Post a Picture of Your Silly Purchase of the Month.

Pages

NeoGAF had (and likely still has) a monthly thread where people post all the crazy crap they buy. I think we should have a similar but more humble version. In those threads, there are always some really ridiculous stuff and I'm not sure if the people are self aware of how silly it is.

So,
Post a photo of something silly you bought this month that you probably shouldn't buy, but bought anyway.
Post 1 picture at most a month.
No stock images, you've got to take a photo. IF YOU BREAK THIS RULE, YOU WILL BE BANNED FROM THE FORUMS!!!! (Just kidding, nothing will happen. :))
You bought this thing yourself.

To start things off,

I probably own fewer than 10 books & comic books combined, yet I purchased this...

I pre-ordered this, but I'm not sure how silly that is.

I heard her for the first time on On The Media last week, and she definitely sounds crazy, but in a very optimistic and positive way.

this thread could get out of hand fast. The last thing I need is photographic evidence of my stupidity.

I hoping to get a pair of Vibram Five Fingers this weekend. Could be considered a stupid purchase depending on how much I wear them.

Huh there's 3 stores within 6 miles of me that sell them. I guess I'd want to try them on before dropping that much $$ on them.

I remember hearing a couple years back about a lot of people trying to go barefoot but there's that old "no shoes no shirt" policy and some other stuff. Guess this is the solution.

Can't post a picture I took as it isn't built yet, but this is the color combo it will be.

That is not a silly purchase, and does not belong in this thread.

Oh, I cannot wait for my silly purchase to arrive in the mail. When it does I will document it with photographs.

Her problem (at least from her TED speech played on On The Media) is that she posits no real world scenarios for her "millions of hours of game time could save the world" theory. Just that her team created a game online, and players created a great deal of solutions to the problems within the game. She never really seemed to acknowledge the fact that the real world issues she feels have solutions through gaming aren't created by designers with the intention of being solved, let alone being fun-- ie, they aren't games with rule sets. Wordsmythe, if that book actually discusses real world applications of her theories I would ask if I might borrow it when you're finished. I'm skeptical, but I'd be interested to read some real data and theories rather than harebrained ideas that playing WoW-clones can save the world.

EDIT to add: IMAGE(http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/09_fit_sport_0041.jpg) Not mine, but I just bought one just like it.

The fit is the most uncomfortable car I have ever driven in. The pedals are the most sensitive things in the world and there is no way for me to sit comfortably. It does have a ton of storage space in such a small car though and is easy to maneuver.

The intention of this thread was not to post cars since those things cost LOTS AND LOTS of money, but, what can I do?

Also, there has been only one self-taken-photo (posted by me!). I expect you all to PROPERLY document your items when you have the chance.

The cost is what categorizes a car as a silly purchase, especially from a person like myself that feels cars aren't entirely necessary in the average urban lifestyle. But I do get what you mean, sorry.

What can I say? If 560hp of AWD with only two seats and no trunk doesn't strike you as even a little silly then you're not getting a check ride when it arrives

Fixed!

Definitely a little silly. In the best possible way.

I'm just joking. Post away with whatever you like! The more posts the better.

Wow. These are cool. I now think I want a pair, but I'm going to give it ten minutes and see if that disappears.

Enjoy it! I've been driving an '04 Jazz for four years now, and really do enjoy it. Its been a workhorse for us, though I find myself wishing for a bit more 'get up and go' (and ass cushion) on my hour-long commute.

We bought an '09 Jazz in June, we're very happy with it. It's fuel efficient, roomy (for its size) and fairly good looking. This car shouldn't be in this thread at all

I went to the local outdoor equipment store that came up on Vibram's store locator and the manager tells me that they've been trying to get a supply of Vibrams since last June but they keep getting told that there isn't enough stock in the warehouse to ship to them. Apparently Vibram can't keep up with the demand. I'm going to try another store tomorrow. I've seen people wearing them every now and then and they look f'ing sweet!

I bought a bike halfway around the world from my house with no real way of getting it back. I wonder if USPS will ship it...

UPS would. You'd be surprised at how cheap you can ship things if you're not worried about how long it takes.

Or how damaged it will be. Ask the seller to take it to a shop to package it for UPS-- and pay for insurance. I tried to ship a PC tower that I built for my parents from my old job through UPS and forgot to add insurance, and my dad said the package arrived wet, crushed, and torn. Some plastic bits on the case were cracked, the screws to tighten the side panel down were totally bent or snapped off completely. Point is, UPS will f* your sh* up if you're not careful. What kind of bike did you get, anyway?

Right. UPS doesn't exactly exist at Undisclosed Locations in SW Asia. I know most folks' locations aren't accurate, mine.. well, mine is. And actually, the first 6000 miles wouldn't even be actual USPS.

As to what kind of bike I got, $99 AAFES special. It's a front suspension only pseudo mountain bike from Smith & Wesson.

Pleeeeeease tell me it has a rifle mounted on it somewhere.

I know things can happen but I get and send stuff by UPS all the time and never had any damage. I mainly am dealing within the US, so that may have a bearing?

well, YMMV and all, but I was shipping just within California. I don't think I've ever had a package that wasn't insured not look like it was put through the ringer before arrival, although the times I've not insured UPS shipments are few and far between.

Having worked for UPS as both labor and management I can confirm that you need to insure your shipments or pack them really well. The drivers who get stuck dropping the mangled packages at your door aren't the ones responsible for the damage, it's the truck load, unload, and pre-load crews that end up abusing the goods. The stated corporate policy of handling every package with care is completely useless in the face of the sheer number of packages you're required to handle per hour. The conveyor belts keep moving no matter how far behind you may be and tossing, shoving, and squashing the packages becomes the only way to keep up with the flow.

Spring for the insurance, or ship it in a Pelican case. Changing carriers won't help, in my experience they all have the same problems as UPS.

I use to work at UPS and I'm surprise anything gets anywhere with the kind crazy stuff I seen. Any way they make bike cases for easy shipping but they will cost more than the bike.
