NE Ohio Tabletop Gaming...exclamation point!

Pages

I find myself on the west side of Cleveland with no local gaming group. I also find myself wondering if there might be other goodjers nearby who are in the same boat. If so, we should talk.

If not, I'm sad and alone.

Now, I'm not proposing much. We're all busy with jobs, babies and the like. I get that. Just a monthly boardgame night, maybe, or a low-key, biweekly D&D campaign. Perhaps a little of both.

In any case, if you're within reasonable driving distance of Cleveland and are interested in something like this, let me know.
___________

UPDATE:

Thus far we've decided on a roughly every-three-week NEO Game Day.

We're sticking to Saturdays for now and the locations will probably be either Solon or Lakewood, depending on the day.

Upcoming NEO GameDays:
June 11: Lakewood, OH - 4pm

If only you were a bit further south and east (~134mi that is) I could help.

I'm in for a monthly or maybe bi-weekly DnD game. Or board games, w/e. And my house will probably be available for hosting stuff.

Wrong country!

Color me interested.

They come unto us in ones and in twos and lo, we did play some DnD.

My legs won't take me that far.

Are we open to other pen & paper rpg's? I've always wanted to try something in the Star Wars line or Battletech. Be gentle, I've never played a p&p rpg.

Edit: Friday nights or the Saturdays work best for me, since I would be driving an hour to get there each month. (Need my beauty sleep for work and all)

Yes, that would be the plan. Truthfully, I'm a bit sick of 4e but it could be that I'm still just sick of our old group. I currently own most of the SAGA edition Star Wars stuff and both Toph and I are interested in other systems. We'll see who else is interested and what they are interested in before picking something. 4e is nice because it's really, really easy both to learn to play and run. And since I have a subscription to DnD Insider, it's insanely easy to make characters and just play rather than take a whole session to get people situated.

As for days, I would really like to do it on Saturdays as that allows us to start earlier and go until ? but that's dependent on our group's availability.

I know it's not the same, but is there a way we could play online? Some combination of vent + irc + something something + magic = win. Then meet up every so often in person.

I just got MtG:Duels of the Planeswalkers if that's what you mean by "magic". And I'm always up for a game over Steam.

And I am definitely interested in this!!! I've got a bunch of boardgames & RPGs. If we want to go the RPG route, I have 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Edition D&D books as well as the "revised" Star Wars RPG books. I also picked up the Battletech basic rules, the Shadowrun 2nd edition rules and the Mutants and Masterminds core rule book but have never actually played those games.

As far as availability, Saturdays are best for me but I sometimes run a game design workshop that may conflict.

I got a copy of Shadowrun 2nd ed for $2 at my FLGS. Awesome game, but it makes me mad that I can't jack my brain into the Internet and fly around in a vr body yet.

Well, it looks like Saturdays, in general, are what we're looking at. I propose we set up a Saturday in the near future that the lot of us can attend and decide what we'd like to do. Penguin and I can probably pick up 1 or 2 decent guys from our group of friends and we'll have plenty for either boardgames or a decent roleplaying party (I mean "group of adventurers," but both definitions work).

It...can be done. There is magic involved, and it is dark and terrible. There is no good way to do it, just varying degrees of frustration. Sometimes it's great, but often it just turns into a group of people staring at a screen that isn't moving, listening to someone nervously talk about elves and then expecting them to do math. That said, some people love it. Penguin, drdoak and I have tried it a number of times and we just can't make it work well enough to be worthwhile.

I just noticed you said this. This makes me exceptionally pleased.

Yeah... I would love to. I really would but this is something we've tried in the past and... it just doesn't work.

Best I could do, and this is a longshot, is set up a laptop and a webcam and have someone play remotely and I gotta tell you, that's probably very little fun.

That's cool since I want to go to one of these anyway =)

Tigerbill and L&L are in, anyone else? Honestly, the influx of 2 people is enough to get us to do something, (I think I have both of your emails, I'll send something out) but in cases like this, more is better so we have alternates every week. We have non-goodjer friends we can pull in but I'd really like to play with a new bunch. Our usual friends are kind of flaky =)

Toph or I will send out an email tomorrow and we'll add other people as we go.

It's on this goddamn side of the ocean!!!

Grrr, why does Portugal have so many hot chicks and not enough nerds for me to play (boardgames) with?

Wait, what? Hmmm, my calculations seem a bit off...

Between Penguin and I, we have the boardgame inventory of a small gaming store and I also have a foot-and-a-half stack of d6 Star Wars source books (which is totally different from SAGA). With everyone's collection of geekery it looks like we're set for whatever we'd like to do.

And the doors are by no means closed. Anyone in the area who wants to hang out, feel free to post or PM and we'll try to get you in.

Except for Portugal. I only want people there who really want to be there.

Confirmed.

Careful with what you wish for. You don't want a big, loud, awkward foreigner crashing through your house, constantly referencing Lovecraftian porn, do you?

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have you come and visit, but if you try to get my wife to give you a Deep One, I'll cut you.

I could make occasional guest appearances. Like Ans, I'm not making the 4 hour round trip that often. Worst comes to worst, we could all get Neverwinter Nights 2. Maybe?

We'll try to keep the semi-nearby folks updated, just in case they feel like driving. In return, please let us know if anything gets planned in your area.

As for NWN2, there are actually a few of us that already have it. That can certainly happen in the future, I suspect.

Tell you guys what, if you're interested in attending on occasion (and I know a lot of you are), PM me your email. I already have Bill, baladec, and L&L's. We'll set something up on gmail to let you know when something is going on and what we're doing.

I think we're likely going to shoot for every two weeks, so as much as we can (which is always fluid in a gaming group) we'll try to get out the time, place, and agenda a few meetings ahead.

Also, Baladec and Ans, you guys should probably start your own group =) We have a ton of Pittsburgh goodjers and maybe both our groups can get together every few months?

So, is that definitely a thing that should not be?

Spoiler:

I'm really happy with this pun.

Boo. Get off the stage.

Heh, will do! No need to hijack the thread further. You guys have fun, roll a D20 for me!

If you're looking for something more local the Gaming Association of Southwestern PA (aka GASP) meets monthly at Legions Hobbies and Games. There are board games, RPGs, and war-games going from 11AM till Midnight. Games day, as it is called, happens on the 2nd Saturday of every month. The next one (which I shall be attending) is this Saturday January the 8th.

Toph, this might be worth going to both because it is fun and we wanted an excuse to go somewhere with Yuenling.
