SC2 Pro Tournament Discussion

Man....how does one beat Nestea? He tech switches to Ultralisk in game 1 and queues 10 immediately! I would crap my pants if I saw that many Ultralisk at one time hitting my base all of the sudden.

Thanks for the breakdown. Good to know there's a progression from the fan-ishness of Husky to more in-depth analysis with Day9.

I've always been terrible at RTS games. Age of Empires, Dawn of War, Warcraft III - I don't play enough to get good at multi-tasking, and without those skills, the game is difficult, i get frustrated, then I don't play enough...you see the cycle

Somehow, watching the Husky replays helped me figure out some basic terms (macro, micro, build order, counters) and it actually translated into me doing better in the single player campaign. I'll check out Day9 too and see if it goes over my head, and decide if I enjoy games for the breakdown as much as the casual cast.

I dislike Husky's style so tend to skip his games. Day9 has some awesome early instructional videos if you want to hop right in, as detailed in the SC2 multiplayer thread header

Watch Day9's Newbie Tuesday videos for education and learning the basics, and watch Funday Monday for pure entertainment.

No, I am gonna have to disagree with Thin_J here and say Day9 videos are anything BUT entertaining for new comers.

Pistols at dawn sir. Day9 is the most hilarious internet "celebrity" ever.

+1

Can we toss the "back by popular demand"? Was kinda hard to find this thread :P

ya sry, got a bit carried away

Current other piece of work this thread needs is a proper name, thoughts? I could simple calling it 'starcraft 2 pro tournament thread' but it the spirit of the very non traditional naming schemes that are thought up for GWJ threads, I think it deserves something a little less utilitarian.

added in a link to sc2casts.com with a small write up. If i miss a suggestion for a link somewhere in this thread feel free to PM me. I have a nasty habit of skimming and may miss things.

Just saw the first two games of NesTea vs Jys and then GOM crapped out on me

Not the most exciting start to Day 2. Very conservative Protoss versus a Terran who got behind early both games.

Whaaat? They're live right now? Usually doesn't start till 4 or 6am my time. *sigh*

Oh well, I guess I didn't really need to sleep tonight anyway.

During the Ro64, they have some double days. Today, Tomorrow and Thursday they have games at 1300 and 1900 KST (2300 EST and 500 EST)

Watch the interview with Sen from the Ro64 if you haven't yet. English -> Korean -> Chinese -> Korean -> English. It's pretty funny, especially since Sen apparently can speak English just fine.

Haypro about to play

*Edit*

I'm getting really sick of the Marine/SCV all-ins. Knew it was going to be popular after Boxer's games in season 2, but this is ridiculous.

HayprO just got owned. Not sure what he was thinking going 14 hatch against a Korean Terran when that 2 rax rush is all the rage now.

What the hell? Opening Roach on Scrap Station?

Probably about to lose again. First foreigner down.

And owned again. That was some very poor play from HayprO unfortunately.

Well that was disappointing. Off to bed for me. I'll have to wait for the VODs for the morning games.

Well this is not going so well for Haypro in Game 1...

Edit: Ouch. Ugly Game 2 as well.

I'm not really sure I'd recommend any of the games from tonight for their entertainment value. The NewDawn vs Rainbow series had maybe a bit more back and forth than the others, but it still wasn't great.

I can't get the live stream from GOM to work this morning. Gives me a cannot connect error

I feel like I am loading up F-Zero when the new GSL intro starts.

There were some good parts of the match:

Yes, quite handily.

How did Rain make his marines dance?

Fixed

GomTV has been stuttering like mad for me all day so I've only gotten to see a couple matches, but from the results it looked like a pretty ho-hum day.

Not this dance? You fail at Goodjer mimetics.

I refuse to mention those guys(*). Heretics, in the eyes of the Emprah!

Spoiler:

Sabre and Pawz(*). I love'em, and I wish zone locks would go the eff away and we could all be together playing macro/micro/what do I do/sh*t, now I'm dead

I hate you. Now it's stuck and I can't get it out.

I am really getting tired of T V Z. Every game seems to have the same marine rushes. Maybe it's because we are in the 64 player round but I hope things change up soon.

Me from earlier in the thread wrote:

Yep. Honestly, it's only partially the fault of the Terran players. You can lay a lot of it at the feet of the Zerg players who stubbornly refuse to do something other than 14 hatch against Terran. They keep doing it even though it's been proven over and over for weeks that it no longer works unless the Terran guy chooses to let you get away with it.

The Terrans scout the early expo and go straight for that Marine/SCV rush. There's almost $90k on the line. Do you blame them for going with what is almost a sure thing?
