The Witcher 2 Catch-All

Damn, I REALLY need to get my arse in gear and finish the first one...

Spoiler:

Last I remember, I had just uncovered the identity of the friendly neighbourhood werewolf

The game is no longer confirmed for a console release: http://i.joystiq.com/2010/10/20/witc...

Three words: f*cking dammit donkey.

As they said in the article, it was never confirmed anyway. They've just clarified that at launch it's PC only.

As a PC fanboy, please forgive me for saying "Woohoo!" as it just makes me even more confident in the game not being modified in any way to make it an easier cross-platform release.

If anything it's "the shoe's on the other foot". They've said the engine was designed with the potential to easily go cross platform if they wanted, as opposed to the Aurora engine which was only cross platform in Bioware titles. In the past there's been plenty of console only titles developed on a cross platform engine such as unreal, yet the developer doesn't want to play.

Another good indication about it is that the developer has less to worry about coming up to release, such as certification on multiple platforms, etc. Hopefully the effort is going into content.

Forgiven. I'm comforted by the fact that it works the other way around 90% of the time.

If it shows up in previews both online and in print as "PC/360/PS3," (it has) someone at CDPR at some point told the press it was seeing a console release. "Potential console release" sounds a hell of a lot like the first game's console plans.

The existence of that article pretty much confirms that the public perception was that there would be a console port.

I can agree with that, at least.

I have no problem waiting for the game. I do have a problem waiting two years for the game only to have it cancelled for reasons unknown, especially after buying and being unable to play the PC version. I only have a laptop (a fairly powerful one, especially with regard to a 2007 release), so upgrading isn't an option.

I don't know the specifics of the new combat system, but unless they have made it 10 times more complicated than the last one I don't think there would be any compromise needed to make it work on the consoles.

I'm PC only ATM, so I'm happy I'm getting the game, unlike so many others. But I do want console gamers to get to experience the awesomeness of The Witcher.

For combat, the biggest influence they've named is Batman:AA.

What is combat like in that game? How are mechanics different from the first game?

Best explained with moving pictures.

It's in the same ballpark, but not quite as fluid as Batman given the spells, dodging and other bits that make it a bit less straight forward.

It's a WWF simulation? Geez... I hope not...

Though to be fair, 'The Witcher' would be an awesome WWE character.

Witcher 2 Collector's Edition has been announced. It's $130 but includes... a bust of Geralt?

I'm working my way through the first one now (just made it to Chapter 3), and loving it so far. I've gone from uninterested to very excited about the sequel.

That is crazy ridiculous. Maybe I would buy it if it was a blow up doll instead of a bust...

Also, release date set to May 17, 2011. But I want it now!

edit: how did I miss that tannhausser?

I hope the find a way of making some digital special edition with some of that, with PDF/extra downloads. I still wouldn't mind the wolf head pendant that was in the Eastern European Collection of TW1.

I think it important, very important, to note that this CE includes not 1, but 2 coins! That's 100% more coin than you'll find anywhere except the New Vegas CE.

I'm actually tempted by this, parts of it I think would be cool (dice, cards + game instructions, papercraft figures, soundtrack), but others I think are jacking the price up needlessly (bust of Geralt, stickers, art book). It's not until May of next year, so I may put in a pre-order just so I have one and can decide later if I want to keep it or not.

Don't ask me, I don't know!?

I will be strong. I will be strong. Come on, I resisted a Batarang, I can resist...

Like every other piece of Witcher 2 media I consume, that collector's edition business made me curse aloud. The stuff is so cool, the game looks amazing, and I am upset to be almost certain I will not be playing it.

The yahtzee set and cards look very cool, the bust though, Yikes! And the price, double Yikes!!

I'm glad we have a date on the game, and it's a good distance, not too far, not too soon and doesn't seem to be launching into the window of any other major titles.

One thing that I think is quite a good move is that there isn't some exclusive game content that locks away a chunk of the game, I can live without the sword fighting vest. The game is the game, and the collectors edition adds a load of extra stuff.

Damn, that's hot. Sadly, at that price I'm going to have a really hard time justifying it to my fiancee. Ah well, I will just have to get the regular edition I guess.

It would be good if they released a downloadable copy of things like the soundtrack from their website later on.

YES!

As much as I appreciate CEs, I think Bungie does it the right way by releasing 3 different versions. For those who don't care at all, just the game. For those who want a little bit (say a soundtrack, an artbook, or maybe a bonus DVD) you can get the mid-range LE. Those who want the kitchen sink as well, you can get the full on CE. I think more games should do this, have a mid-range version where for just an extra $10 I can get the soundtrack and bonus DVD, or something like that.

Personally, I would love to have everything in this except for the bust (I just don't have anywhere to put it), and the simple fact that the bust is included means I likely won't buy this CE.

Argh, so tempting. Sticking with Stalker CoP as my most ridiculous CE though, thats too much.

Sadly, I'll probably pony up the $130 for this. I own the first one, but never got around to finishing it. I guess I know what I'll be doing for my holiday break from college.
