Android Games Catch-All

Just seems a little funny to me, someone hunched over their cell phone on the table... video game controller in hand... not sure why, haha.

No offense, I just have never thought of doing that.

I just go for the "oids". SNESoid, NESoid, Gameboid, umm... genesisoid I think. Nope, Gensoid. And I just have the lite versions, I'm not saving and loading states, I just save the game like I would if I were playing it on the system.

Is psx4doid part of the same series? Anyone have experience with that one?

So now that I have all these emulator apps i go the rom site and put the roms on my phone? then i am all set? Really looking forward to this....

thanks,

I don't have one of those new superpowered 1ghz phones, so I haven't tried psx4droid, but if you are looking to play psx games on your phone, then yeah it's the only option, and decent from what I've heard.

And yes, just download the roms you want, put on phone, play.

I am a filthy skimmer and assume it has been mentioned already, but Angry Birds has its hooks in me atm. It is a really fun addictive game.

Cool, I like free stuff. Still haven't bought any apps yet, haven't got bored with the free ones.

The lack of support for more than 2 points on most multitouch screens makes loads of SNES games essentially unplayable on many phones. So in DK Country on my you can't move left, hold down run and jump, you can only do two of those things. Could be solved by having mappable extra buttons though.

It's good but when you come to 3 star the levels the stochastic nature of the physics is pretty frustrating. For plenty of levels you can figure out the "solution" to get the needed stars but then you just have to do it 20 times until the random factors align and the blocks fall the right way.

Hardware keyboards FTW!

Super Punchout is more difficult on my phone than on computer or original SNES though. Damn small buttons...

At least in a few cases (Chronotrigger), you can get around that by mapping one of the keys to an inessential button like vol. up/down.

Super-sweet, thanks!

Those of you in front of a PC but without your phone handy, or who hate typing in a long URL on your little phone keyboard, go here to send yourself an SMS with a download link: http://www.gameloft.com/free-hd-game/

Ugh, I was all excited about getting DH for free until I went to install it and it said it needs access to read my list of phone calls and the phone identity, along with full internet access. Sounds like marketing-ware to me.

Looks like Words with Friends is going to be coming to Android, and will be compatible with the iOS version:

I just got this on my Android phone and between me, my husband and one of my 5 year olds, someone is always playing it. My husband has a Droid Eris which Angry Birds does not work on very well so even he has to steal my phone.

Drop7 runs pretty well on the Droid Eris. I tried the PS emulator and it was abysmally slow.

Leave Devil Alone
Pay Version

It is a Plants VS Zombies type game. Lots of stuff borrowed from PvZ but there are other elements like magic. Your rage meter fills and you can cast spells. I grabbed the free version yesterday and am enjoying it so far.

You can also try PvZ which is a complete rip-off of Plants vs Zombies and may upload personal data to the developer. May. (there is some question if it does)

Anyway, they're both a decent replacement for Plants VS Zombies and quite fun. Of the two Leave Devil Alone is my preference.

I was coming in to say that Leave Devil Alone rules.

Game Dev Story is out! If you haven't read anything about it on the iPhone, it's a neat financial sim that tasks you with running a game studio, hiring/firing/training staff, investing money to develop new games, and hopefully reaping a profit from sales. It's a very cute game, both in terms of the graphics (cartoony, retro isometric sprites) and the gameplay, with lots of tongue-in-cheek nods to the world of real-life game development.

The UI's not well designed for a touch-screen really, but that's the same as the iPhone version. It would've been nice if they'd taken the time to adapt it more to Android's capabilities (using the menu/back buttons and the directional pad to handle menu navigation, for instance), but it doesn't really get in the way of the gameplay.

I've got the PSX emulator and it is a little slow on the Nexus One. I'd say the N1 is the minimum specs you want to run it on. I just got it a few days ago so I haven't had a chance to tweak it, yet.

I too have run PSX on my N1 and it runs rather nicely, it seems to slow down with the sounds... if you turn off the sounds it runs better.

I have also a few times used my wii-more WITH classic controller to play some games I know it is cool...

I was thinking what I should do is make a shelf attachment for my wii-mote so I could set my phone above the buttons and hold it kinda like a DS. I haven't gotten around to making one yet I am willing to sign rights of the idea over assuming who ever decides to market it would send me one

Just got me a new Android phone. Just posting here to keep an eye on the thread, since the only thing I've played so far is Angry Birds...

I highly recommend Drop7, Sudoku Daily and any of the *oid emulators.

Game Dev Story is tiny, cute crack. I finally got a Game of the Year after sweeping all of the other categories multiple years in a row (year 16, with Cutepocalypse 9, a cute simulation game). It's released on my "Your God" system. My next goal for this playthrough is to get a 40/40 (best so far is a 38), and then I'll start again. Maybe I'll try to make the PC a viable platform.

Hm how is that?

I have OpenSudoku and it seems pretty great. Has multiple input methods, and lets me do all the marking of possible numbers in-square, just how I used to do with a pen.

Only complaint I have is there have been a couple puzzles that I am pretty sure aren't set up "properly" I've gotten to walls where I just couldn't definitively conclude what the next number was and had to guess to see what conflicted or didn't down the road. I was always under the assumption from early Sudoku puzzles I did, and from Brain Age where I used to play a ton, that you should never ever have to "guess" and should always be able to deduce a number. Am I crazy or right?

Seems like a really cool game, and one I've been waiting for, as those easy-but-hard life simulation games were always fun on my other cell phones when I was younger.

Anyone playing Dark Galaxy (Nova Wars)? I need some people in my alliance.

I'm a big fan of Andoku it has some no standard types of Sudoku and I like a bit of variety.

I got a 40/40, but I still didn't win the Grand prize! It was a sequel to my best-selling Animal Life game (a la Animal Crossing) on my home console, the Peggle64. I've just started on a second playthrough; maybe I'll have better luck with the Grand Prize this time.

Sounds interesting, I'm installing it but i may not be much good to you, lol.

I like the interface a lot, it's pretty smart about pencil marks and things. Plus it has a great built-in hint system that has multiple levels of hints and descriptions and examples of puzzle-solving techniques. If you want to know how you are supposed to figure out the next number, it will explain it pretty well. It also has an auto-pencil mark feature that is a big help. Also there are about 10 different difficulty levels, so that's pretty awesome.

On the down side, it's just plain original sudoku. None of the none standard puzzle types.

I've installed it, but I don't use Facebook so I'm making a new Marine. I am, as in every game - Ahrezmendi.

EA's got a sale going on on their Android games.

Anybody tried Need for Speed Shift? I'm really not that into turning the phone to drive, but for $.99 on a big publisher's game, I might try it.
