Welcome to Gamers With Jobs Radio, the video gaming podcast for people who hate podcasts. This week, Russ sits down for a chat about CES 2006 and more with Tom Merritt, an editor and columnist at CNET.com, and a former Executive Producer at TechTV. Shawn shares the dirty details from a little hands-on time with the Rise of Legends Press Beta. We'll also take a look at the Nightwatch demo and the game rental service GamezNFlix. Plus, prepare yourself for a slew of new music as GWJ Radio officially launches the New Music Program, bringing fresh, new music every week from new artists right to your ... pod. This week, we're featuring music from DJ Drunken Master. Crank it up, it only hurts for a minute.

Tom Merritt hosts the daily podcast Buzz Out Loud for CNET, and has his blog and about a thousand other things at suBBrilliant.com.

Sweet, a new episode! I typically listen to GWJ radio as I package up ebay sales and I just finished the last episode, but have several more packages to go. But Episode 15 comes to my rescue!

I love love LOVE the plans and integration of music into the program.

For the record, everytime I hear the GWJ Radio theme my foot starts just tapping away happily, and this from a foot not usually known for jovial cavorting.

Another great interview guys. Glad to hear there will be some original music used during the programing, not that I didn't enjoy what was played before, it's just nice to showcase good new talent when you can.

Long time Reader, first time listener. I like it.

I am suprsingly good at listening to talking and still doing my own thing. That was the largest problem I had in the past, worries about listening to talking requires more brain than background music to browsing.

Listening to it as I'm typing, but wanting to know if you guys could throw up a little piece on the GWJ Radio page on what's your hardware/software set up...? I'm interested to see what you guys are packing in there.

EDIT: Fletcher said "frak." He's a Cylon.

What codec are you using to compress the mp3's? It works fine with winamp on my desktop, but when I transfer it over to my Zen touch, the voices sound slowed down and distorted as if you are hearing them underwater.

Since you guys are in such a new site creating mood lately, when can we expect www.gamerswithfalafel.com?

We're still doing cost/benefit analysis on the feasibility of that venture. No sooner than Fall, I'd say.

I'll try to work something up on that soon. Look for it at insomniacorp.com later this week.

It's the algorithm that the software uses to encode the mp3. You're probably just using Acid (or whatever DAW software you're using) to render to mp3 using some default codec...if they even let you choose a codec. Might be worthwhile to render to wav and then use freeware like CDEX to encode to mp3 using the LAME codec, which seems to be the standard these days.

Great show, btw.

Just to note on the show... Xbox 360 has an JRPG called [eM] -eNCHANT arM- which came out last week...! From what I've seen is pretty standard JRPG nothing brand new... but that didn't bother anyone before.

By the way Good show guys!

I want gamerswithjobswithoutpants.com first. While falafel is delicious, we need to keep our priorities straight.

Email me if you want to talk about it.

Do you have enough tears and money and donuts?

I'm kidding, of course. Actually, your guess is correct. I'm using the MP3 plug-in for Acid, but I have no idea which codec it uses or if I can change it. I'll look into it. If it adds any more than five minutes to my production time, though, it's coming out of your check

I believe you mentioned you can use it one-handed. I see great market appeal in that regard.

I recently had issues with Gamefly "not receiving" my returned games - 4 titles in a row. So they closed my account and banned my ass. I sent them a colorful email and moved on.

Here's where I'm at now renting my 360 games. Quick turnaround - and nice customer service.

So far so good.
