Assassin's Creed Brotherhood

When Brotherhood was announced there was an overwhelming sense that it was a glorified expansion pack or stand-alone multiplayer made. Ubi has stated that it's not but has failed to really make that case. It's not surprising that it's not getting as much buzz as Assassin's Creed 2, which was way better than anyone was expecting and an all-around excellent game.

As for Desmond, I understand that they're building to something there but I honestly do not care about it yet. It's nothing but a layer between me and the "real" game. They can do some interesting things with the conceit (like hiding memories on structures and the like) but that doesn't mean I particularly want to run around in a warehouse (or ruins) with Desmond when I could be running around renaissance Italy with Ezio. Even in AC1 (when Desmond's story was a bit more interesting) it felt disjointed and unnecessary. Maybe that's the point.

I agree with this opinion.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed AC2 - but just can't muster any enthusiasm for AC Brotherhood.

AC2 was fun, for a while. I think what killed the mood for me was the DLC. I honestly felt like I had been robbed...

Really from everything I read about the dlc was that there was a good reason it was left out of the game.

Yeah, the AC2 DLC was a strange case. They cut those two sequences from the main game because they were the weakest, by far. Then with AC2 such a great success and the fans crying for more, they polished them up (a little) and put them out. I got the impression they were for people who wanted the full AC2 story rather than people who simply wanted an encore.

While I didn't particularly enjoy them, I feel like they fill some important gaps and flesh out some characters that otherwise seem thrown-in and poorly developed. Catherine Sforza is a cool character with a mouth that could strip paint (by which I mean she curses like sailor, not the, y'know, other thing).

Amazon said they shipped it, I'm just playing the waiting game at the moment. Also, Game Informer gave it a 93, so that's a start.

Kotaku has a review up. Apparently, they think it's hands-down better than AC2. Link Here.

EDIT: Says Kotaku "Assassin's Creed Brotherhood is the Best Assassin's Creed. Man, kinda eager to see how much of that is hyperbole.

Wow, I got inverse (backwards? reverse?) T'Hausrd.

Destructoid also has much acclaim, going with 9.5 for those who like their acclaim numerical.

In one instance, I sent a few after a group of three guards -- two assassins jumped down from a rooftop to pummel two guards while another leaped out of a mound of hay to briskly sever the jugular of the third. Assassins can also be killed in battle, and since they can be leveled up, customized visually, and even have names, losing one can sometimes be an emotional affair. I still am mourning the death of my very first protégé, Nico...

This sound f*cken sweet!

Lucy, voiced again by Veronica Mars actress Kristin Bell.

Huzzah!

Eurogamer seems to think this is one of the best games ever. I have too many games on the plate right now but the reviews are making this very hard to resist.

I'll pick it up at $30 price point like I did with AC2, because everyone was going crazy over that when it released as well. Oh, and because it'd just sit on the pile for 6 months...

Wow... I can't wait to play it. I'm gonna have to wait for the PC version, though.

I've gotta say, I love Kotaku's review format.

Gahhh it just came in a few minutes ago, but I have an 8 page paper to write for tomorrow. I hate my life.

Damn, I was hoping this would be mediocre so I'd feel better about waiting. Still, I'm going to hold off for a bit. I haven't felt much like gaming, and the price is already showing signs of dropping fast. Hell, Amazon's giving a $15 game coupon right now, and Kmart (and probably Amazon matching) will have it for $40 on black Friday. I might grab it then. We'll see.

I just picked it up at my local Kmart on my lunch break for 35 dollars because I had a 25 dollar off coupon from buying Black Ops last week. Also they gave me a 20 dollar coupon for buying this from them. Now I have to wait till 5 to go home and play it.

Who knew that Roman was an assassin... Cousin, let's go "bowling!"

Wow, I wasn't expecting this reaction to the game. Ubisoft is usually pretty good at selling their games (esp. to me), but Brotherhood was hardly on my radar. Now I feel like running to the local Walmart (shudder) to pick it up. I think this has bumped Fable III from my Christmas wishlist, if I can wait that long.

I know I probably need to play AC2 to understand AC2: Brotherhood, but do I need to FINISH AC 1 before I play AC2? I got maybe 2/3rds through AC 1 before I had to give it back to the friend who rented it from gamefly so I'm wondering if I need to bother or can jump right into AC2?

I'd say that depends on how much you enjoyed AC1. I really liked the end, but I think I'm in the minority. That said, nothing that gets revealed at the end of AC1 should be too disoriented to a game person ("Magic eyeballs reveal blood messages. Makes sense.").

No need really... It wouldn't hurt to check out youtube videos of the events that take place in modern times, though. I found that stuff to be very interesting. You definitely don't HAVE to know anything about the ending going into AC2. They provide a quick summary in the beginning of AC2 if I remember right. If you are pressed for time, AC1 is very grindy at times towards the end and you will feel like you are wasting your time. AC2 fixed that for the most part and Brotherhood seems to have gotten even better it seems.

Edit: Also, AC2 picks up in Modern times where AC1 leaves off, so you can probably piece together what happened without to much trouble and get sucked in pretty quick.

Game trailers gave it a 9. They reckon the missions can get a bit repetitive and that the multiplayer involves too much random chance but over all they liked it.

I may go into Brotherhood straight after 2. Looking forward to reading some Goodjer reactions. Stop playing Black Ops already and get into Brotherhood ;).

I loved, adored, and praised the original from start to finish, then completely lost interest a few hours into AC2. I am not sure why the second failed to reel me in, but I really want that experience again. Does this game bring back the original magic of the first?

I have to agree with a lot of the sentiments here, I really liked AC1 and AC2 but this one wasn't really even on my radar. I even thought it was a PSP game for a while. That being said, from everything I'm hearing this looks like one to add to my Gamefly queue.

I played enough SP to get past all the intros and tutorials and start the actual game (I think!). So far, it's more AC2, and I really like that. I suspect that MP is going to be goofy fun in a party and lame with pubbies. Anyone want to schedule a match for later this week?

I've gotta fly back to NYC for an interview this week, but I'll be back Friday night and also around all weekend to play. I would love to get some games in.

Giant Bomb Quick Look is a Go.

I figure allz y'allz are getting it for 360, just like a proper Templar!

Have fun in your party chat!

I'd figure you'd know by now, Captain, that I usually don't utilize that feature.

The deluge of positivity and GB's not-so-Quick Look have me teetering on the precipice of a purchase. I have 65 Gamestop bucks to kill, this may be the best way to spend it. Blarg!

I'd be up for some MP later this week if it winds up being any fun, Cap'n. IIRC there's a CoD-style upgrade system with perks and the like, yeah?

I don't know anything about MP beyond the most basic stuff. I can say that I played several hours of SP today and it's easily one of the best SP games I've played this year, so far. If the quality of SP holds up, and MP is any good at all, it might be a GOTY contender for me.
