Forget Flowers, Give the Gift of Pile

Pages

It's that time of year. The time when red hearts, flowers and candy dominate store shelves reminding you to think about your loved one. I say skip the flowers and give them the gift of pile. Show them you care by reducing your pile of shame by 1, 2 or maybe 3 games this month.*

* - I will take no responsibility if you follow this "suggestion" and it results in your significant other being disappointed or even pissed.

If you're interested, m0nk3yboy, has the 12 month pile plan thread over here.

A quick reminder, in order to be considered "Pile of Shame" the game needs to be at least three months old. Otherwise, it's just a new game you haven't gotten to playing yet.

Also, if you are curious about some of the previous threads, Pick's of the Pile, etc... Please go here and check out the Google doc I setup.

Let's get on to the games!

This Month's Pick of the Pile is

[b]Bioshock 2

"Set approximately 10 years after the events of the original Bioshock, the halls of Rapture once again echo with sins of the past. Along the Atlantic coastline, a monster has been snatching little girls and bringing them back to the undersea city of Rapture. You are the very first Big Daddy as you travel through the decrepit and beautiful fallen city, chasing an unseen foe in search of answers and your own survival." (Bioshock2.com)

I'm going to tackle Final Fantasy XIII (360) this month, plus at least 5 hours each of Baldur's Gate (PC) and Sacred 2 (360).

Going to take a breather from WoW and complete ME2 on PC this month. I purchased it the first time I saw it discounted on Steam, so quite a while ago. I installed it on Sunday, and have about 5 hours invested thus far.
I have not played a PC game to completion since the DoW II expansion. Wish me luck!

Like Garden Ninja, I'm aiming for FFXII (PS3).

Anything else is bonus...maybe I'll finally beat Super Meat Boy (yeah right).

OK, so, I'm getting a new computer (and my first desktop gaming PC in at least 10 years), so I'm going to make 2011 the year to play all those Steam games I bought!

First up, Dawn of War II and Chaos Rising in anticipation of Retribution.

Deadly Premonition should finish up this month. I'll also carryover Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People, and we'll see if I can finish up the last episode of that before March.

Put me down for Bioshock 2 (PC) as well, sounds like a good idea. Had it on the pile for way too long.

Alright.

It is with a full dose of reality-syrup that I add a game to the pile. I think that my going rate for pile-completion is approaching 0%.

So put me down for Bioshock 2 (360) - I've had a copy lying around my house for months now, and I've just dipped into it yesterday.

I'm in for Gears of War 2 and Ben There, Dan That/Time Gentlemen, Please!

I've been playing Europa Universalis III so I hope to finally finish a Grand Campaign this month.

I also think I need to give my 360 some love, so I'm going to plan to finally play beyond the tutorial in Alan Wake. (And yeah, I know.)

I'll be carrying over Overlord II for the month while also being distracted with the not yet pile worhty and only 1 day old to me, Donkey Kong Country Returns, which I will note has made me not care one bit about Little Big Planet 2, which means that some months in the future I'll probably be declaring that one.

I'll also note that I've recently picked 3 games games via Goozex, but haven't gotten into them to figure out if they're going to placed on top of the pile yet.

EDIT: I will note that I made some real good progress last month on Overlord II. I'm plrobably just over 1/2 done as I picked up the 3 of 4 minion types already.

I rocked my pile last month, but this month will see me playing Dead Space 2 and Magicka, at least for a while.

That said, I'm nearing the end of Dragon Quest IX (NDS), so I'll try to finish that off. My wife and I are mostly through Kirby's Epic Yarn (Wii) which released Oct 17th, which is barely pile worthy, but please add it for me as well.

I can't be the only one reading the title as "...Give the Gift of Pie".

CivCity: Rome

It's so conceptually similar to Caesar IV that it took me a while to be sure I hadn't already played it!

I've had the gift of pile before. Most uncomfortable.

Right then...

I think it's about time I finish up the main quest in Fallout : New Vegas (that's within the pile timeframe now isn't it?) assuming I can put up with the contant CTD's.
I also need to finally have a go at clearing the first Alan Wake DLC pack (the signal?). and possibly the second if I can be bothered downloading it.

I'll see how I go with that and add more later. Been real tempted to give Okami for Wii another whirl.

Fable 3 came out on October 26th - so I am going to make that my February pile game.

Last month was my first ever completely successful month, so I'm hoping to continue along the same path by removing the following games from my pile:

360 - Batman: Arkham Asylum
PC - Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade & Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis

I'm going to go light this month.

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light - I'm a little more than halfway through the map list. Unless it gets really frustrating toward the end, I'll probably try to get all of the objectives in each level after I finish the game.

Super Meat Boy - I'm at the first level boss. I would like to get through all of the levels. Not sure if I'll attempt the dark world stuff. I'll probably leave that for a later date.

Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People - I'm almost done with episode 3. Part of my attempt to finish all of the Telltale games that I bought during the 2009 Christmas sale.

I'm tossing Ratchet & Clank - Tools of Destruction and Dragon Age: Origins up for this month. R&C I've heard is 10 hours or less, and I want to finish DA:O before DA2 lands next month.

Iv'e got 2 that I'm going to knock out this month. Dragon Age: Origins (PC) - I purchased this on release day and never got around to finishing it. Last week I started a new play through and hopefully will have it finished in two or three weeks. My second will be Bioshock 2 (PC) - grabbed this one super cheap on a Steam sale and have never even fired it up.

List should be current. You guys pounced on this month's thread.

I am going to try to take a dent out of the pile with the completion of Lego Batman for the PS2 and Final Fantasy Tactics A2 for the DS. At this point, I have nearly 60 hours into FFTA2 so I must be getting relatively close to the end...maybe? If my ten month old starts sleeping at night, I might be able to chip away some more but I'm going to start small for February. It is a short month after all.

Mass Effect 2 for me this month, and my standard Final Fantasy 13 as my "background-pile" game...something I'll play for an hour here and there to make steady progress, but not for a sustained period. Ultimate goal is to finish FF13 by the end of April.

Carrying over Secret of Monkey Island SE from last month. I'll pick up something else too, later in the month, but I'm not ready to commit yet.

Sign me up for booting up Torchlight (PC) and spending a few hours to finish it, and also add Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence (PS2) to my goals.

Maybe I'll finish at least one of them before Dragon Age 2 drops in early March...

Carrying over Dragon Age: Origins - Ultimate Edition (PC). I'm maybe half way through the content at 43 hours played.

I also plan on finishing Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, as the DLCs were announced to release in February and March. Believe I stopped around the midpoint, a church graveyard I think. I plan on 100% it, but my goal is the story.

Need to steer away from the Fantasy RPG genre a bit....I'm just going to wish I was still playing DA:O.

The most glaring "wait, you never finished that?" in my pile is Half Life, so put me down for that!

wait, you never finished that?

Going to carry over Dragon Age: Origins this month. I might drop in a few XBLA titles for light relief, but I'll add those as I go. No use adding anything else at this stage, given the size of DO:A and available hours this month.

Two words: second playthrough

What do you think I am doing the other 27 days in February?
