Steam Holiday 2010 sales chatter

Pages

Thought I'd put up a thread to talk about the 2010 Steam holiday sales. These will probably begin soon, during Thanksgiving week, and then of course, the annual xmas sale madness.

My hopes, not in order:

Bejeweled 3 - not yet released, but it looks fun and I want it. Hoping for $10 on this one. Might not happen since it doesn't release till 12/7, and it will still be all shiny.

Fallout New Vegas - would a $25 price tag be too much to ask? $33.75 is more likely, but a guy can dream.

Dragon Age + Expansion for less than the expansion costs now. Why, because I have DA retail, and just need the expansion, but the Steam version expansion won't work with retail. This likely won't happen. But who knows, Valve has surprised us before.

I wanted Dungeon Defenders, but I think it's been delayed till 2011.

What do you want Santa Gabe to bring you this year?

update: Merphle's Awesome Steam Sale Spreadsheet

Ugh, like I need an excuse to make a wish list. I'm going to impulse buy the sh*t out what's to come.

I will be poor, but I will be happy!

...

I'm going to make a wish list.

Games on my wishlist I want to buy on the cheap.

Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth

The Ball

Stargate Resistance

EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously though, I think I should put X amount of dollars into my Steam Wallet so I don't overspend. It's like going to the casino man. You think your gonna be all rational then AHHHHHHHHH FLASHING LIGHTS! I HAVE NO TIME OR INCLINATION TO PLAY THAT GAME BUT DO YOU SEE THAT DEAL ZOMGPWNOMGWTFBBW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good idea to put something in writing...might help keep me from impulse buying myself into destitution.

Might.

Here's what I'll be looking for:

Batman: AA - $10 or less
Fallout 3: GOTY - $10, maybe 12 or so
Braid - $5 or less
Dragon Age: Origins - $10, maybe a little more
Civ 5 - $15...might be dreaming
If TF2 goes $5 or less, I may finally buy it, even though I have no way of playing multiplayer in my current situation.
Street Fighter 4 - $7.50 maybe, lock if it's $5
Dead Rising 2 - $15 or less
Mass Effect 2 - $10

I think Batman for $10 is a possibility, and Mass Effect 2 for $10 a likelihood, but Civ 5 for $15? That is indeed a dream I don't think we'll see that price till at least summer 2011, or xmas 2011.

I think Braid was $2.49 last year, so expect that again.

I would like Black Ops for the sp campaign, but I know that won't be in my price range till probably late next year.

I'm gonna double my backlog! I'm psyched!

Hopefuls: Dead Rising 2, TF2 (for friend), and pretty much everything else $20 or less.

Thanks for making this. Hopefully we can keep the 90,000 Steam deals from now til New Years from ruining the deals thread for everything else.

Games in 2010 (on steam) where I thought "I want that! Then suddenly remembering Holiday sales":

Recettear
Deathspank
PuzzleQuest2

All of these are kinda cheap already, so hoping for some ridiculously low prices.

I'm sure Ill buy other stuff which will never be played too.

Wishlist GO!

Civ 5 - $25 or less
Mafia II - $20 or less
Darksiders - $10 or less
Singularity - $10 or less
Metro 2033 - $10 or less
Blur - $10 or less
Alpha Protocol - $7.50 or less
Shank - $7.50 or less
Puzzle Quest 2 - $5 or less

We are some spoiled, entitled brats when it comes to the big Steam sale
If only a couple of those choices happen I'd be thrilled.

My prediction: Civ 5 & Fallout: NV for $29.99 each

FEAR - $2.50
Divinity 2: dragon knight saga - $20
Sacred 2 - $5
Call of Juarez - $5
The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena - $5

I'd really love to get Fallout New Vegas, but I think it sold too well for the cut to be significant at this point. Hopefully I'm wrong.
Alpha Protocol on the other hand...

I seem to recall getting yelled at for suggesting the creation of a similar thread last year... but I'm glad you made one.

Mostly hoping for cheap Civ 5 and Metro 2033 sub $10.

Ha! Everyone knows Steam Sales are not about playing the games!!!

Heck, I have over $200 (regularly priced) worth of titles that will probably never see the light of day!

Or get installed, get played once, annoy the living beejeeeeeezus out of me and never be heard from again.
I'm looking at you, Osmos.

I'll just post my breaking points for a whole bunch of games. If they reach these low-low prices I can't be held responsible for my actions.

Recettear - $10
Amnesia: TDD - $10
Mass Effect 2 - $10
Worms Reloaded - $5
Dragon Age: Origins - $10
Dead Rising 2 - $15
Fallout 3 GOTY - $15

and

MW2 - $20 (Please Santa Gabe! I... I'll be good!)

I'd say Dragon Age is a good bet because there's the sequel coming out.

I'll take Fallout: New Vegas for $25-30 and the DA:O expansion for $10.

I need to look at games that are not only cheap, but small downloads. So I'm watching for Recettear at $10 and I may pick up a few small indies and casual games that grab my attention.

Yep.

My only prediction is that I'll buy several games that I won't even have time to play for months.

I'm going to start putting 5 bucks a week into my steam wallet. Would love a blowout on: Metro 2033 and DCS-Black Shark

I'm looking for a good deal on anything pertaining to EU3. Don't let me down, valve!

I doubt you will be let down. They had EU3 specials last big sale.

Sub-$10 for King's Bounty: Crossworlds would be nice. Dunno if I'm really looking for anything other than that.

Weird.

Ah well. I'm sure I'll find plenty to buy anyway.

EDIT: Singularity cheap would also be nice, as would Prototype at ~$5. I'd like to replay that (or so he tells himself, as if he'll have time to replay games).

Looking for an actual deal on Cod:blops like $45 or less and Dead Space for less than $10.

That said, it's only a matter of time before Certis squashes this thread as he has done for the past two years and we will be forced to flood the deals thread and make all the console only people act really angry while we all know they're just jealous that we're paying a fraction of what they paid for a game.

I thought about that too, but not till after I'd posted this. I do remember a lot of complaints last year about the Steam sale "clogging up" the regular deals thread, because we weren't just listing the deals, but discussing the games, and people were saying "200 new posts and it's all steam talk! wah!"

And Deadmonkeys, good call on Worms Reloaded. I want that one too, and at $5 I'd jump right on it. King's Bounty: Crossworlds is another one I'd like at the right price.

Oh yeah, I think you'll have luck on Dead Space at that price. $7.50 or $10.00.

Don't forget the faction that doesn't want the deals thread devolving into a discussion of games!

(I do hope this thread doesn't get locked though)

Might I suggest people link to catch-alls, and politely redirect discussion.

That would be a great idea for the deals thread / if this gets locked. We would, of course have to do a little self-policing and all to keep it in check, but that's probably how things should go anyways so we can keep discussion of specific games focused and free-flowing.

Maybe, just maybe in the spirit of 1998, in a less bitter time before the long years of thread moderating created the ruthless web baron we know today, this one'll get a pass.

Naaaaah.

Alpha Protocol for $7.50. At least that's what I'm hoping. I've wanted to pick that up but I've passed on all the $10 console deals because I want the PC version.
