iPad Games (and Apps) Catch All

AppAdvice.com is a good website, and has iPad and iPhone apps. The iPhone version and the website have excellent top rank lists for categories. Appsforipad.net is another good one. the iPad app store has the best of 2010 lists at the moment.

As for offline reading, instapaper is a good place to start. Set up a bookmark in safari, hit it for the page you like, it will sync to the web service and the app.

Reeder is the best rss and google reader app in many ways, but Flipboard turns your feed into a very impressive magazine format. Both are limited in their offline capability, though. Pulse has the same issues.

If you have an iPhone, jailbreak it, get miwi, and use that to get online. That gets me the best results. Offline readers are a great idea, but practically, none of them have worked too well, and take a lot of prep to make them effective.

Yeah, but Read It Later works in exactly the same fashion. I was thinking more along the lines of saving whole blogs or stuff like lesswrong sequences where you have dozens of items for reading later. But I guess that I might as well try to come up with way of downloading it all on my PC and just upload it as pdf, html or whatever.

2. Offline reading: are there any apps that can sync with google reader and download stuff for offline reading? I already use Read It Later, but I guess it's better suited for single items and to download something I have to go through my Reader and mark every interesting item.
(btw: Do things like Flipboard download items for offline reading?)

Reeder is nice.

Reeder is indeed awesome. Reeder and the official Twitter app increased my iPad usage 5-fold when I installed them a few months back.

World of Goo is the perfect freaking iPad game. I have it on the wii, but this game just feels right on the iPad. Get this game.

Reeder or Flipboard combined with Instapaper makes pure yumminess.

I'd say the the same thing for Plants vs. Zombies. I have it on the Mac and 360, but it feels like the iPad was created just for this game.

Definitely, but PopCap is not in the financially poor position that 2D Boy is, and it would be a shame that the makers of World of Goo went under.

Damn...I was going to wait for World of Goo to drop in price, but in the spirit of the season - purchased.

Sadly, I bought world of goo for one cent back when they had a sale. I guess I should grab the iPad version to make up for my cheapness. But if they want me to name my own price, I thought one cent seemed great.

My brother and I teamed up to buy our parents an iPad for Christmas. I felt a little like a tool, though, as I'm also expecting the new model to drop sometime in the next 4-5 months. Ah well. They really seemed to enjoy it, though, so I guess that's all that matters.

I got the Telltale Sam & Max "The Penal Zone" game, but it's pretty bad, it's too choppy, some parts of the game just freeze, like the ipad can't handle the graphics.

Also I'm not getting any of the story, I think I must have bought like the 3rd chapter in the story or something because all I know is that Sam is the inspector and Max is like the crazy sidekick, but here he has psychic powers that were given to him and they're on a spaceship and there's a girl with a cellphone, and, and, I don't know what the hell is going on =(

Looks like it's a great game on the PC and I might check it out but on the ipad it's just not ready, and it doesn't feel like a good place to start...

So I got my iPad today...

Aweditorium rocks. Show it to anyone who starts moaning about iPad.

reeder is God! especially with its inclusion of readability (the R in the top right corner). It will fetch the rest of an article that some blogs save for those who click through to the actual site.

SpyNavy's must have apps: no order
Pocket Informant
eWallet
GoodReader
Reeder or Newsrack
Infinity Blade
Plants v. Zombies
Kindle Reader
Comixology (has introduced me to the world of comics)
Sky fire web browser
ESPN SportsCenter
Sportstap
Twitter
HanDbase
Netflix
AppAdvice
Dungeon Hunter 1&2
Puzzle Quest 2

Do yourself a favor and buy Reckless Racing for a buck.

Also got battle for wesnoth for a buck. Haven't tried it yet.

I'm yet to give Reeder a shot, so far it's been the Feed. Only thing that it misses is Read It Later support but there's always a way around these things (you can mail link to [email protected] and that's it). Other than that it's a great River Of News-style, distraction-free reader.

I'm still half waiting for Google to roll out iPad version of Reader, something between desktop and mobile. Desktop version works well on iPad but I'd expect it to be much smoother.

Battle for wesnoth is unbelievably hard on normal difficulty. Good tactical strategy game for a dollar but I have to put it down or throw the iPad across the room.

There are lesser difficulty levels, but I refuse to submit.

It's been a long time since I played it (on PC), but unless the game has changed a lot, the best tip that I can offer is that you really need to work on levelling up your troops. Especially the ones who can become healers.

Recruits are only good for cannon fodder and (if they're lucky) softening up enemies so that the handful of units that you're trying to build up can land the killing blow and get the XP.

Yes, I am getting the feeling that meat shields are needed. Pretty cool game. I think I am becoming primarily an iOS gamer.

Damn it I paid 6 bucks for that

The 5 minutes I played it looked like a great game, I can see why it was popular back then. Looks pretty too.

It's one of the games that I've played couple of hours on iPhone. They should come with option to skip to any chapter. I don't want to replay four hours of game just because I've decided to play on different platform.
(Same applies to Monkey Island SE)

Yeah, it'd be awesome if Apple synced your save games through iTunes. I have three iOS devices at the moment, and it sucks when I want to play a game and I don't have the iPad or iPod handy, and I started on one of those.

Going back to topic of rss clients... Reeder. Yeah, it's awesome. Touch interface works soooo well and offline syncing works like charm.

Battle for Wesnoth update...

I learned that the 'normal difficulty' for the iPad corresponds to 'hard difficulty' on the PC for the South gates campaign.

So I put it on easy and steam rolled it. I will up a notch and see if I can hang.

Very nice game. Makes me want to see Panzer General or TacOps or Close Combat.

Anybody using VNC/remote desktop on iPad? Is there a big difference in speed between various apps?

I LIVE on LogMeIn Ignition. There's almost no comparison in terms of ease of use and speed. Not free though.
