DC: Universe - Catch All

I'm having fun on the PS3 so far, kinda wierd not having a keyboard for chat, I will have to pick up a wireless keyboard over the weekend I think. Million dollar question is there going to be a GWJ legue on the PS3? Would be fun to group up on there. Currently I'm on the redemption server with a toon called Dr Professor, but i have no problem making new toons. The character creation could be a game by itself almost. Lets form up PS3 people!

Server: Character: Alignment: Role
Crisis: Eon Venefi: Hero: Healer
Justice: Jonny Ablaze: Hero: Tank (...the name Ignition was taken :()
No Man's Land: Retronaut: Villain: Controller
No Man's Land: Lag Seeing [I hope, haven't made him yet]: Hero: Whatever ice powers get me
[Anything I add is going to be edited into this post, as I don't want to keep re-posting new data]

All above characters are below level 10 at the moment (9,7,8,&0 respectively), I will be primarily focusing on Jonny Ablaze and the ice hero in the coming days. I know CptGlanton is on the No Man's Land server as a hero, perhaps we can form up there.

EDIT: And since I'm not familiar with MMOs, I'm not really sure what that $15 gets me. Will I still need to spend dollars on DLC? That kind of stuff.

I have a feeling that this article might help.

I think I'm going to bring up an idea to the DCUO forums, although contacting Sony directly would probably be more successful... Anyway, here is my idea: Digital Trading cards. A means in which players can get their heroes or villains information out to friends or on forums to fill roles in a raiding party or the like. Included would be an recent (updating?) image of the hero/villain and information regarding server location, current level, current role, power, and weapon.
What do you, the elite GWJ forum people think of this idea? What would you recommend I change or add before submitting?

Ding 30!

What's the level cap?

Level cap is 30.

My info:
PSN ID: CaptainGlanton
In-Game: Judge Holden
Server: No Man's Land
Hero
Mentor: Supes
I'm a Tank with Ice
Level 11 or 12 right now, I'll play a fair bit more this weekend

I still really like it. I picked Superman for my mentor because I picked metahuman for my class, but last night I started doing missions in Gotham and I really enjoy the setting. I did run into the worst issue of ganking/PvP-ing/etc. there, with some villains doing villain-y stuff in the area I needed to hit for some missions, but it was nothing insurmountable. Right now, I still like it enough that I can be persuaded to run a second character for the purposes of our group here, although I don't have the hours to get two characters leveled quickly, or to *gasp* hit 30 in the first week.

I should note, it only took me about 20 hours to hit 30, and I certainly wasn't racing to level cap. I spent time exploring and doing Booster Gold missions and such. I did do a good number of alerts and those bounty missions for major villains -- maybe those were all great XP. I didn't really pay attention.

Anyway, now I'll find out if the end game is good like WoW or if it's like COH where you basically reroll once you hit level cap.

I can't bring myself to spend 50 bucks on this yet...anyone got a 10-day key to let me preview the content?

I was wondering if they had a 10day trial like WoW. I'm in the same boat, if so let me know as well.

I'm really curious about this game on the PS3.

I've never played an MMO and I'm nervous about any gaming commitment on the PS3, especially one that comes with a monthly fee. But creating and being a super hero/villain is much too enticing to ignore. I fired up The Sims 3 last night to get my character creation fix (and that's about the only game I play on the PC).

I suppose I'm here to follow the thread and either be enabled, turned off, or to live vicariously through your posts.

I'm in almost the exact same boat. I've never played an MMO before, but I'm a comic geek from way back. I've been thinking about this game recently, wondering if I should pick it up... and you just reminded me of the monthly fee tacked onto the initial $60 price tag.

I know this is old hat for MMO players, but as a 100% console guy, I just can't see paying this steep of a fee without any kind of discount on the original software. I've got LBP2 coming my way this month, so I guess I can hold off for a while. Still, I'm definitely enticed.

I'm really thinking of starting a new character (villain) on a PvE server; getting tired of getting attacked by wandering guys 8 levels above me. Who here is on a PvE server on PS3?

So boring saturday night i think im going to run out to GS in a few. Tell me where you end up Glanton. Ill roll something tonight.

As far as I know, there is no trial yet.

There is something in my collectors that seems to be a 10 day trial, but its PS3 so I'm not sure how that would work since you would still need the disc.

Glanton, I have a buddy on crisis so I'm going to roll on there for tonight just to get a feel for what is goin on.

I might be coming home with a PS3 copy tonight. Damn you, Glanton!

Downloading now. Halfway there, so if you do go pick it up prepare for a large DL.

There is an 11GB "download" which is data from the disc to the HDD, then a 2gb patch, just so you know what to expect.

Rolling a villain on crisis right now. Name forthcoming. I'm hoping for Tots McGee.

Tots is up and running. A staff-using mentalist under the Joker.

Ernie McCracken, Villain, Ice Power, Joker Mentor, Dual Weild.

I am really enjoying the game. The story lines are a lot of fun even if you aren't familiar, in detail, with DC lore and the associated comics. I never read many comics, but loved any movie with superheroes etc... and this game makes you feel like you are playing inside an action filled comic. Playing with combos is a lot of fun and the bits of lore and other discoverables lying about adds a ton of atmosphere. The achievement system adds to the game and I am still irked with the one death I have costing me an achievement :). I wish the interface was a bit better and the chat capability is abysmal, but beyond that the game does what it says. You are in your own personal comic book. The level cap is low, in comparison, to other MMOs, but their obviously is a wealth of expansion material within the DC lore.

I'm having a lot of fun, too. This game is a love-letter to comic fans in general and DC fans specifically. I was never into DC much outside of the Bruce Timm cartoons, but I've been thoroughly engaged by the story and settings. Using a lot of the same voice actors, like Mark Hamill, Kevin Conroy, and whoever plays Harley Quinn, really sells the game, just like it did in Batman: Arkham Asylum.

The game play is a lot of fun. I'm especially impressed at how the characters are powerful while also playing a somewhat defined role in a group to give group play some tactical feel. Seems like COH went one way and CO took a hard turn to the other extreme, so it's cool to see a superhero MMO that lets you be both a powerful superhero capable of soloing and a vital part of a team's synergy. And even though there's no crafting, with the races and raids and clues there's plenty to do. The alerts are my favorite part so far -- I've spent most of my time either in an alert or queued for one.

The level cap is low, but there's a lot to do at 30 so I'm guessing they want you to hit level cap fast and then play the end game. This isn't an MMO built around a leveling treadmill, which works for me.

I should note, it only took me about 20 hours to hit 30, and I certainly wasn't racing to level cap.

This is what worries me most. I like complicated games with effort required to level, usually. That sounds a bit fast. Actually, it sounds *really* fast.

Still, sounds like fun.

I picked this up on a whim and I've also been enjoying it. There are some aspects to the interface I don't love (oh I crave a simple pull-up map with the 360 controller) but overall very good. Performance has been good as well.

What it sounds to me is that SOE didnt put out the effort to make a good amount of game content for leveling, instead they allow your character to cruise through to the cap. From what i read so far on this game is that a good 80, maybe even 90% of the game is considered end game content, so after the cap content.

Imo. i think SOE basically put out a easy made cookie cutter mmo, selling the brand to get people to play. Unfortunatly with SOE's history i cant bring myself to buying into this one. The crap that they've done in the past is too much to bare.

On a side note... I'd probably buy into planetside 2 when it comes out just because i think the game might outweight the bad. But not this game.

I had a lot of fun in the beta (though I didn't get to play with much of the end level content because the population was low, and I got distracted by other games), and I don't think it was very cookie cutter at all. And the handling of the brand is fantastic. It didn't take too long to reach the level cap, but it was a lot of fun getting there, and the end-level content I did play was similarly fun. If you're even slightly interested in this, but SOE's past history is the only thing keeping you from trying this game, you should definitely give it a shot.

Well you are pretty much wrong in just about your whole post. It takes a lot of effort to put the nuances into a game like they have. There are some phenomenal ideas like the style function and the cut scenes that put this game far beyond a skinning of random mmo with super hero stuff. If you put in a dedicated effort I have no doubt you could get to thirty in a couple of days, but there is a ton of content there as well as in the way up the tree. This really is a love song to comic book fans as well as a game with a unique niche to fill. I'd suggest playing the game prior to making a series of assumptive judgements without any basis on experience, fact, or quantitative data.

I'm not a MMO player, but you guys are really making me want to play this. I'm going to try to hold out for a free trial.

When discussing content or lack thereof Its worth mentioning that DCUO is alt friendly as well. You could level to 30 just staying in Metropolis or Gotham without visiting the other city, not to mention opposite faction content.

The alts are killing me haven't even tried the villains yet.

Started off in Gotham finished out the initial quests there and headed over to metropolis. Love ambush bug by the way.

Couple questions for you guys:

One - Is it even possible to delete missions? I'm getting irritated that I have a bunch of PvP stuff clogging up my mission queue when I have no intention of doing PvP.

Two - Do the alerts work like that tool they came up with in WoW where you line up and then end up in a group with some people? I guess I could try that but I don't know how well I'd do.

Edit - Three - does anybody know of a wiki or some other type of site like this that is growing up around DCUO?

Four - This isn't a question but I am still shocked by how much I love this game. Over halfway to the level cap and I haven't had to backtrack at all yet.

One -- I don't know about this one, sorry.

Two - I'm not familiar with how WoW does it now, but it sounds the same. You join a queue and when it's ready you're teleported to the instance. The sub-30 ones are all 4-man "raids" (outdoor dungeons, basically, with a story that moves you from A to B and so on until the end). I haven't tried the level 30 stuff, which I think is 8-man. Once you're done, you're teleported back. Don't worry about playing your role really well. In the lower ones, it doesn't matter much what you do, they're pretty easy. Teams don't even need to stick together much other than the boss fights for the first few. Some of the later ones are tough though and you need to start playing your role. If you're interested, just jump in and try it. They're very well crafted and a lot of fun.

Three -- There's one here -- http://dcuniverseonline.wikia.com/wi... -- although I haven't used it much. Maybe there's a better one somewhere else.

Four -- Yeah, me too. I'm in total doe-eyed puppy dog love with this game. It's easily my favorite MMO of the last 5 years, and it really wasn't even on my radar until a few months ago when I got into beta.
