WoW: GWJ Alliance Guild Primer

KG - Make some noise in the forums here and you may find people to level with. These groups spring up from time to time. There's a group that is about to hit 80, actually.

No help for you, but I'm sure there will be tons of Worgen levellers (and Dwarf Shaman, etc) come Cat.

Do we have a ex-Horde support group? These elves and gnomes are making me edgy.

I know how you feel... I suggested doing a guild-wide faction change. This is probably the only thing that will get me back into the game, actually. I want Narayan to be a Tauren.

Still trying to be on with officers. Is it Kosher if I pop into Vent tonight and see if anyone can slap me an invite? I did not want to jump in or a raid or practice.

That's totally fine, just make sure they aren't in the middle of a boss fight or anything. If you want to post a time that you'll be on (include time zone or server time, please), I'll try to be on myself.

I am going to pop on after work, around 5:30 eastern time, Maybe around 11 later tonight to do some more Brewfest. The server is a Chicago server, right?

I believe it's a Dallas server. It's definitely Central time. A bunch of us will be on from 7:30 - 10pm, because there's a raid. I will be on Azorius, or you can just /w anyone in the guild and ask for an officer.

Paging Grenn the one-man welcome wagon, Grenn, you are wanted on Blackhand...

Unfortunately, I have no money to get on anymore. Might change in the future. Until then, I expect to hear of an all caps welcome for KingGorilla. You know the place. Aries, I'm looking in your direction!

I think Aries is on hiatus as well! Face it, there's no substitute for the real Grenn.

Dammit! We need more silly people. Ok. I'll find a second job.

Brother, I can bring the silly. People found out what I do with matches and my nipples last night.

Azorius it really is me:)
Yea couldn't think up more to type

Are there any profs in demand? Right now I am mining and flower picking, with cooking as my dominant secondary(try the clams).

Checking the roster we seem to have a healthy number of Engineers. Looks like a few tailors.

Do we need leather workers? Smiths? Chanters? Alchemists?

Thanks to a few of our big alt army generals pretty much every profession is probably covered to a decent extent. Among active players (and especially raiders) you'll probably find that jewelcrafting is especially well covered since it's a great min/maxing profession for any class. I know alchemy is also pretty well covered since it's very useful for healers, and I know we also have a good number of enchanters.

Really, though, the answer to your question is very similar to the answer to the question of "what classes does the guild need," which is that first and foremost you should do what is fun and useful to you. At any given time the guild is going to have gaps in active players running a given profession (and in playing certain classes), so while it is nice to have people thinking about filling those gaps, it's more important to have people having fun playing the game (that's why we all play, after all ).

Anyway, I'm always of the opinion that gathering professions go a lot better with leveling than crafting ones (especially for your first character on a server) since it gives you positive cash flow without having to spend a lot of time at the auction house. Then, when you reach 80 (or 85 soon) you can use that extra cash to quickly powerlevel whatever profession you want for the endgame with materials from the AH.

(That said, you level 1 to 70 so fast these days that it's hard to keep your gathering leveled to match the zones you are questing in. So unless you don't mind spending extra time farming before moving on to new zones I guess that plan maybe doesn't work so well these days -- it certainly didn't for the shaman I just finished leveling. :D)

Zero has given the correct answer, but I will add that I think we have few Inscriptionists (Scribes?)

But by all means, do whatever is fun for *you*. Glyphs can be found on the AH easily. My main has Enchanting because, as a lowbie once, I wanted to make my weapon glow. He has Engineering because it was OP for tanks in BC (back when he was a tank). My other 80 has double gathering because he's an alt, and for him money seems better than negative money plus a small stat boost.

I kind of figured with several hundred members, and a lot at high level, things were set.

I will stick with gathering on this once because as a former guild leader, it is often better to have 5 people gathering materials and one person doing the tailoring, or leather working. People waste so much valuable material, and spend a lot at the AH to grind up trades; not to mention grinding rep, mobs, dungeons for recipes. More mats tends to mean more bags, more potions, more gear. More crafters seems to mean an empty guild bank.

I like cooking, and gathering is almost as fun as finding a treasure chest. And cooking is a general skill that can benefit the whole guild. Also, the cooking daily is easy money.

I may swap mining for skinning as I will probably want some gear from a guild leather worker. Also, it seems that there are not a lot of mining nodes compared to plants.

On a related note, with all of the hunters and shamans, who are the dragonscale leather workers?

KG I've got a hunter at ~45, so if you are running some dungeons close to my level let me know, and I'll switch over to him. I need a good excuse to get him leveled up. I'm usually some mis-spelling of Lockjaw in-game.

Oh, I pop on around 10 or 11 PM Eastern time most nights. I will generally pop in for a few hours in the afternoons on the weekend.

As far as old world dungeons, I have only stuck around and completed one set of lines to the point of getting dungeon quests, which I abandoned and went on.

I have run most of them in a past life. But I did not do many Outland dungeons. So when I pop off there in a few weeks, for sure. In particular, I want the gold and rep from doing those lines. I want my Sporebat pet and mount, I want my Talbuk.

And in truth, I want to be at 80 by Cataclysm and I want to be 85 soon after so I can hit the BG and Arenas.

I groused about this last weekend. But getting a Warlock it's Dreadsteed required you to run the old dungeons. So me and my paladin friends ran them to get our sexy horsies.

If you haven't tried it yet, definitely check out the LFD tool. Lewis, Cheeto and I just finished leveling new toons to 80, and at least 20-60, perhaps up to 70, I found it MUCH faster to level by just chain queuing to LFD that to focus on questing. Granted, the character I was leveling was a healer so I was queueing to runs almost instantly, but if you are looking for the fastest way to level that will probably still be it. (And as a DPSer, you could just quest while you wait for the queue, getting the best of both worlds.) And as a PvP fanatic, you might even try just running BGs. They give exp now, so you might even find some of them to be even better leveling tools than random dungeons from LFD.

O.k a quick question....it may be a stupid one but here goes. How would you go about asking if someone in the guild can craft an item. Post here or make a new topic? Posting in guild chat doesn't seem too wise to me because most likely the crafter may be offline or in the opposite large groupings of players are online but may be busy and I wouldn't want to annoy them if they were raiding.
Probably over thinking this big time. But I figured I would ask.

Probably not a bad idea to ask in g-chat just in case, since if someone is online you can get what you need a lot faster that way (and no one will be annoyed at you asking ), but yeah, if there is something specific you need feel free to make a post about it on the board.

Also, I believe that the new guild interface in 4.0.1 will help you browse guild professions, but I haven't had a chance to check it out yet since my PTR toon isn't in a guild.

You could also try the slightly moldy BHA Crafting Thread and either make a post or send us a PM.

Yeah, I was going to say we'll probably want to refresh that thread come 4.0.1 (or maybe 4.0.3) but I figured we'd wait and see how good the new guild UI is first. From what I've read, I think it just might make such a thread irrelevant since you should be able to get all that info in game now.

Very cool. Many thanks for the replies.

OK, I need some Help. I need to do the last OOX quest, Hinterlands-and the hardest to drop. Do we have some 40 ish alts who have quests there, or need mats for cooking and skinning? I spent an hour last night razing that zone to the ground, and no beacon dropped. I did, however get a ton of meat for cooking, and some gear. Moonkins there drop eggs, which are often needed for cooking dailies and leveling cooking as well. This is also a good area for feathers for tailoring. I just want my chicken pet. Anyone plan to be around at about 10 EST?

Probably a good bet that if the servers are working tonight, people will be around.

The new guild function will allow you to not only look up who has what professions but to open up the list of stuff they can make. Just click on their name, click on their profession and then scroll through their ability list!

Thanks for the invite!

--Fuzzmaster (Fuzzira)

I'm glad to be back playing. I started playing again since two of my friends started playing as well. Would I be able to get them into the guild? I can vouch for either as excellent people.

Hey guys, the links to the guild roster are broken in the opening post, so I was wondering if someone could give me some names of officers I could pst to get an invite?

Thanks.
