Hunted: The Demon's Forge - Bethesda's new ARPG

http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2...

The vibe I'm getting from the article is this is their take on Diablo, although without the isometric perspective. Coming to PS3, X360 and PC.
-2 player online co-op.
-One melee character, one ranged.
-Instead of a 'traditional' large sprawling deep RPG that bethesda are mainly for, this seems a compact short-ish RPG. I'd guess that Todd Howard is still working on another big RPG separately though.

Can you shape the demon's souls on the demon's forge?

Silly me, I got all excited and clicked the link looking for a release date, momentarily forgetting it was a Bethesda game...

Let's hope it doesn't suck. I love Bethesda, but I get the impression that they are a one-trick pony. (One of my favorite tricks ever, though).

Apparently it is being developed by inXile Entertainment (Brian Fargo's shop) for Bethesda. While the new Bard's Tale game wasn't perfect I still enjoyed it quite a bit and have been waiting to see what else inXile has been working on. Sounds like it could be a lot of fun!

The songs and the presentation of the Bard's Tale were awesome. I can still hear some of those songs in my head.

The gameplay was utter sh*te. They give you a ranged option but the camera was so close that enemies were in melee range by the time you saw them. The hit detection was wonky and the difficulty curve was all over the place. It was a fun game but definately had some mechanical problems.

Hopefully they learned from the experience because I love ARPGs but those were some pretty fundamental errors they made in the Bard's Tale game.

AHAH!! The A in ARPG stands for action! Got it.

I'll keep an eye on it for sure. WET didn't sound like something I'd enjoy, but this is much more up my alley.

I was wondering about that.

It's inXile's new RPG, Bethesda is just the publisher.

It should be interesting to see how this turns out as we get closer to release (May as of now, I believe). For now, I'm tagging this thread and posting up their latest trailer:

I'm interested.

Tagging thread...

That trailer looks awesome.

Tagging.

Gonna keep my eyes on this one. I've developed quite the taste for ARPGs.

HAHA did the exact same thing =D

Whoa! How did i miss this little ditty the first time around?!

Colour me interested. If they could strike the right tone between Diablo and an action slasher like Demon Stone then i think it'd be a great game!

The game looked good when I last saw it, but that trailer didn't do anything for me. It was just flavor, no gameplay.

Kind of interested, but I fear it may be too simple. If it might scratch my co-op dungeon dwelling, stat boosting itch, welcome.

Whatever happened to trailers showing actual gameplay footage?

They ditched those the same year they said PC gaming was dying.

I think there's some about, I wouldn't know where to find them apart from searching on youtube. I guess the death of gameplay videos is linked to marketing discovering they don't need them, they just need some flashy trailer that looks impressive, the trend will change just as soon as it that stops selling games, which is to say not any time soon.

The press have been describing it as 'Gears of Warcraft':

Interesting that 'Gears' is the go-to description for anything 3rd person, although there is shooting to be done in Hunted, and 'Warcraft' for anything RPG, even though it started as an RTS. I find it surprising that the speciality press have such a limited knowledge of their area of speciality that they can't describe it any other way, or it could just be marketing again trying to attach their game to other big names.

I've had my eye on this one for a minute now. It's quite frustrating however because there seems to be a decent amount of marketing - even a contest that's been going on for a while - and still no definite release date. 'Spring 2011'.

The press have been describing it as 'Gears of Warcraft':

This footage is clearly showing an unfinished product, but at least you get an idea of the direction of the overall game.

P.S. - just watching this again, they are definitely pushing the co-op experience on this one.

Well even the developer goes along with it in that video I posted. And it does bear a lot of similarities outside of the use of UE3. And that description is not just G4 in that video, it's been pretty much across the board from all the press that has seen/played demos at conventions all last year.

My thoughts exactly. That trailer was incredibly dull.

However, I'm slightly interested based on that unpolished gameplay demo.

Soooo... this thing dropped today but I haven't seen any reviews yet and no one seems to be talking about it. Not a good sign, or am I just impatient?

No, there's been absolutely no buzz about this game. It's sad too because I like the world they put the game in (ie. dark), but outside of that it doesn't appeal to me.

I'm keeping my eye on it. I just don't know enough about it to put down full price on it, it'll probably be in the bargain bin by the time I do.

It seems like Bethesda don't go out of their way to help the marketing for titles from studios they don't own.

Same thing I noticed. Where's the buzz? I know we all hate over-hyped games, but... Nothing? I'ma wait a bit on this one.
