Rachel Weisz for me is a must. Her talent as well is uncanny, and I'd love to see her take on a villainous role.

I would love to see Rachel Weisz as a villain.

Here, here.

Watch The Professional, as I recently have, and you'll realize her talent has been so horribly abused by assholes that don't know what to do with her.

Natalie Portman is badass. You know this woman could play a villain.

I read that the wrong way. Actually, it was a very, very right way, but I'm sure it wasn't the way you intended.

I don't know who Anne Hathaway is but Google presents a very compelling side-boob argument in her favor.

Mission accomplished.

I would be afraid to click that link if it was Mannishboy who linked it.

Just sayin'.

These are the laughs I need to get through the day. Thanks!

I don't even know who Blake Lively is. I don't watch Gossip Girl; is there anything else she's done?

2 Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants movies.

Haven't seen those either since I'm not a tween girl.

Didn't you see Feeank's epic thread?

She still looks good without the eyebrows.

Ah yes, The Great Armpit & No Eyebrows War of 2010. I remember it well.

EDIT: DAMNITDAMNITDAMNIT!

I really hope it's not catwoman. I hate catwoman. Such a boring character.

If Batman Begins is the beginning and Ra's Al Ghul is the man who makes him, who solidifies who he is as a crimefighter as well as the pessimist to his optimism of human nature and society and Scarecrow represents Bruce's fears and insecurities and Rachel his confidence and bravery.

If The Dark Knight is the middle and The Joker is his opposite throughout most of the film and Two-Face is the duality, the yin and yang that Batman has to become the opposite of by the end of the film, the yang and yin.

What is the logical themes and tropes to the last movie?

The Dark Knight Rises seems to invoke the idea of the phoenix. A rebirth.

I've been thinking about this actually. The logical bookend to the first film would definitely have to involve Talia al Ghul, and the rumors about Rachel Weisz, Natalie Portman, and Anne Hathaway (hopefully not) make me think Talia is slowly becoming a reality as all three actresses definitely fit the traditional depiction of the character. Seems to make sense that Ra's organization wouldn't have crumbled and if Nolan and Goyer go back to the comics as source material i can see them using the Bane character to continue to mirror Bruce Wayne. Bane is not supposed to be the stupid muscular brute that he's been mistakenly stereotyped as. He should be as well read, clever, and well trained as Batman but without Bruce's moral compass which makes him brutal.

From the end of the Dark Knight they've set up Batman to maybe go after villains but away from the public eye (especially after the high profile death of Harvey Dent and the fight with the Joker). Maybe they could pick up a few years later, after Batman has been going after Ra's organization and Bane has slowly been climbing into prominence within the League of Assassins...

thoughts?

Blake Lively? Sure, she's hot as hell, but I'm not convinced. Resumé is what? The Town and Gossip Girl? Upcoming Green Lantern? I don't know...

After seeing the Town I'm willing to trust Nolan if Lively ends up in the film. She pulled off a pretty tough character in that movie. There's plenty of otherwise good actresses that have tried to play a total disaster of a person like that and failed miserably.

I'll trust Chris Nolan, but for some reason I'm much more apprehensive about this movie that TDK. I like most of the actresses he mentioned, but if he were to have Catwoman I'd really like to see less of an A lister, but someone who could still pull off the role, like Tricia Helfer.

Just to recap, has Nolan said how many Batman films he wants to do? Just a trilogy?

Yup, he's said that this third one is the last one for him.

Or he might just have an erection.

Given the list of women in the movie, can you blame him though?

I think Poison Ivy wouldn't be human enough for this batman.

IIRC, isn't Batman viewed as a villain in Gotham at the end of The Dark Knight? Combined with Nolan's expressing that the third movie will close out his story, that'll be an interesting place to start. That's the whole catch to "Batman Rising"...as in from the bottom. The People don't just forgive a fallen hero, he has to save them from some greater evil in order to earn back trust. Combine that with the fact that, as others have mentioned, Nolan's Gotham contains villains relatively grounded in our reality. I'm thinking that we're looking at Black Mask.

@bishopRS interesting ideas...Batman earning back the trust of the people of Gotham. It might be too Harvey Dent-ish but the villain could be someone who appears to be good in the eyes of the public in a parallel to Batman's "Gotham villain"

I can see Natalie Portman really stretching to give an interesting character performance. I've heard there are rumors she is in consideration as Lois Lane in the new Zack Snyder/Chris Nolan Superman film though...

Anne Hathaway as Catwoman, Tom Hardy as Bane.

News!

The speculation can end about one of the two big female roles in Christopher Nolan‘s third Batman film. Anne Hathaway has been cast as Selina Kyle, whose alter ego is Catwoman, in The Dark Knight Rises.

Additionally, we know the villain role Tom Hardy will play: Bane.
