I'm playing a female barbarian with a chainmail bikini.

You're welcome.

Haiku, you didn't specify, but I'll assume again; sounds like you're in for DM'd campaign?

You're excited to wear a bear pelt and antlers?

I would love to have time for this. Alas.

This is gonna be fun. I have to warn you, my WPM when typing in mail gauntlets is pretty low.

Would love to play but not sure if I can maintain a steady schedule. Does the game support anything like a one-shot adventure? Or could I come in as a temp replacement or something if a party is short a person?

Is this Sunday night ok with the DM'ed crew? I don't care what class I am, as long as its not bard. I won't be available til 9:00 pm eastern due to work, but I can have a guy rolled up and ready to jump in. Don't wait on my account.

LockAndLoad, you can be the expendable henchman.

Look at Neverwinter connections for one shots.
There is certainly no reason that the GWJ community couldn't do them.
I think there's a list of good "one shot" modules somewhere. Probably at the vault.

I have family at my house for New Years. The DM'd campaign won't start until next week.
I will, however, likely be looking for ginea pigs next week. I hope everyone remembers, I've never DM'd anything before. Hope you're willing to help me learn, and it just gets better as we work through the bumpy start.

I expect that the first couple of sessions will be experimental, making no real progress in any kind of campaign. We'll get characters outfitted, and do some short skirmishes or something. Establish methods that work for us. Probably about two sessions in, we'll start into a campaign. Maybe sooner. I've been playing around in the DM101 module, and I'm about to start pre-playing "a stop along the way"; a suggested first DM's module. I'm going to start poking around to see if some of the DMFI modules have large enough worlds to support a campaign without me having to build. I just don't expect to have time to write an adventure, and build it. I'll be looking for out of the box content.

I've played some MP campaigns where we had two DMs. One was assisting. If anyone is interested in something like that, and is willing to build, then I can assist that person. That would open the possibility of a much more open ended, customized adventure. I feel fairly confident though, that some "canned" modules will be plenty of fun.

What is the best way for all of us to communicate? skype, IRC?

The plan this week is to put the server up, and make sure everyone can connect. They've modified NWN2, since the first original release to automatically download the module and haks needed for any particular server. I don't think I'm using anything special. Since I pay for bandwidth overages, I'd like it if everyone tried to download the module ahead of time, [but don't play it] then try to connect to make sure there aren't any other little files your machine needs. I'm afraid of how much bandwidth I'll use communicating with six users. MMOs seem to use a lot, and since I don't know the first thing about IT issues, I'm expecting this to use more.

We need to discuss an evening for this to happen.

I've gone through the DMFI DM101, and I'm starting to pre-play our module.

The first night, we'll probably just get everyone in the starting area, buying starting equipment, and getting outfitted. We'll make sure everyone has a supply of goods suited for a DM'd campaign, and not a CRPG adventure. Yes, you'll need bedrolls, and food, ropes, and all of the things that are useless in a CRPG. On the upside, you'll be able to use that stuff to do things that you couldn't in a CRPG. With some luck we'll start the story.

Honestly, I expect some glitches with connecting and getting everyone in game. I hope you guys will hang on through it, and you come in to it ready to help. We're in this together and I'm relying on you guys too. I'm new at hosting these things.

Alright, in on the NWN2 sale. I'm interested in both groups if there's room in the DND group.

Just picked it up on the Steam enabler sale. Not sure when I'll have time to play just yet, but I'm definitely interested.

Not sure about my ability to commit to any MP games, but definitely interested in following this thread. Hopefully I'll be able to join some games. Would be fun to have some one-off sessions designed for single-evening adventures.

Two more to the list in the first post.

Check your name and see that you're listed in the correct category.

Alright I installed the module & hak pak and made sure its working, then fiddled around with the keyboard map and camera styles. This is going to be fun.

Since the computer I'll be using is near the kids' bedrooms and they'll be in bed, I hadn't planned on doing alot of voice chat but I'll listen in on whatever chat program we use, and I'm a pretty fast typist. If it's necessary I can see about getting a mic though.

Are we on for next Sunday, and what time? I'll be free after 10:00pm eastern.

Add me to the list. Sunday nights are optimal for me, and I'm very interested in seeing how it works. I'll take some time to look into the sites you've linked. It's been many years since I played a table top game, but I'd like to give this a shot. I'm more interested in DM'd adventures than going through the campaign.

I'm happy to go without voice for the game. In fact, I prefer it that way.

When it comes to communication, I was referring to the process of getting connected, getting in game, etc.

We can use Skype if need be. Text chat. I'm ghostship51 on there. I also have YIM installed, and I'm trying to avoid using microsoft's live crap. I don't have IRC, but I can find something, I'm sure.

Any suggestions for a text chat client?

Should be room for one more in the DM'd event.

I'll be shooting for 8pm Eastern. Perhaps 8:30. My kids are still under five, so they're in bed early.

That too early Running Man?

I go for earlier, because my kids wake up at 6am no matter how late they went to bed. New Years Day was... difficult for me.

When we do start up, I'd like to start and end on time. @11pm, I'll probably be calling a stop if it's possible, barring a huge melee in progress. I've had problems with these running long in the past. I too am usually torn between fun, closure, and getting a minimum of sleep to function as a parent and professional the next day.

You know, since this is probably a semi-weekly thing I can probably swing 8:30 eastern (6:30 my time) this Sunday, without feeling like a negligent parent

As for a chat program, I don't have experience with many, but I'll install Skype if thats the most common one.

Put me under the D&D aspect of it as well; it'd be interesting to see how that goes.

Done.

And with that, I think six players is all that I can handle. It's probably more than I should have for a first time behind the wheel.

I'll PM everyone on the list for my game and we'll try to make sure that everyone has downloaded the module, and that we're all using the same chat client; just in case anyone is still on holidays and not following the thread.

Has anyone kicked off a Co-Op session yet? Just interested to hear.

FYI, if anyone would rather have a physical copy of NWN2 instead of the Steam version (personally, I prefer to have some things on disc) I picked up the Platinum Edition for $20 at Best Buy yesterday. It seems to have everything the Steam version does but I haven't installed it yet. (too busy with Morrowind)

I have to admit that having the skill and spell descriptions is nice when you're not a D&D person.

I can admit to going through the manual, planning a character while away from the computer ...in a small room ...where a lot of thinking occurs. Oh, c'mon, like you haven't taken your copy of PCGamer there.

Please also download and install the DMFI player package.

I got a fair way into the play test tonight. I have to say that I'm a little intimidated by how many characters I have to know and play. I'm hoping it all goes smoothly and that I can take it one step at a time. What we have going for us is that the module is scripted in such a way that you could single play it if you had to. I'm hoping that I can just give nudges, and add NPC flavour along the way. With some luck I can indulge player creativity and make this more than a CRPG.

I think it will be best if we make server only characters. You may want to pre-make a test character to get that sorted out ahead of time. That will make it easy to re-make the character server side, on the first game night.

You guys may also want to post some generalities about your character (class at least) so that we can diversify the party a little. If the play test with NPCs is any indication, a couple of tanks will be an asset, but shouldn't be crucial. The playtest has been easy, but I have a difficulty slider that I can tweak during play to keep you guys challenged.

I suggest coming up with a character bio. You may want to post it here; after all there are a lot of literary types here who love that kind of read. Do it up right. Having a character bio, will make playing your character more fun. Remember, as much as you're here for you and your character's story, you're an actor in someone else's character's story. That second part is as important, or more important than the first part. I encourage you to embrace it and fun with it.

Speaking of OC coop, anyone interested in giving a coop session a try this weekend?

I would be down for this. My inspiring holy warrior needs to shut some people down.

Can anyone guinea pig the connection to the server for me.

Any night between now (excluding tonight) and Sunday at about 8:30pm Eastern. I'd just like to make sure that I have my router ports, firewall, etc set up right and everyone can connect.

You need to add ghostship51 to your skype to we can talk if the connection isn't working, and you need the module and hak installed.

Thanks. I don't want to loose Sunday night to connection problems. The rest of it will be challenge enough.

Note: forget what I said about mundane items being needed (bedroll, rope, etc). This module doesn't seem to have any of that available in it. We'll just outfit with whatever the starting area merchant has, and go from there.

I have a test server up right now with the OC loaded.

Server name is: GWJ_test

in the roleplay sections

Password is: partyparty

Hope someone connects for a test.

Down @ 9 pm. Going to read.

Still Looking for testers for the connection.

Possibly tonight, or tomorrow.

I can play in about 2 hours (7 pm eastern) if you want to try some things. Pm me
