SC2 Pro Tournament Discussion

Yeah not particularly exciting matches today, but there weren't particularly exciting players either. NesTea is good of course, and BestfOu is usually solid, but I think Polt is a one-hit wonder and I've never been that impressed with Maka's play despite the strategy that's named after him.

FruitDealer v. MVP tomorrow which should be great. Then a ZvZ which hopefully won't be boring. Pretty please?

I dunno. I think MVP doing exactly what he did in the Gisado matches is a very real possibility, which means we'll see him win two games with Marine/Tank and almost never really be in any danger of losing.

Then we'll be left with the Zerg players slugging it out trying not to get dropped down to the "Up and Down" matches.

Pretty entertaining game with SlayerS_Boxer v. Hyperdub. At one point Boxer makes five extra command centers and mines purely with mules.

TSL_Rain vs TSL_Trickster (Tester) was pure Protoss beauty.

I've missed having Tester in the last couple GSL's. He's always been one of the more fun to watch Protoss players.

I really like watching Kisu play, and even though

Spoiler:

he lost the game on Scrap against choya

, the camera shot of his face showed that Tester was totally keeping his composure. Sort of explains those crazy defenses he pulled off in Season 1.

Man Loner was siiiiick. Like he was actually sick. He played pretty well, too.

Not sure what's wrong with Ret, but he made some pretty dumb strategy decisions. Pool first early aggression wins him game 2, but then he goes hatch first macro on Xel'naga Caverns, a map notorious for punishing hatch first builds, and he loses pretty convincingly.

MC and Nada are playing this morning

I really wish it was a best of 3 or best of 5 or something though. This group play one game match stuff is weird.

Feels like it's limiting matches that could have been epic if they went at least one more game.

July is playing in the Code A matches though. That should be cool.

Haven't followed the new GSL at all, any foreigners still in it?

Agreed. Though I understand the desire to quickly rank the third and fourth place finishers in a group for the purposes of the up and down matches. What I don't get is why, at least from the looks of the schedule, the round of 16 is going to be played with this same format. I figured by then they'd go to the usual best of three/fives.

There's only two foreigners in Code S, Jinro and IdrA, and they're playing against each other on the last day of ro32.

In Code A there were two foreigners at the start, Ret and Loner. Ret lost and Loner won.

Loved the OgsMC games today. Such a killer.

NaDa's defense against InCa in their first game was awesome, especially after he got all his units caught behind the minerals.

The Byun v. Golden first game was pretty entertaining even with its not so stellar play. Also really liked TSL_Killer's use of Phoenixes, which basically won him the game. Surprised we don't see more Phoenixes in GSL. They're a great support and scouting unit.

CatZ vs. rsvp in the SCReddit tournament.

Just crazy. It will probably be posted everywhere soon, so watch it when you can.

I hope Idra goes down. I can't see him going as far as Jinro could.

ROOTKiWiKaKi vs. EGMachine in the SCReddit Invitational yesterday.

It's bound to show up in the pimpest plays of 2011 compilations.

Two players from each group continue on so we can see Jinro and Idra advance here.

SC2 Reddit invitational. Reddit guys are all out at this point and the tournament is almost over but from what I hear there were some epic games http://www.justin.tv/screddit?#/w/74...

Final best of 7 series starting in a minute, Morrow vs. WhiteRa.

Wow did you guys see SlayerSBoxer vs Hyperdub in the GSL? Blew my mind. WOW.

Wow. Can't wait to watch that one when I get home today.

Just watched the Reddit games between Catz and WhiteRa. Very interesting and entertaining games, highly recommend them.

Whitera is a freaking monster sometimes.

Most of the times he is You should definitely check out his games with Machine as well. I wish he was younger and not having to deal with a wife and possible kids in the near future. Definitely my favourite toss player out there.

Oh man, that was hilarious. Of course he had a bazillion banelings waiting after that, but that was an impressive fail.

Also Clide is damn good.

Man, I could have done with another few minutes of Artosis ragging on BitbyBitPrime. It was hard to even care about the games, I was too busy chuckling at how many times him and tasteless managed to say "all-in" in just three games.

Pretty sorry Code A games this morning (a technical problem marred the first series, and the second series was horribly one-sided). But now it's time for the Idra vs Jinro Code S group we've been waiting for.

Edit: The Idra v Jinro, and Idra's second game were both pretty great. Long and tense macro-fests. But Jinro's second game makes me sad.

Thank you Jinro!

SCReddit was seriously kicking GSL's ass with good macro games until this.
