Moved from week 13 so we had a fresh thread in which to discuss.

Ok, this is a draft but I'm jutting down what I can before I forget it. Eventually, it will be polished enough end up in the by-laws for these are basically just notes at the moment...

*DRAFT* *DRAFT* *DRAFT*

GWJFFL has a long and documented history of recognizing %%% performers by promoting them to "higher tiers" ... Usually, spaces open up due to various reasons. With longevity comes stability. Occasionally, room has to be made in order to allow promotion. This is called relegation. The Wikipedia article on promotion and relegation says:

In many sports leagues around the world, promotion and relegation is a process that takes place at the end of each season. Through it, teams are transferred between divisions based on their performance that season. The best-ranked teams in each division are promoted to the next-highest division, and at the same time, the worst-ranked teams in the higher division are relegated to the lower division. This process may continue down through several levels, with teams being exchanged between levels 1 and 2, levels 2 and 3, levels 3 and 4, and so on. Sometimes, qualifying rounds are used to promote and relegate.

In GWJFFL, relegation is only activated when no spots in a higher tier come available through natural attrition.

The rules for promotion are:
X teams will be promoted. This is determined by %%%

In order to allow recognition and promotion, sometimes space must be made available.

The rules for relegation are:
Only as many teams will be relegated as is necessary to allow promotion according to the rules stated above. If spots for promotion are available through natural attrition, no relegation will occur. The order of relegation is determined by %%%

Exceptions:
1) Due to the way Fleaflicker works, the commissioner must own a team. Furthermore, since teams can not be shared by multiple owners, the commissioner can not "piggyback" on another team in order to perform his commissioner duties while having no team management duties. As such, the commissioner can not be relegated. %%%(Basically, if the commissioner needs to go down in order for someone else to come up and no other teams are eligible for relegation, the will be one less spot for promotion available that year. Compensation, if any, TBD.)%%%
2) %%%

Seriously, guys, this is very rough. Basically, an outline and notes that were floating around my head this morning. In summary, please understand that the process is much more about rewarding top performers in the "lower tiers" than it is about sending down those people who have had a bad year. Thanks.

Eke out a .05 point win and sneak into the playoffs after starting 2-6, I'll consider this year a non-bust in league 3.

Playoffs?!

FTFY. It's on the line, Rat Boy.

Disappointed to see that nightelfmohawk has let his name go gray in GWJFFL3. Hopefully he's still around since the season isn't done yet.

Hmm, I guess I should have been paying attention to the fact that rosters are locked. Damnit.

Feel free to double-check the tiebreakers, seeding, etc. If you see something squirrelly, bring it up ASAP.

Nothing squirrely here. Yes #5! I'mma ready to bring the pain to the playoffs with the lowest scoring team to make playoffs in the keeper league after that whole Westbrook debacle one year that screwed my highest scoring team in the league losing out to Old Man and his dumb depends.

Bitterness, party of one. Your table is ready.

I had the 2nd lowest PF in FFL3. And yet, if I hadn't lost that one game by 1.05 points... or if I just had played anyone but Nate Washington a couple weeks back against Grumps, I'd be in the playoffs. Crazy.

Wait, you're not going to join me? I don't understand.

As mentioned last week, rosters are locked in the post-season. You come with the ones that brung you.

* The numbers in the OP reflect FleaFlicker rank, not playoff seeds. I'll see if I can find some time to update my spreadsheet to handle the additional data of the post-season.

* How f*cked did I get in GJWFFL2? I didn't get in as the #5 team. The #7 team (Gumbie's Damnits) got in because he one the North division (aka the NFC West) and the #6 team (No More Room in Hell) beat me for the wildcard by head-to-head. I say again,

* You can find Tiebreaker explanations on the right side of the "Playoffs" page for your respective league. (Edit: I added the information to the OP for those who might be curious about other leagues' results but the formatting is much better on FF.)

The QOTW is, once again, relegation and promotion. See next post for some background. Feel free to discuss my plan (the next post hasn't been updated to include it yet).

Well I promised a decision so here it is: I'm going to keep it simple. Promotion happens based on year-end rankings and so relegation will do so as well. The top two teams have the option of going up. If and when necessary, the bottom two teams will do down.

Now for the spice:
1) Since the two participants of the "Super Bowl" are eligible for promotion, the two final teams in the consolation tournament (aka the "Toilet Bowl") earn immunity from relegation for the following year.
2) Should the commissioner be one of the bottom two teams, or should one of the bottom two teams earn immunity, the #10 team becomes at risk for relegation.
3) If the commissioner is one of the bottom three teams, AND one of the other bottom teams earns immunity, #9 becomes at risk for relegation.
4) If the commissioner is on of the bottom four teams and BOTH of the bottom teams make it to the toilet bowl, the #8 team is at risk for relegation.

Remember that relegation is not guaranteed. It will only be utilized should positions for promotion not come available through natural attrition.

If you finish #7, you may not make the playoffs, but you get a week 14 bye in the consolation tournament and you're pretty much safe from relegation.

Sounds fine to me.

I like it. No complaints. "Immunity" gives some meaning to the consolation bracket. Neat.

So, the bottom 4 non-commish teams are "relegation eligible". And everyone gets a fight-for-your-life situation with the consolation bracket.

I'll let you know how I feel on Tuesday.

Rat Boy wrote:

Same.

It still all hangs on people returning next August too right? If we don't end up with 33 people + Grumps, then we won't have 3 full leagues anyway. If anybody doesn't show in 1 or 2, there'd just be natural shift upwards to fill in gaps and new people filling in league 3 right?

I'm just hoping Mike Singletary comes to his senses before the opening kickoff.

Ok, I'll join you, but you're buying the first round.

I'm so glad I didn't start Randy Moss, not that I was thinking about it. Is Randy Moss one of the worst 1st round draft picks who was never injured? Good players get injured and can't play but for one's ability to just drop off a cliff like that.

Yeah, the non-injured Moss is pretty bad this year.

Since Flea Flicker only shows the teams in the playoffs on the scoreboard, how can I see the 'loser bracket'? I can see what I scored, but I have no idea who I'm trying to beat, or is just total points for the 3 playoff weeks?

All four games are shown on the scoreboard. Two playoff games, two consolation games.

LeapingGnome wrote:

You don't have a game on the scoreboard because you don't play this week.

Doh, I forgot about the first round byes! Thanks, I see that on the Playoffs page now.

Nevermind.

Wow, so far this has been a crazy bad week for me for the most part.
