extra testing doesn't hurt.

Hopefully, Guerrilla just underestimated the interest in the game and the servers are getting hammered because everyone with a PS3 is checking it out.

Kotaku even withheld their review, saying that they had some issues that they felt could be polished in the month or two from review copy to final copy. They only thing they reviewed the other day was the new move control option.

Looks like killzone.com is working with beta stats and stuff now in the my killzone section.
