There's Plenty of Pile for Everyone

This month I choose:

- Overlord (PC)
- Ys Seven (PSP)

I can't making any promises. It's only January but I have so much going on.

After a successful game pile cleanup for 2010 - finished 17 games - I'm starting off 2011 with 2 for January - Final Fantasy 13 (for maybe the 4th or 5th time as my game of the month) and Limbo.

January is going to be

- Halo Reach on Heroic Solo (360, I think just the last chapter to go)
- Dawn Of War II (PC, main campaign, I think I'm over halfway there)
- Dragon Age: Origins (PC, main campaign, I'm some twenty hours in)
- something on the laptop... Max Payne 2, I'm already halfway there (PC)
- I need something else to play on the TV, since my wife might be hogging the PC too much. Let's say Final Fantasy XII (PS2), I gotta be quite close to the end by now

I will also play a minimum of one session of my tabletop D&D campaign and a game of tabletop Space Hulk. I would want to promise running a session of tabletop Dark Heresy, but frankly that may be unrealistic.

I brought my 360 to San Antonio while I'm here for business. Going to add on Kane and Lynch 2 this month. It's supposed to be short, so I hope to knock it out this week.

Deadly Premonition (360), Chaos Rings (iOS), and Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People (Wii).

I pick Uncharted 2. I liked playing it. I don't know why I didn't finish it.

Put me down for Darksiders on the 360, or multi-platform I suppose. I told Mystic Violet I'd finish it, so I'll set that as a goal for the month.

If it counts, I plan on finishing Tales of Monkey Island Part 1. I'll probably spread out finishing all the chapters.

Sat down and finished up Limbo this evening. Took 2 sittings for me and absolutely loved it. Excellent game overall...beautiful with great puzzles that weren't cheap in any sense.

*sigh*

I don't know if I'll be able to finish Overlord. I stopped playing it the first time around but couldn't remember why. This second attempt is a huge reminder. There are a few minor issues that really work against the player.

- The main spell for the Overlord changes back to the default one whenever a new area loads. I have to remember to change it or, at a critical moment, I end up throwing fireballs instead of activating my shield spell.
- The inability to create macros or set battle commands so I don't have to cycle through minion types. Controlling two or three types of minions at a time would've been a huge improvement too.
- If we are being flanked, ATTACK. Don't wait until I notice that you guys are dying and send you into battle to fight. Get 'em!
- Blue minions should rez dead ones all the time. All the freakin time, please. Not just when I place a marker down or send them into the battle hoping they don't attack the enemies instead. Dead minion? Go get it. If it's not safe then I'll call you back on my own.
- And when the blue minions rez you, don't just stand at their marker waiting for me to select your specific color and call you into battle. Get back out there! >_<

I have two or three major areas left but I might not make it.

He he. The ending really makes the game. I'm still psyched for Darksiders 2 because of it.

Strong Bad Episode 4 is done. What a drag. My wife and I didn't enjoy that one at all. On to Episode 5 and the end!

Heavy Rain
Mass Effect 2 (just started this one)
Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon (never did get past the dam)
Getting all the x4 items in LBP.

That's an ambitious goal for the month.

Month? Gah! Hell no!
More like year.

You might want this one then.

Hopefully I'll add more to this list later in the month, but I'd like to choose Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light (available for multiple platforms, but I'm playing on the 360) for now.

I am sorry that I am a bit late to the party, but I wanted to add my games for January:

Red Dead Redemption (360)- This game is too good to be left unfinished. I am in the back third of the game and if I do not get too distracted trying to complete the challenges and ignore trying to complete outfits (my goal is to finish the game, not 100% it) then I should be OK.

Defense Grid: The Awakening (Steam)- I am on the last level of the game and I just have not manned up to the challenge.

Plants vs. Zombies (Steam)- I want to see the end of the story mode and unlock as many mini-game types and modes as I can this month.

Just friended you on Steam, so you can have another target on the friend leaderboards for Defense Grid. Love that game.

I'm in for Assassin's Creed 2 and Burnout Paradise.

Hmm, I should probably put something down for this month. How about FEAR and Batman: Arkham Assylum (PS3) to start.

I was considering adding Defense Grid to the task list, but I won't, because the DLC I'm working through now on the PC is just fiendish. I don't consider a level done until I've golded it, and man, those extra levels are hard.

I'd also like to add VVVVVV to the mix.

Edit: And it's done. At least, I found all the collectibles and wrapped up the campaign. I don't know how much time I'll put into the time trials (although I put enough into one of them that I can easily see how it would get very addicting).

Well, that was quick. I finished Heavy Rain today. I was apparently only like 3 hours from the end. It was pretty good but there was some laziness in the writing that was kind of off-putting. I'll probably play it again just to get all the trophies.

I considered adding another game for January since I finished this one so fast but I have a lot of work to get done this month so I think I'll be happy just working through Just Cause 2.

Halo: Reach done. What a ride, actually as good as the original! For some odd reason, I didn't get a credits roll after the last level, which left me without closure.

I have a feeling I won't meet my goals for the month, but it does feel good to have one down. On the other hand, I really feel like doing it again on Legendary. Not right away, anyway.

Umm...what was the last bit of gameplay that you experienced? There may have been a hair more content that you missed that would provide some closure.

That game managed to pull me in and scare me in ways that no other horror game (or movie) ever has. Loved it.

You sir are a brave man. I keep shutting it off.

The "Lone Wolf" last stand at Rallypoint Omega, which I guess is supposed to come after the credits. I don't know, I just have a thing about watching the credits sequence.

Sonic and Sega Allstar Racing is done.

There is one achievement left, and I'm not touching it. Get AAA rankings in all 64 race missions. They range from piss easy to controller through the screen hard. I have half on AAA, another third on AA, and about three that have only got A rankings by the skin of their collective teeth. There is no way I am sinking any more into this one, especially with Dragon Age Origins sitting in the wings, wanting some attention. I may return to it in a clean up run, but for now, I'm happy to consider this finished.

Shame, as it really is a fun little kart racer. The online matches I had were a blast, and I think I'll still return to them, just for 'fun'. Crazy I know.

Oh well, onto the grown up game now.

Dead Space goes down.

About 12 hours on the in game clock, nearly 2 years since I bought it. What a great game though, if I could go back to 2008 it would probably be my GOTY. Nice pacing, well designed, good story, tense moments, even the end game boss didn't annoy me too badly. It's tempting to jump into a New Game +, but I will hang back a while.

Not going to declare anything else new yet, just going to play around with a few games and see if I get any direction.

That's a wrap for all the Dragon Age content. I steadily worked through the smaller DLC this week and managed to tackle Awakenings this weekend. I thought it was supposed to be a fairly lengthy campaign, but I was able to make it through in about 12 hours. Leliana's Song and Awakenings are probably the only two that were worth playing.

King's Bounty: The Legend is done. I had to cheat quite a lot at the end!

Batman: Arkham Asylum, with 100% of the collectibles is done.

I would like to change one of my selections based on a birthday gift I just received: please remove Super Mario Galaxy 2 from my list, and Add Dead Space Extraction (Wii) in its place. I'd like to bang out DS:E prior to DS2's late January release.

Thanks!
