Steam Holiday 2010 sales chatter

So I was able to stick to my self-made promise to not get anything before Christmas. It's easy when you just don't go to the Steam store page or onto this thread :).

After Christmas, I bought two games that I had been looking at picking up for quite a while: Mount & Blade: Warband and Star Ruler. ~$16-$17 for both plus I used some Steam credit that I had put in for TF2 stuff so it ended up "costing" me about 2 bucks. So I am really happy that I can show some restraint when I want to.

Also helping is that the sales after Christmas had very little of interest to me or was filled with stuff I already had.

I ended up with:

Mafia 2 + DLC
Mass Effect 1
Mass Effect 2
BF2 Complete
Oddboxx
Borderlands DLC (the new one)
Archon Classic
Greed Corp
Grotesque Tactics
Singularity

I don't even want to tally up the cost, it would be too depressing.

I was a good boy this year.

Only picked up:

The Witcher
IL-2 Sturmovik
Birds of Prey
Crisis Collection
Magic TG: (Thanks Cyrax).

Quick Poll: What steam games you got from the sale have you been playing for any significant amount of time since the sale ended? For me it's none, but I havent had much time. I would be playing Plants vs Zombies out of the 8-10 games I got.

This is why I like these threads. I've never even heard of Star Ruler. After poking around a bit, it looks like a really neat game. I'm not ready to pick it up right now, mind you, but it's something I may pick up eventually.

Ssssh! Don't tell anyone, but I'm using a Logmein session to my home computer right now to plug away at some Crack Heroin Squares whenever I get a few seconds.

I have been putting a lot of time into Darksiders. Mogg told me the ending is really good, so I'm not letting myself drop it off. Once I finish it we'll have to see whether I hit another game from the sale or not.

If it's just the holiday ones, Spectromancer, Burnout Paradise, and Gratuitous Space Battles. Going back to Black Friday, World of Goo, Osmos, and huge bucketloads of Just Cause 2.

WOW! AN UPDATE! (by the way this is my third edit - I'm an editin' machine!)

For those who like lists - check out this piece of hot fresh pie! (new titles are in bold)

1. AI War - Because it simulates our future where we fight the machines. In space.
2. Magic: The Gathering - Duels of the Planeswalkers - All of the fun and none of the (actual) cards! Plus my wife likes it.
3. Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box - I got to destroy vehicles. I would appreciate the driver flying out the window when I head-on another car though.
4. The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom - I like pies.
5. Machinarium - Quirky, PC Gamer magazine liked it and it was cheap. UPDATE: I beat it.
6. Mirror's Edge - Gamesradar staff loved it and it was cheap too. Plus it's pretty to look at.
7. Greed Corp - Because my friend and I can play a quick strategy game whenever he is not strangling his kids.
8. King Arthur - The Role-playing Wargame - I am starting to dig Paradox Interactive games and this is one of several I have purchased from them.
9. Overlord (all of the games) - The gobbos make me laugh.
10. Shatter - It's breakout set to Techno music.
11. Europa Universalis III - This game has always intrigued me.
12. Amnesia: The Dark Descent - PC Gamer magazine editor-in-chief Logan Decker says it makes him pee his pants.
13. Delve Deeper - I was enabled by the game's Steam store page. Effin' Steam eh?
14. Super Meat Boy - I love platformers and to find a good one for the PC is... good. At least it will be if I ever get it to start. UPDATE: This game still doesn't work after a million solutions and a complete Win 7 reinstall. Insert sad smiley here.
JUST ADDED!
15. AaAaAA!!! - A Reckless Disregard for Gravity - Addictive little number here.
16. Fallout: New Vegas - My friend gifted it to me. Ach. Now I would feel bad but I am taking some good drugs - so I don't.
17. Guardians of Graxia - It's a really hard game someone said and since I am into Paradox titles, eh, why not.

I went on holiday right in the middle of the sale. Before I left, I'd put time into FEAR. Since I got home, I've been playing Mafia II. Put about 3-4 hours in so far.

I've been playing Battlefield: Bad Company 2 plus Vietnam fairly seriously. Other than that, I've put a few minutes into Super Meat Boy, only to conclude that I really, really need a 360 controller to play it.

I've started up Mafia already, and I've put about 2 hours into PoP: Forgotten Sands. I also played Global Agenda a bit with some friends. I bought them the game. Does that count?

I've put three hours into VVVVVV. Half that time was spent dying 500 times in pursuit of a single trinket.

Super Meat Boy! (title screen announcer voice)

About two hours each on Alpha Protocol (last sale, but I started playing it during the current sale) and Amnesia. A few minutes here or there on Dark Forces and Recettear.

Same here! Just finished the light world last night. What an excellent, brutal platformer.

I'd be interested in hearing this too.

I'd hold off, it has some issues. Unless you are like me and pick up anything that's Space 4x.

Hell, I'd even pick up Quintin Stone if he had Space 4x tattooed on his forehead.

Spectromancer, and then Burnout Paradise. My guess is BP is going to take a lot of time that I don't have; I sat down to play for 15 or 20 minutes last night and played for an hour and a half.

I'm such a sucker for good cinematic slo-mo.

This is the first I've heard of LogMeIn. Does it actually perform well enough to play a game?

I'm the same way. Hold off on Star Ruler. It looks like it has a lot of poential. As an alternative, I'd recommend Distant Worlds or even Master of Orion 2 from GoG. And avoid Armada 2526 at all costs.

The aliens in Quintin Stone are too homogenous for me to be interested in it.

None yet. I'm still grinding out King's Bounty from last year's sale.

Hint, it's not on my forehead.

It doesn't matter when it's Arcturian, baby!

Battlefield Bad Company 2 and Europa Universalis 3: Heir to the Throne (though that from on sale over at Impluse).

I...errr...installed a few of them? Does that count? I played Grotesque Tactics for about 10 minutes.

I finished Machinarium, I finished one of the 6 Sherlock Holmes games in the collection, and I've played some coop of Killing Floor.

I got ME2 as a gift, but have never finished ME, so I've been playing that too - not gotten from this sale, but related to it

Anyone remember Mafia? That game is pretty damn hard. Not in that you need real skill to play it, just that it's unforgiving and sometimes a little random. Not sure if I will be able to get through the game this time

To be honest, I was surprised by how many I've played-- 9 out of 12. The 3 I didn't play were the Lucasarts Adventure pack (I'll get there eventually), Broken Sword Twin Pack (I was always kind of reluctant to start the series in the middle, and now this year I was able to purchase the first one from Steam,) and Majesty, which is the only one where I'm not sure if I should have bought it. I mean, I'm sure it's a good game and all, but I'm not sure when I'll actually get around to playing it.

I've put a good deal of time into both my purchases. I've gone through 3 or 4 scenarios in Railroad Tycoon 2, having to replay half of one to meet the deadline, and I'm half-way through FEAR. I've made sure my buddy, whom I gifted BFBC2 to, has put in some good time as well.

Oh I didn't see that. 2009.

Have to look at my purchases from Thanksgiving/Holiday sale...

Looks like I played and beat Dead Space, Trine, Mirror's Edge, Torchlight.

Played Osmos, Darwinia, Mr Robot, Jade Empire.

Only thing I didn't play yet was STALKER. It was only $2 though.
