Mass Effect 3 Catch-All

Bad ass. Another Day 1 buy. 2011 is shaping up with plenty of goodness.

+1 + whatever deluxe stuff they want me to buy

Oh I hope it IS Sean Bean! That would make this game so much better somehow.

On a less sarcastic note, wasn't he kind of mediocre in Oblivion?

On a less Sean Beany note, that's a hell of a nice trailer. Really gives the impression that "sh*t got real" since the ME2 bug hunt, and opens up the possibility of a multiplayer mode.

Either 2011 is going to be the new 1998 or we are going to see about 20 games delayed. I mean just last night we learned that Uncharted 3, Mass Effect 3 AND Elder Scrolls V will be releasing in November. Meanwhile, Activision hasn't even shown what Call of Duty will be coming out to scare all the publishers into delaying games.

All that said, my reaction last night when I saw the Mass Effect 3 trailer:

Two new trailers watched today, Elder Scrolls and ME3. I'm going to have to start saving my pennies to enjoy all these games when they ship next year

Not to pick nits, but I wouldn't get carried away. There are a lot of great games coming, but nothing groundbreaking. That's what defined 1998.

I'm not really worried about who the voice actor is, I'm simply curious because it sounds so damn familiar and I can't place it.

EDIT: Is it Dominic Keating?

Since it took a gigantic fleet to kill the reaper in #1 and the krogan hordes are gone, there seems to be only one course of action to take on a whole fleet of reapers.

If Shepard punches out a Reaper and says "Welcome to Earf!", I will piss myself laughing.

I was confused when the trailer didn't end with "Finish the Fight!"

That aside, hooray for more Mass Effect. I strangely (considering I liked Dragon Age way more than ME2) have more confident internal hype expectations for this one than Dragon Age 2.

=))

Am I the only person that gets disappointed when a company's "brand new game!" just turns out to be a sequel?

And am I also the only person that finds it worrisome that Bioware seems intent on taking the already damaging 2 year development cycle for games and squashing it down to 1.5?

Bah.

On the whole, I'm sure I'll enjoy it and be hopelessly addicted for a while, but I'm just not too sold on Mass Effect. I was sold on Dragon Age, but the second one's changes have me worried.

Eeeh.

We all knew Mass Effect was going to be a trilogy though...

British friend of mine says it's Richard Armitage, who voiced Lucas North in Spooks, if that means anything to anyone.

When's ME2 Ultimate Edition coming out? I still haven't even played that, and my pile of shame is 17 games deep at this point.

I think everyone was speculating it would be a multiplayer ME game based on the job ads, and that it was likely 'too soon' for the third game.

In other news, Bioware will likely have published the entire trilogy in the time after HL2 episode 2 and before episode 3. Prove me wrong Valve!

In a few years' time you'll know him as Thorin Oakenshield.

Someone pointed out that since he plays an MI5 agent in Spooks, that would explain the SIS clue they gave in advance. The Clash clue was just London Calling. The atomic weight of iron and the temperature are still arguable. The atomic weight could just be "mass".

This.

Also, how the f*ck did the reapers get to the galaxy THAT fast? i am assuming ME3 is set 1-5 years ahead of ME2...
the ending of ME2 showed the ENTIRE galaxy...don't you have to be like...lightyears away to view the entire galaxy? i dont know =/

The Reapers built the relays; I assume they know how to travel about the galaxy fairly quickly.

The milky way is approximately 10^5 lightyears wide, so yes, you need to be quite far away to see all of it

Spoiler:

ME1 was about stopping the Reapers from even getting here so I'm sure they'll have a proper explanation for it, even though we all knew they had to be coming in ME3

Well shucks, if the reapers had ANY OTHER relay then what was the point of Harbinger doing his thing in ME2 when they could have just...magically teleported to the galaxy relay when harbinger lost control of the collectors huh!

Just me nitpicking on what looks like a plot hole.

The Collectors were supposed to collect human genetic material for the Reapers' purposes. Their work never precluded a Reaper invasion; the fact that they ultimately failed in making a human reaper probably just gave the Reaper's to start the actual invasion early. I really don't see the problem here. One would assume that Sovereign was also one of the Reapers waiting in deep space, and it had no problem making its way into the Milky Way to contact Saren and re-purpose the Geth.

Plus, no one can say that the Reapers you saw at the end of ME2 were the only Reapers. They may have represented a small fraction of the total Reaper fleet. Even if they have difficulty travelling long distances, a major part of their fleet could have been on its way towards Outer Rim relays since the attack on the Citadel, or even before then.

I think it's too early to say there are plot holes. Bioware hasn't even gotten a chance to tell the real story.

Kinda. But it's Mass Effect 3!

Damaging? I have faith that they won't release a broken product.

Didn't Bioware say that the final game would be easier to produce because your decisions won't carry over into a fourth game? I imagine reducing that kind of complexity and already having a major plot in mind would make the development process go by more quickly.

Agreed. Also keep in mind that the release time between ME1 and ME2 was 26 months. Since the trailer says "holiday 2011," I think it's safe to assume that ME3 will release in November 2011, which will be 22 months (4 months longer than 1.5 years) after ME2.

The real question is, when Shepherd orders a drink, will he (or she) take his helmet off before imbibing. Or is it still gonna be more Dark Helmet style?

Grubber788 wrote:

Nope. Sovereign was left behind to keep an eye on things and activate the Citadel when the time was right.

The short development cycle probably means that the game will be more like ME2-2, which I don't mind but I'm sure a lot of people will

I don't see the point in reinventing the wheel just for the sake of it, if the art was good in ME2 (which it was) then it doesn't suddenly become bad by itself. The only bad situation I can see is if they shamelessly reuse whole levels from ME2, and given that most levels in ME2 felt unique and interesting, and any art reuse between levels was done well enough that you had to look for it, I'm not too concerned about any reuse.

ME2 was head and shoulders above ME1 in terms of content, likely because they knew what they were making from the start rather than exploring a load of concepts that they had to condense down to a cohesive experience. ME1 reuse was embarrassing, as when you'd seen two bunkers you'd literally seen them all, I can't remember any prefab levels in ME2.

If those Reapers stomp on Forbidden Planet I'm going to be pissed.

I don't really care if they use assets, etc from ME2 (as Ubisoft did with AC2 and AC Brotherhood.) I just want them to have enough time to do the franchise justice and give us a great end to the trilogy. I think EA will realise that the game needs live up to or surpass the first two.

FTW?

Always the optimist, color me excited for this one. I need to replay the first two soon, been missing the universe.
