die2nite: Work together or the zombies will eat us!

Pages

Anyone check this out yet? It was mentioned at rockpapershotgun.

It's a browser-based game where you are dropped into a town with 39 other players, surrounded by hordes of zombies. You go out, explore the desert, and gather resources. Every night a zombie horde attacks and if they breach the defenses they attack (eat) players in their homes. The key decision is whether to spend resources upgrading the town for the good of all, or just on your house to fend off zombies.

There's a lot of interesting dynamics as you can steal from others, be banished for hoarding, start a revolt, etc. A 'game' lasts about 3-7 days real time and you simply are trying to last as long as possible. There's a lot more but it's really quite well polished.

I'm really eager to try it out, but I don't have a beta key. Anyone have one and want to invite me?

What was the name of the Urban dead clone we were playing a while ago?

It does sound pretty interesting, I hope we get a Goodjer into the beta so we can get some GWJ invites going.

Don't see anything about choosing a community though, which makes sense for the dynamic the developers are looking for. But means we won't get a GWJ town going unless I'm missing something.

New guys (i.e. me) don't get keys unfortunately.

Got mine from here.

edit: Let me clarify-- players who join up after the invite phase don't get any invites I was hoping to get a group going to cause some havoc!

In the name of honesty.

Thanks for the link, Chump, I just got a key from there as well.

Quarantine

Same thing as Chump got the key and messing around, it could be pretty fun, very play once a day type deal. Wish there was more to do per day so we'll see if i survive the night.

From poking around the rules section, it looks like if you become a hero (which involves in game actions, such as being the last survivor of a town), you can form a "coalition" of up to 5 people. Then, what happens is that once 1 member of a coalition joins a town, it pulls the other 4 people in as well.

I'll check again when the zombie rampage is over. Looks like being a Hero is far aways off, but I'll post when I become one and get a "coalition" going.

Ditto here send me a PM and i'll shoot you a key.

I have three invitation keys, took less than 24 hours for them to show up on my soul page. Other people who are in the beta might want to check to see if they got any.

I'll give them out to the first three people who want them.

Well things started dandy in my town, the Filthy Cliff of the Living Heads. Turned my hole in the ground into an actual tent. As other players bickered about what to build first, I grabbed my ration of water and headed out to scavenge for stuff. First thing I find, cyanide pills... great.

Forward a few days. I'm running a fever of some sort. Not sure if I got it from the curious slab of meat sitting just outside of town, or from the stump of my missing foot. The doctor says I have a 50% chance of surviving this night-- and every night onward.

Maybe I should spare my neighbours the trouble of tossing out my carcass.. maybe lose track of time in the desert, near gate closing time..

Looks like I got some, shoot me a PM

I'm not sold on the idea of having to do a lot of pub play in order to eventually be able to play with friends.

Interested in a beta key if peeps got them laying around tho.

Sent one out to you.

I wonder what the ratio of good towns against bad is. My first town is going really well, there are four old timers who are doing a pretty good job at organizing the town's labor and explaining things to new people like me. There has been only one thief, who got himself killed before we got enough votes to banish him. Though 9 people got themselves killed on the first night simply by not returning to town before the attack, so now we are a little short-handed.

I had a friend who I am no longer friends with for reasons that are unimportant who was telling me how he was going to make a game that sounds exactly like this. Like, exactly. It was the only game he's ever talked about wanting to make that sounded like a game I wanted to play, which was pretty exciting to him because he works for a company that doesn't pay him unless he makes a game that makes a profit. He hasn't made any money at all and he continues to work there because he's stupid. Anyway, this is not his game. Man, he'd be bummed if he ever found out.

But, yeah, I'm incredibly interested in this, and I usually hate social games because I'm a bastard.

The instructions are a bit sparse, but the concept is great. I'm in The Tempestuous School. No beta keys to distribute yet though.

This sounds totally interesting. Co-operation to survive zombies within my own timezone? Excellent and I got people on my Twitter list that would love this as well.

If there are still beta keys, I would love to try it out and help spread the love.

EDIT: Got a key from Chump. Currently at Misty Mansion, combing the desert...(we ain't found sh*t!)

I'll put my hand up for an invite key.

key please.

The concept is definitely intriguing.

I'd love a key if someone has an extra!

Since he's interested I want in.

/shakes fists at his losses in magic

Thanks Tannhauser!

RPS using a Dwarf Fortress analogy sold me.

edit: I PMed Cayne for a key, hopefully he'll have one left. If he doesn't, I'll try others in the list, and if nobody has any, I'll repost the public plea.

Edit: I now have a beta key in my grubby paws thanks to Chumpy! I'll check this out later when I get home.

*hand* Key for me?

I would love a key, I didn't like the MMO games as much, but I think that something like this that could be only goodjers sounds really cool.

As long as Prozac isn't allowed to have fire.

Thanks to Tannhauser for the key.

Now, is there somewhere you need to go to set your timezone? It was 3 PM when I jumped in and the timestamp next to my actions was saying it was 20:00.

Wow, this was surprisingly in depth for a browser game and pretty interesting. I'm looking forward to the zombie attack.

You're in my town MechaSlinky! I recognized the name right away. I'm "Dion" in the town "Sinkhole of the Unknown".
