DC: Universe - Catch All

So, it looks like I'm gonna be going PC + controller. Have you guys tried that set up before?

I've played primarily with a controller. I've switched between an xbox 360 controller and a logitech cordless rumblepad 2 and they both worked well.

I was thinking 360 since, I've got so many laying around. Thanks for the heads up G-dawg!

I've heard that they did a big patch recently. Can any of you speak to how that has or not changed the quality of the game? Have they nerfed the fun or delivered on promised polish?

I was playing one of the skill sets they heavily revamped: Mental. All the changes were good, all helped the skill set have more focus, work better, and look better. They nerfed a number of things, which slows down progression, but I'm guessing the real game will be slower anyway. I thought the game was just as much fun post-patch as before, probably more since they did a lot of good work on the interface.

So this is coming out next week. Everyone still enamored of it? I am really thinking about getting it.

This is still a definite buy just not at launch for me.

Ditto. Anyone in Beta want to elaborate on what they've got going on as a last hurrah event(s)?

hmm, i have a $30 giftcard for Best Buy, I might pick this up when it comes out...

Do we have an updated list of powers and abilities yet?

I was thinking of typing up something really long, but I realized it would probably be too long to read.

Basically, as a recreational WoW player who quit because end-game just didn't appeal to me at all, DCUO was a lot of fun. I've got it pre-ordered and pre-loaded.

The gameplay was fun, the missions were streamlined, and the content was pretty cool for a comics fan.

Unlike City of Heroes, they don't waste your time making you feel like a sort-of-super-person for the first zillion levels - you start right out with super travel abilities and powers. Within a few hours of play you'll start to earn iconic powers that mimic specific DC Universe heroes - I was partial to Cpt. Marvel's power, where I was struck by golden lightening from above that damaged and knocked back enemies in a radius around me.

I am even - Lord Help Me - considering the Lifetime subscription plan. That way I can pick it up and put it down at will for the six months it will take to go free-to-play without feeling any guilt.

Interesting stuff. Thanks for the beta write-ups guys. As a longtime CoH/V player this one has always been on my radar. Just missed some beta giveaways the other week so I didn't get to try it still. Probably wait and see the reviews before I decide though.

One substantial negative - at least on the hero side, the Watchtower serves as the central hub for getting around hither and yon. It's too big. Like, way too big. If the teleporters were all in some central "dispatch area" or something, it would make sense. As it is, though, it's confusing to navigate and takes FOREVER to get around. Forever in gamer terms, that is.

The environment of being able to wander around the famous DC environment was something akin to entering The Prancing Pony in LotRO - pretty cool to visit it "for realz, yo".

I was very much a Marvel comic book geek in middle school/high school, and really interested in the game, but play WoW mostly right now, some questions I have to help me decide:

Since the game is very combat oriented/mouse button combos from what I have read, would the PS3 version be better? I currently play WoW, but not as much button mashing...

If I were to get the PS3 version, is it the same servers as the PC version, so the 2 types of users an play together?

If I do get the pc version is it better to use a PS3 controller or 360 controller or just keyboard/mouse since that is what I am used to?

Would either of those even work on a pc?

Will anyone be putting a GWJ guild together? GWJ - Global World Justice:)

I just jumped in, on PS3. All of you on PS3 (ha ha!) feel free to send friend requests!

I played with a mouse just fine. I prefer it to a console controller

Rainsmercy - PC and PS3 are not cross platform compatible.

I would suggest getting it for PC and trying both control options. Go with the one you enjoy more. I like the controller but the downside is that any chat or other extensive stuff needs me to drop the controller and grab the keyboard.

Hey how's the superspeed? Just looking at the website and it mentions running up walls.

That was always the problem with City of's version, limited vertical movement.

I'll be on tomorrow on the PC version. Let me know what server we're doing, if we've decided on one.

You can run right up the wall. Same with acrobatics. I preferred flight but they were all a lot of fun.

I tested super-speed alot as it was my favorite of the movement powers.

Things to know about speed:
You can run up everything(walls, ceilings, park benches)
While running up a building you can jump near the zenith and super-jump with the momentum carrying you up and over the building and for several hundred more yards.
There is a speed power where you are run forward for 1 second and abruptly stop, causing anything in the general vacinity to get hit with a vaccuum force and act like an explosion went off.
You are able to get faster. You can take a speed force power that allows you to press a button and go even faster but if you slow down you have to start running and press the button again. The speed is almost too much at that point but great if you just have a long distance to cover from point a to point b.

Things to know about acrobatics:
You will cling to anything while it's on...good and bad.
You get a glide that is quite enjoyable. You are able to buff it and get some sort of rocket boots where you can glide forever, it's like flying but lamer.

Side Note:
If you take the Natural power set and plan on going down the shape-shifting tree, if you take the werewolf form you gain super-speed in it so it's sadly redundant if you already choose that as your travel power.

Dangit. I came home and was all excited to see that it was "ready to play" but it has to download a couple more gigs of data and I've gotta hit the sack.

What kind of characters are you guys going to build? I want a super hero based on Prince Zuko/Immortal Iron Fist: Iron Zuko, and some sort of super strength villain The Superlative Hulf.

I won't be building anything tonight. Dang snowstorm, dang UPS

I downloaded the patch super quickly, but now the servers are down.

Is it too much to ask for a little bit to create my first character?

Two more nights of work, then I get my "weekend". Although this one is already full up with chores. All I wanna do is fight pretend evil!

Servers are up now. I've created two characters so far.

So how does the grouping work in this for characters whose levels have a large delta?

Decided to go with the PC version. Downloading from steam now.

Have we decided on a server for the PC? Also do we want a League?

Is there any interest in a villain league on a PvP server?

I'm installed and ready to go, right now on New Frontier, but willing to change if people want to set up a League

New Frontier it is.
