Let's buy Edwin a PC before he explodes. It's for the common good.

I'm proud of all of you. I also wanted to note that my birthday is next month, and I too hate things.

High fives all around. Stuff like this is what makes GWJ so awesome. Thanks for taking the lead oilypenguin and getting this done.

Just echoing the Penguin Praise.

Thanks for organising this, taking the time to make a difference, looking into the different options, making your PayPal account available, covering those that wanted to donate, but needed to wait for pay etc.

Don't sell yourself short (although penguins aren't the tallest of birds), that is a GREAT effort, and I'm glad I could be part of it too. Edwin, if you are reading this, I hope this goes a little way to balancing out all those things that were hitting you so hard in the loathe thread.

Maybe we can even find someone to photoshop a laptop onto your wombat avatar, just for sh*ts and giggles.

Once again, thanks Oily for organising this, and thanks to everyone who donated, and made one little Penguin's dream of "buying Edwin a PC before he explodes" a reality.

GWJ FTW.

Damn I am too late to this. Just noticed this thread. But I'll be happy to chip in for a gift card for my main man Edwin. Oily, PM me with particulars, please.

Penguin praise aside (I am pretty awesome), it wasn't even my idea!

Probably the only thing I can possibly help on. I've got spare parts though so just let me know what you need. Seriously. I've gotten rid of a lot of stuff but I still have some stuff I don't want to just "curb-chunk".

I'd be willing to donate my EVGA P55 + i5 750 combo when I do my sandy bridge rebuild. I have a spare case too. If I can afford the shipping when the time comes, I'll mount the motherboard in my Stacker RC-830 and ship it to you with the processor still mounted, sans cooler.

What we did was awesome but we were awesome together. In fact, we wouldn't have gotten this far if it wasn't for LiquidMantis' idea and Thin_J's generosity. I'm sure someone else would have put a thread up, I just happened to be first on the scene.

Regardless, butt pats all around.

WOW!!! That is one nice laptop. I have the XPS 16 and love it.

Great job everyone.

Oily once again thanks for the administrative duties, you damn filthy_AWESOME-enablird! /extra special butt pat

Payroll got done a day early this week, so I'll be putting in my donation tomorrow :D

Yup, my paycheck got here at last so I can finally contribute. I really wish my company would get with the times (well 1990) and give us direct deposit already.

No matter what you say, thanks to the Oily one for coordinating this and congrats to the GWJ community for making it happen.

That is one heckuva laptop. Nice work Goodjers, and of course special butt-pats for oily.

I haven't been on the forums since my post in the loathe thread and I haven't read a post in this thread. I just skipped to the end here to post so I'm not entirely sure what's going on. It's been a busy few days for us here since we found bed bugs in our apartment and clover is out of town for work. I'm here washing absolutely everything we own. I also found out my mom has new/spread cancer in her jaw, so thats like the 5th outbreak that she has found in the past three months of so.

I really don't deserve this. I just wanted to vent as I keep to myself and bottle things up and the stress of this and work has made me physically ill in the mornings upon arriving to work. Thank you all. I really don't deserve your kindness but thank you from the very bottom of my heart. I don't know how I can ever thank you, but I will.

Thank you.

Edwin,

I hope things go better for you! This has all been fun for us, and I hope it helps out just a little bit.

Edwin, you are a large and awesome person. I know this, I've seen you up close. If there's anyone, anywhere, who deserves a bit of kindness from a semi-anonymous group of folks, it's you. Enjoy it when it gets there.

Gah, I guess I missed the boat. Paypal has been telling me for the last 10 days that I need to update my password to use it and no matter how many times I do, nothing doing.

Also, this is awesome. I'm glad that I'm a part of a community full of generous and resourceful people like you guys.

What tuffalobuffalo and AnimeJ said +1.

Edwin, you were probably one of the most charming and nice fellows I've ever met off the internet, and while I didn't make a donation in time to make your pretty computer appear I hope my tax return makes it back to me in time so i can throw some money on your amazon card.

Its always wonderful to see a community like this get together

Man, I just happened upon this thread.. This MUST be the internet community with the highest percentage of 'good dudes' ever. Good luck with the PC!

This needs to go into the Goodjer Commandments as a testament to how awesome this group of people are.

OP, thank you for doing this. Edwin, we hope this helps you dissipate some of the stress and remember you've got people behind you who care, even if you don't know all of them that well. We can do a lot together that we can't do separately. Please accept it in the spirit it was offered.

Also, best wishes to your Mom.

It just occurred to me that if he's going to be using this machine regularly, especially for gaming sessions of any length, it may be worth investing in an external laptop cooler.

I do not know much about such products but if people agree that this is a good idea I will fund one in full (oily since you have his mailing info I can paypal you the amount of whatever people think is appropriate so you can order it).

I've used external laptop coolers for years and they definitely extend the life of the machine. The one I bought several years ago was somewhere around $15 if I remember correctly and plugged into a usb port for power.

That would be awesome but I don't want to micromanage what he does with the money we donate. I'm pretty sold on just going with the gift card idea.

That said, I'm just one voice among many. If there's consensus that getting him a cooler is a good idea, I'll order something.

I disagree, I don't think we should add this to the commandments. Remember, we're doing this to help out a friend going through rough times. Those rough times would be immortalized along with what we did. Plus, I think the deed itself stands on its own. I also think that, as a community of adults, we should pull together and do more things like this if we're in a position to.

But again, that's just my two cents. If you guys want to add it, you won't hear a further peep out of me on the topic.

Now I feel like a jackass and change my mind. I guess I didn't quite think that through. I say let the thread go the way of the dodo when the deed is over.

Fixed that for you both

Regardless of the future of this thread, I'm proud to have played my own, small part in it.

I'm also proud to be a goodjer, but that's not new.

Enjoy it Edwin, you have a lot of seniority here at the company and everyone thought you deserved a nice bonus.

Edwin, I honestly cannot think of anyone who deserves it more than you do right now. I hope that it alleviates some of the stress from your life.
I feel bad that I couldn't donate towards this cause, but I'm not against buying you a game in the near future.

While wiping off a tear of joy, I thought of that one thread here at GWJ, and though: could we use a similar approach? I mean, let's all pitch in and organize a sexual experience or two for boogle. Who's with me?

I don't think we're offering the kind of sexual experience boogle is seeking.

I think in the end... every thread is going to go back to Boogle getting laid.

Cheeto's Law: "As a Gamers With Jobs thread grows longer, the probability of the discussion circling around to boogle's lack of sexual activity approaches 1."
