Poker Night at the Inventory - Featuring The Heavy, Tycho, Strong Bad and Max

Pages

Holy downloadable crossover, Strong Badman:

"Prepare for a different kind of poker night in a very different kind of club. In Poker Night at the Inventory, you'll deal with Penny Arcade's clever, cunning Tycho, Team Fortress 2's hulking Heavy, Homestar Runner's self-proclaimed "awesome icon" Strong Bad and the hyperkinetic "rabbity-thing" from Sam & Max. These characters come together in ways some never thought possible, in a setting few would have predicted."

That sure is a strange mash-up. I won't say that I'm not intrigued.

For five bucks, who won't get it?

Have you no soul?

I have two souls... on the bottom of my shoes. And I love poker... and I'm probably not going to get this either.

I hate poker, and I have no soul. So it's double-negative, which means I'll probably get it.

I'm in for a pre-order, looks intriguing, I feel since its Telltale and I usually end up getting their packs during Steam sales that I should buy something from them as a pre-order as a thank you.

Plus, I do think it has the potential to be hilarious and a great casual game.

I already pre-ordered

I'll wait for p/reviews and community support. I'm indifferent to traditional card games.

You know you'd buy it if it gave you a TF2 hat. Maybe a nice poker visor? Or a stylish hat and sunglasses combo to hide your tells? (Your Telltale tells. Damn, it writes itself.)

Hmmm... It's just, odd... What's their target audiance here? "Casual" poker players who are un-casual enough to buy a dedicated poker game, and own one of these 5 games, and like the specific character chosen from one of those five games...?

I'd buy it, and I hate poker. But I love Sam & Max and the Heavy. Ooooh yeah!

If it can cut down on the time I spend trying to pick yet another fargin' Texas Hold'em chip out of the vacuum cleaner then I'm all for it.

This game will live and die on the strength they bring to characters. A weekly poker night is a great frame for character interaction - it's up to Telltale to write interactions that are strong and varied enough to carry the game.

What I would hope to see out of this is some sort of interactive "drama" that plays out across a series of poker games. I kind of doubt I am going to get that but I do think that would be pretty cool.

I love Sam & Max, Strongbad, and especially heavy weapons guy. Too bad I don't get a hat for pre-ordering but I'm still in for $5.

How awesome would it have been to be running around tf2 in a Strong Bad mexican wrestler mask?

Pre-ordered last week. I love poker, I love the characters, and I secretly hope they're going to include a TF2 hat anyway. How could they not?

Also, $4.49? So cheap. That's, like, 13.3 Starcraft IIs.

I think that they basically are in love with their work and in love with their characters - their quirky enough companies that I can imagine commercial considerations come second. They have the ready-made voice talent, plus it lets them sit down with friends at Valve and Penny Arcade. Do you think Tycho will be doing his own voice acting? That would be new.

I'm not sure whether I would be comfortable with Tycho even being voice acted. What if they just used dialog bubbles instead?

That seems more likely, given the price. But the game wouldn't have much value for me then.

Well, this is coming out this week. Anyone up to play some poker?

I'm pretty sure a mexican wrestling mask will turn up in TF2 some day, Strong Bad related or not.

I'm definitely planning to play some poker, but I probably won't be around to play with American goodjers. Stupid timezone stuff.

Cost is so low that the target audience is hobbyist or hardcore gamers with a casual interest in poker and an interest those characters. I'd imagine that it's a great cross marketing opportunity for the characters/games/sites included so it's unlikely to have cost much or anything to licence each character, poker games are not hard to implement so the overall cost to build is unlikely to be very great. Even if sales are modest it'll likely be a financial success.

Damn Steam. This was supposed to unlock at midnight pacific but it now says it will unlock in approximately seven hours. I stayed home from work to play this and now I can't (that's not really why I stayed home from work).

I AM REFUSING TO DO A JAVA LAB DUE TO MALAISE AND THIS IS THE THANKS I GET!

The only important question about this game is how easy are the tf2 items? I mean I don't even play poker and I bought this silly game.

Is that like "the vapours"? What are the treatments for hysterical 19th century women?

It probably involves a poultice of some sort.
