Assassin's Creed 2 Catch-All

The Leonardo bro hug requires holding the button, but not so long that it becomes uncomfortable... or does it?

Not Cool: Not hugging Leonardo.
Cool: Hugging Leonardo.
Cooler: Hugging Leonardo so long he becomes very uncomfortable and never wants to hug you again ever.
Coolest: Telling Leonardo he smells nice.

Reminds me of IT discussing Heavy Rain. Leonardo Bro Hug would be a perfect way to exploit that forward-backward animations.

The tap/hold on Y and B get me sometimes. And the pickpocket thing.

I avoid that by only pushing forward on the left stick to roll with the Pope.

Leonarbros before Leonarhos.

Half the time on the QTEs, I'm ten feet from my controller, rinsing something in the sink or grabbing a glass. No Leo love for me.

I must keep an eye out for the Leonardo hug opportunity when I go back to AC2. There should be more 'hug a historical figure' game play in games.

I'm playing Splinter Cell at the moment and Sam Fisher doesn't do hugging... or at least he doesn't do hugs where both parties are alive, conscious and relatively bruise free at the end of it.

I didn't think Ezio did, either.

There also appears to be a lot of Ezio x Leonardo slash fiction out there.

Hey, I just realized Ezio gives Leonardo an actual hug, not a bro hug. In a bro hug, you pat your buddy's back three times: "I'm - not - gay." That was a real hug.

I wager that explains Ezio's amped up sexuality in AC2 and ACB. It's unusual to have a sexually active male character in an action game, so I think the "lady's man" thing is deliberate on the developer's part as a front for Ezio to hide his homosexuality, which he probably isn't even aware of even when it betrays itself like his hug with Leonardo. His relationship with Caterina is an obvious political and strategic alliance, otherwise it could be as a temporary as all of his other one-night stands and flirtations. Then, in the most bold subversion of the game, while Ezio has direct access to prostitutes—the easiest and oldest way for the hetero male to slake his libido—the player cannot hire them for sex. They have a different use for Ezio, and sex doesn't even occur to him. Whether Ezio is a closeted homosexual, in denial, or simply unaware, I can't say (haven't finished ACB yet).

Come on, that's the least preposterous conspiracy theory in the games.

I would buy that he's asexual, and that his entire sexuality is a performance he's learned to help him fit in.

Is that all? I have memories of some... more things.

Well, there's this...

Spoiler:

If you do any of the optional Christina missions, I think they send a clear message that Ezio sincerely loved her, but his calling as an Assassin tore them apart; he cannot have a "normal" relationship because of the danger and time commitment.

I suppose it is possible he might also be into dudes on some level, but we don't get so clear an indication.

There is the whole "plunging his dagger into other men over... and over... and over..." thing...

Yes! Thanks for mentioning that. My tongue-in-cheek analysis of Ezio half-convinced me, and I started to wonder if he's so confused by his homosexuality that he can only confront it by violently penetrating other men with his hidden blade (he's never compelled to assassinate women, is he?), a possible result of his self-denial or self-hatred. Then after realizing his sexuality, he must immediately hide from it, either by literally blending in with other people, or even more comical and extreme, hiding in hay bales or closets.

Look, I'm not saying a homosexual reading of Assassin's Creed is right, but it sure ain't been wrong so far.

Going by what Ezio wears, he's not very good at hiding it.

...

But that's not Ezio, that's Altair.

And Wenworth Miller has someone holding hand on his head.

World of slashfic is full of mystery.

So I picked this up from Amazon over the holiday and I love and hate it. The game is beautiful, being Italian-American, I naturally love the setting and the characters, and the story is great. The only serious problem I have is with the sound. Apparently I'm one of those lucky people who has sound and dialogue randomly dropping out during the game. Meanwhile, my PC more than fulfills the recommended specs.

Questions:
1. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so how did they fix it?
2. I'm considering picking up the Steam version of the game. Is it possible this could be an Amazon-specific problem?

Do you have surround sound on when only playing on stereo?

I don't believe so. I've tried changing all of the sound settings on Windows 7 (stereo, 2 speakers, 4, 5.1, 7.1) and it still goes in and out.

Gee, I've got no problems on the 360.

I've got one last Venice mission left. Coming in to the home stretch. Then I can move on to AssBros.

I'm really enjoying this game. I'm glad they made the Free Running aspect of this game so straight forward where it's more about being able to turn in the right direction instead of having to 1 jump button, 1 climb button and another for the special move. That's made all of that smoother and more enjoyable, like you're gliding instead of platforming.

I had a hard time remembering not to hold down all of those buttons.

I also felt that, especially in the later tombs, a lot of the jumping was not as well polished as the rest of the game. Not terrible, but certainly more frustrating than it had to be.

I had an fantastic 'endless' roof top chase last night. I missed catching a pickpocket in the early stages and, after a few gable related screw ups, he got way out ahead of me. Within moments several guards were also chasing him and were hopping along the roof tops in front of me. I switched to my mace and tried to clobbered the odd one as I raced past them, while trying not to lose my own momentum. At one point got right up on the guys heels but miss snagging him as he jumped up to a new level or across to another roof. After running in, around and over a market, where he opened up some distance again, I dropped off a roof at the wrong moment and couldn't see a quick way back up. I tried to follow at street level but the guys icon made it to the edge of my mini-map and eventually disappeared.

I resigned myself to having lost the bugger and, after checking my map, walked/jogged along the street towards my next chosen objective. Just as I arrived at an intersection the pickpocket came sprinting around the corner. He stopped dead when he saw me. Now, I realise this was very possibly a completely different, procedurally generated guy but I chose to believe it was the very same one (he certainly looked identical to the last guy :P) and, as if to prove it, he shouted, "Aggh! Just my luck!" turned on his heels and sprinted off the other way. With an overwhelming desire to catch the guy this time I was all fingers and thumbs on the controller, which translated into Ezio fluffing jumps and dropping down to hang from roof tops only to pull himself slowly back up again. I had to force myself to calm down and think, 'if I catch him, I catch him. No big deal.' Fortunately, as I got my act together, the pick pocket looped back around and dropped to street level with a guard in pursuit. I dropped down to join them and all three of us raced to a ladder on the other side of the street. The pick pocket started up the ladder but the guard knocked him off, falling himself in the process. I swung my mace at the thief. It missed him but it hit the guard full in the face knocking him unconscious/killing him out right. Another swing and I was rewarded with a meaty impact on the theif's head bending him over double. With the mace wielder's equivalent of an upper cut I sent the guy flying backwards to land sprawled in the street, presumably dead.

Never have I derived such satisfaction from beating a petty criminal to death with a heavy iron mace.
