DC: Universe - Catch All

My first character was named Subject 47. It seemed like a Brainiac kind of thing to wipe the subject's memory and just number him. So my next two were Subject 48 and 49.

I tried to make a Subject 50 - I figured by now it meant people who had seen me out and about would at least know it was the same uncreative guy, right?

But Subject 50 is disallowed for some reason. Hmm.

Subject 50 isn't a number. He's a free man!

Well, he's now called "Fowler". Sigh. I tried a bunch of really cool names but apparently others already thought they were cool.

Thanks for posting all that info and the trailer, Killtrash. Talk about giving me a geek-out overload!

I followed the pre-release hype for a while and then in a moment of weakness bought it (Steam) on release day. I've had minimal time to play - but nearly all my free time has been with this. _Love_ so many things in this game.

Only had time to make 3 characters so far (lots of ideas but need more time, dammit!).

My main is so far: Psy Napse (groan - some first-choice names were taken)

a Batman-mentored hero: Controller/Gadgets/Super-Speed with hand-blasters. Only lvl 19 so far. NathanialG was kind enough to put me in the GWJ Supergroup last night, and I got to have my first non-solo time with one of his alts. Thanks again, Nathanial!

If anyone is looking for mid-level grouping feel free to call.

My others I just started will need some work to see if I'll keep them: Gracillis (acrobat/mental/controller) and Proletariat (tank - flier/ice/two-handed). Happy to join any low-level things with them but I don't really know how to be effective with them yet.

New character tonight. "Classic". She's in black and white.

(Too bad you can't somehow magically turn the lighting effects off for your character. Being black and white is cooler when you aren't black-and-white-in-orange-lighting. Also, you can't change the color of your powers. )

Tip for anyone out there who may be as dumb as I am. Most main quests have 3 or 4 outdoor quests followed by an indoor finale. Make sure you check your gear and make a trip back to the police station for repairs before going into the finale. After getting stomped by Sinestro 6 straight times I noticed a message that said my gear was broken. I don't know exactly how damaged gear works, but I breezed through on my next try with fully repaired equipment.

Hey, I just wanted to bring up this little promotional piece that gets one free gear. Turns out it only need to be done initially to attain a code (or whatever it is on PC).
EDIT: They are trinkets.

I know I probably just haven't dug deep enough but is there any way to find out what some of my powers do? Specifically my illusion form powers. When I chose to have illusion it gave me 3 new abilities. One changes me into a businessman, another turns me into a scientist and the last seems to do absolutely nothing. From the power description I was guessing it was supposed to make me look like whoever I was fighting but no such luck.
Another that confused me was the shapeshifted abilities for the pterosaur. When I change shape it gives me about 4 new abilities or so but I have no clue what they do. I mean I can smack the buttons and one looks like a cone aoe but I kinda' want to know more about what they're supposed to be. Stuns? Power regens? I dunno.

Also, I qeued up last night for a 8v8 match as per an intro quest. I got the little 3 figure icon showing I was qeued up and apparently I stayed qeued up for over an hour. I finally logged out without ever getting a notice for anything. Is there anything you have to do on those or would it have eventually given me a notice to be transported to the instance? I haven't even tried the arena/legends/pvp whatever other options but I'm assuming they work the same way?

Yeah, the lack of ability information bugs me too. I've done a few quests where you get transformed into something else, and suddenly you've got a new ability bar and no idea what any of those buttons do.

I did a Toyman daily yesterday and took me an half hour cause i coulnd't figure out the abilities that they give you. Very frustrating. Seems like the PS3 version is missing half the info you need whether it be info on ablilities, quest objectives, and ui. Hope hot fixes/ patches fix some of that.

It is not the PS3, that's how it is on PC too.

Yes, the UI is horrible and that's the game's biggest flaw imo.

Have you guys tried to hit "P" to open up the Loadout window? I haven't messed too much with classes that have morphing powers yet, so I'm not sure if this will work. I know that I have the Gorilla form on my nature chick and if I open up the Loadout window, I can assign and see all skills for my Gorilla form. I'm not sure if it is the same for the other forms though.

Also, pressing F1, you should see a list of all combos available to your class, in case you didn't know. The information is very limited too and I don't remember if it changed when I was in Gorilla form.

I think I'm gonna respec tonight because my two-handed hammer as a secondary weapon is useless without some way to hot-swap gear. Plus I have some abilities that make no sense (fly up at high angle then swoop down and knock people out?) that sounded cool but don't appear to have any use or way to initiate.

I've tried it and it definitely doesn't work for situations where your powers are temporarily changed by something other than a shapeshifting ability. Specifically, there's a mission where you get turned into one of Circe's pig-men, and another where you turn into a gorilla. In both cases I couldn't find any information on my hotbar abilities or my weapon combos.

That one works differently from how it sounds. It means that if you fly towards the ground at a steep angle, it will knock enemies back from you when you reach the ground. You don't have to use an active ability, just fly straight down at someone. (Or nearly straight down.)

I'm going on Ventrilo. Any level 30s up for a duo or alert or pvp?

I should be level 30 by the time the weekend starts. Anyone want to set up some end-game grouping? And I mean that in the most sexual possible way.

On PS3, on Crisis server.

I'm there for the PS3 endgame stuff. Just learning that content myself. I'll be around friday night, not sure about sat, it depends on how the day goes. Also my PS3 mic should show up from Amazon tomorrow so hopefully that will make alot of duos and raids easier. I'll do what I can to bring the sexy but I make no promises!

Talk to me about costume slots.

Has anyone found a good explanation of what the green icons below your health bar are? Most of them seem to describe temporary buffs, but I'd like to get a better understanding of them.

All of this stuff says one thing to me: "Sony, your tutorial sucks. I mean, sucks really bad. Please teach me how to actually, you know, play the game. Thanks, loyal subscribers."

I have liked playing the game but I still have a bunch of basic gameplay questions like this that really shouldn't be obtuse. But I'm gonna learn, we've got a budget crunch in my house that means I really can't spend money on any other gaming.

Thanks! Gonna give that a shot.

My hammer is still useless however. Don't know what I was thinking. I knew there was no hot-swap.

There are no costume slots, unfortunately, but you can change your outfit and colors anytime you want.

F3 brings up your current status effects. On an Xbox controller, it's one of the D-Pad directions -- I think it's right.

The icons I know (approximately) so far:

Explosion: Damage. Usually from using any power while in the DPS role.
Crosshairs: Weapon damage (precision). Frequently given from specific "buff your attack" powers.
Shield: Defense (defense/toughness). Usually from using any power while in the tank role.
Heart: Regeneration/healing?

If they're in green, they're buffs, if they're red they're debuffs.

There's also a foot icon, which I think just indicates if your travel power is toggled on.

Oh, right. I knew there was something I had seen and was forgetting.

Ding! Level 30 for Tots McGee. What about 8 ET Friday night for a meet-up on PS3?

Not sure if that's a plus or a minus for me. Guess I'd have to check it out myself. Right now I'm playing CO, even resubscribed for a month or so. Once that is done I'll probably hop onto this next. Sounds like it's fun but needs the ol' 3 months to optimize.

Gratz!
