The Dark Knight Rises Catch-All

What the hell is a Catwo?

If Halle Berry did Catwoman again but this time showed her tits, she might win another Oscar.

I must have missed her wining for Swordfish.

She was topless in that one? I always managed to avoid it.

I'm putting my money on another two-fer in the villain department. I think Selina Kyle/Catwoman is a good choice for many of the reasons already stated, and also because she could be an interesting "rebound" from Rachael. For the second villain, if it's not Two-Face (he could be dead, but maybe not), I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that it may be:

Penguin...

Kraint wrote:

I think Penguin could work really well if they just make him a bad ass in a tux. Basically a psychotic and evil James Bond. The problem is that it might play out as a simple good versus evil scenario or it ends up going the Joker route. Making the villain a love interest adds something new to the story. Not only that, but the series needs a good female character. Gyllenhaal did a great job in Dark Knight, but the character has not changed through the series at all. She is very static. It makes her uninteresting. Catwoman could actually have an interesting arc.

I may have skimmed here, but is it confirmed that Robin will not show up in a Nolan film, or is that just wishful thinking on my part?

Did you see Inception? Joseph Gordon-Levitt looks like Heath Ledger's clone.

A copyCat Joker! Genius!

He definitely has the looks and the talent, but Heath Ledger gave a virtuoso performance. He single-handedly carried the movie. It would be a very hard act to follow. If anyone can do it, though, it is Joseph Gordan-Levitt.

He ran circles around Leo in Inception, despite the smaller role. He also has that "presence" on screen that only a few actors have (usually older actors than him).

Funny to think he's the same guy from 3rd Rock. I'd love to see him do the Joker, but from what I've read Nolan is pretty opposed.

Jayhawker wrote:

I'm not sure why it is so irritating to some people. It's not like he's doing a Jar Jar or anything.

I didn't mind until I was pointed out, now it's inescapably annoying to me. It makes him sound enraged all the time and is just so abrasive compared to the work Kevin Conroy has done.

The only two reasons that movie is worth watching.

Robin is in. To be played by Zach Galifianakis.

Just sayin'.

She can be my Catwoman allright.

Perhaps you meant to say "She can poison my ivy", or something to that effect.

You're still a sonofaFemale Doggo, and I am too for falling for that again.

On Batman, I think Nolan set him up as the fallen hero exceptionally well. The whole bit with Harvey dying as Gotham's White Knight to Bruce's Dark Knight was fantastic, and I will be pissed if they cheapen that by bringing him back for the third movie in *any* capacity.

As for villains, I don't feel like there are any mainstream villians left I'd like to see, except maybe a Catwoman. No idea who I'd like to see in that suit, but Nolan's been good about casing so far(Heath Ledger as Joker was sheer freaking brilliance, he really did carry the movie) so I'm not terribly concerned about who the villain will be or who will be playing him/her/it.

They do look similar, and for sure Gordan-Levitt did a great job in Inception, but for similar looks and proven monster acting chops, I think Terry Gilliam had the right idea:

That said, I'd be surprised to see Joker come back, except for perhaps a minor appearance if Nolan followed the "Two-Face as Joker's pawn" line. For one, the end of Dark Knight seemed like a good place to put the bookmark for that character, and two, I think that role is now so widely identified as Ledger's legacy that it would be a bit off-putting to try to bring the character back.

Count me in with the Two-Face camp. I thought Aaron Eckhart did a great job with the role, and there was certainly plenty more to mine out of that character.

I'm still voting for Poison Ivy.

Not a fan of the title...seems little effort went into it, and a little expected, but, it's just the title.

I'm a huge fan of what Nolan has created. I wasn't turned off like many with the idea of the Riddler, but since he's out, I don't know how Tom Hardy's gonna play. I'm not too well versed in the Batman Universe.

My two cents though:

If it's Catwoman, please, PLEASE let it be either Kate Beckinsale or Emily Blunt. Love them.

EMILY BLUNT

KATE BECKINSALE

And, it's not gonna happen, but I would've loved to see Nolan's take on Harley Quinn, and if Heathe was still around, I think that's what would've happened. Having said that, perfect casting? Rachel McAdams.

RACHEL MCADAMS

I mean, just look at those dimples, that huge smile, those immense eyes. It's PERFECT...

Umm....one of the pics above got erased somehow...

Just throwing that Rachel McAdams would be a perfect Harley Quinn, if it ever happened...

EDIT: Still not appearing...it did at one point. Anyhow...I'll stop posting. Sowwy...

A few things:

1) I think Nolan mentioned he didn't want to retread on villains used in previous films too much, which is why he used Rhas in the first one. You can't avoid using Joker or Two Face, but I think in the end he wanted to avoid Penguin, Poison Ivy and Mr. Freeze specifically. Clearly The Riddler as well.

I dunno. That he reused Two Face does go for something.

2) In truth, I hate how the film didn't do Scarecrow justice. I loved how he was handled in Batman: Arkham Asylum and am hoping we can get a new variation of him done like that. Completely twisted and obsessed with Batman's fears.

3) Dude. Dude. DUDE! Shut up. DUDE! Catwoman AND Talia Al'Ghul in the SAME FRIGGIN' MOVIE. It would be hot. It would be like a three-way. An all mammal three way.

4) Ron Perlman for Clayface!

5) Am I the only one that actually found Harvey Dent's story-line to be much more interesting than that of Batman OR The Joker in The Dark Knight? Aside from the bullsh*t with Commissioner Gordon at the end and his death, everything Harvey Dent/Two Face was perfect. If anything he should have gone off the radar instead of trying to tie up his loose end at the end of the film.

6) I seem to be the only person that would also think Charlize Theron would make a good Catwoman.

Jeez, only two hard facts exist about this movie and we get this many posts?

Yoreel wrote:

I would say the above nothing of Catwoman and the Penguin by DrSugarDaddy is fantastic except that it is too close to Batman Returns for me. Sure you wouldn't have the Tim Burton craziness, or Danny Devito eating scenery but it is pretty close to old Copperpot getting back at the ritchies that flushed him into the sewers.

It's funny...I'm such an narrow-minded old nerd that I didn't even think about the fact that this was the same villain lineup as Burton's Returns. I hated the Burton movies, so I guess I just purged the abominations from my mind.

Given that this lineup has been done before, I have to agree that it would be unlikely that Nolan would re-do it.

Rat Boy wrote:

We're nerds. You expect any less?

I like DrSugardaddy's theory on Penguin. As he said, played more realistically and much less camp or true to the comic it has a lot of potential.

DrSugardaddy wrote:

Chester Cobblepot/Penguin is Bruce Wayne/Batman gone wrong: both are extremely intelligent, driven billionaires who use gadgets and unusual personae to press an agenda that each is very passionate about.

...imagine a Gotham city where Batman is still up to his old tricks, but is limited more than ever given that he's now GPD's public enemy number 1. As a result, he's spending more time than ever as Bruce Wayne and struggling to make his peace with this change (riffing on the "Bruce Wayne is the mask" theme from the first movie). In the midst of this, both Catwoman and Chester Cobblepot show up in Bruce's personal life, the former as a potential love interest/fellow stalker-of-things-in-the-night and the latter as a member of the billionaire peerage--perhaps a competitor to Wayne Enterprises--but who is also secretly an accomplished thief and robber baron. Bruce gets along well with both of them, and given his alienation from society, latches on to them in a way that starts to lead him down darker roads. With Catwoman, this could take the form of the seductiveness of "if everyone treats you as a criminal anyway, you might as well cross the line sometimes." With Cobblepot, this may be something that occurs primarily in personal life, such as having to engage in corrupt business practices to keep Wayne Enterprises afloat. At some point in the story, Bruce/Batman hits bottom, so to speak

Bruce already alienated himself from Lucius Fox in Dark Knight, and that might not be repairable, or at least it could come up again. Some little punk figured out the whole Bruce/Batman persona - maybe he gets in with Cobblepot and there is a serious risk to Batman's identity being revealed. Scarecrow was done in a pretty realistic version - Penguin could be too. All they have to do is make some reference to him in a tux as "wearing a penguin suit" and we're done. No need for funny physical features etc.

A LOT could come of this.

Oh, and Catwoman? Kexx has it with Kate Beckinsale. She totally has the chops and the looks to pull off both Selina and Catwoman, we know she can rock the skintight suit

IMAGE(http://img824.imageshack.us/img824/9903/katebeckinsaleunderworl.jpg)

(and it has already been proposed by some more industrious than me):

Odds are the movie somehow has to include Batman's "redemption" in the eyes of the public, which means another villain doing things on a scale where lots of people are at risk. Has villainy on that scale ever really been Catwoman's M.O.? Or The Penguin's?

YES.

I hope it is Catwoman as played by Evangeline Lilly just so I can a forum meltdown.

As much as I would love to see a dark and insane Clayface running rampant in Gotham, I noticed this earlier and was filled with foreboding. Ah well, maybe Nolan will go for broke and give us Croc and Man-Bat in the same picture.

The problem with Clayface is pretty much the same issue as villains like Mr. Freeze and Killer Croc. Too implausible for Nolan's touch. Which is a damn shame because, as I said, Ron Perlman. It's not like he doesn't LOOK the part of someone that would be all huge and bad ass or anything.

I'd rather see Talia than Catwoman, to be honest, but I think it would be harder to build a movie off the sort of relationship Batman and Talia had. Plus, Catwoman is more recognizable. A villain that everyone knew wasn't essential to Batman Begins because the focus was Bruce Wayne, but by now audiences are going to want to see characters they know (especially after seeing Nolan's interpretation of Joker).

Ron Pearlman as Clayface would be awesome! I don't see it happening, but it would be cool.

After watching Under the Red Hood last night ( on Netflix instant watch, and totally awesome), I think we should see the Black Mask come into play. We have had Marcone and his thugs in the first two movies, and a new thug coming out to threaten the status quo could really be interesting. Maybe force Batman to work with the lesser of two evils (Marcone) in order to take down Black mask, but in turn, pushing him further into the territory of criminal in the eyes of Gotham's citizens. You could throw Catwoman in there too, making her have a grudge against the Black Mask, pitting her and Batman against one another while trying to take Black Mask down in their own special way.

Tagged for the future.. I'm not too up on the non-mainstream villains, but at this point, I trust Nolan and his team.

I don't see him doing Clayface because he was sorta the leading man type and Perlman is a little gruff (perfect for the clayface part, though). I sure would love to see Clayface in a movie.

I just watched Red Hood recently too. It was so fun to see some more Bruce Timm stuff. I can never get enough of that.

OOOOOOooooOOOOooooooHHHHHhhhhhHHHHHH!!!!!!!

I'm melting down right here.

Get your red hot rumors here! First, Charlize Theron as Detective Sarah Essen, made famous in Frank Miller's Batman: Year One, the graphic novel that heavily inspired both of Nolan's Bat films so far. Second, we have two actresses in the running for Julie Madison, a reimagined version appearing recently in the Matt Wagner graphic novels Batman and the Monster Men and Batman and the Mad Monk. But, instead of it hinting at Clayface, based on the first of the two Wagner books, I think it hints at Hugo Strange being the villain.

Given his reluctance to go with any super-powered villains, I think Strange is a great choice. I'm curious what exactly the good doctor's mad science of choice could be in this film.
