Rock Band 3 looks pretty awesome!

Oh man, Hackintosh time.

Yeah Rock Band is the one game my wife is the enabler for. It's great. :D

Same here. I was talking to her earlier about the game and said that I was on the fence about getting the keyboard. Her response: "We HAVE to get the keyboard. I might be awesome at it and I don't even know yet!"

Unfortunately, no bundle for the PS3 so I have the game preordered and she will pick up the keyboard on her way home on Tuesday. I'm way too excited for this game.

My wife had no interest in plastic instrument coming into out house until a friend of ours brought RB over during t he holidays a couple years ago. About a week or two later my wife was saying, "I want to play drums again. Can we get RB?"

I'm up in the air about when we will pick up RB3. Honestly, it's been awhile since we played much RB, so there isn't a huge need for it right now. It would make for a great Christmas present for out daughter. But then, she has been self-learning the keyboard lately, to the point she is playing some songs in her combo band at a school. I could see hooking her keyboard up for this game. I haven't really used the midi stuff before, but this would be a fun way to give her some other ways to learn keyboard.

Of course, Apple's new iLife '11 has a similar function in GarageBand '11 for both guitar and keyboard.

The Harmonix line is that the mustang is the entry level pro guitar. You don't need to tune it, or develop calluses to use it. I was planning on buying the mustang so I can play pro guitar right away, and then saving up for the squier. The Harmonix guy at the Eurogamer Expo said it was "early 2011", but that could be May for all we know. Obviously this is not efficient use of money, but Rock Band has always sort of bypassed all of my brain centres for fiscal prudence.

I have that problem, too, but since I'm interested in Pro Mode for all the instruments I'll just concentrate on Pro mode for the other instruments and wait for the Squier for my guitar. I preordered the keyboard+game bundle. I already have the cymbals and all the mics. I need to pick up a stand for that keyboard, now that I think about it.

...Being able to play guitar/bass parts with the keyboard is a decent sop while the catalogue is thin. I'm trying to think of what existing songs already chart significant piano parts for the guitar, and will obviously be better served with the keyboard, and I've come up with:

"Crocodile Rock" (LRB)
"Somebody to Love" (DLC)

Anybody think of any others?

.

You Never Give Me Your Money (Beatles - DLC?)

I've already picked up the RB3 triple cymbal add-on for my Beatles edition drums, and I'm expecting to pick up the, Keyboard and game on launch day, though I did not pre-order. Why does the Mustang not come out until November? Was there some sort of delay on MadCatz end?

I bought the MadCatz double cymbal add-on (OMG what does it mean) ages ago, does anyone know if it's going to be possible to buy a single cymbal?

God, I can not wait for Rock Band 3 next week, to say nothing of playing it with friends.

I'm just going to say right now, RB3 at next year's Rabbitcon is going to be LEGEN

... wait for it ...

*waits*

*looks at watch*

...

The multiplayer improvements alone are virtually worth the price of admission. It was kind of a pain getting multiplayer going in RB2, and if someone disconnected, poof, there went the whole band. This should be infinitely better.

Anyone know how the importing of RB1, RB2, and DLC tracks will work? Chaz?

Can't hold it, I'm too intolerant!

DARY!

LEGENDARY!

I was kinda hoping you'd hold it until rabbitcon next year.

Well, that didn't take long. Thanks a bunch, you filthy enablers.

Ok, so who's up for Tuesday night Rock Band?!

The line forms here!

If you imported RB1 tracks into RB2, they're already DLC. I presume it will work the same way for RB2 -> RB3 (convert on-disc tracks to DLC).

Once they're DLC, they're accessible by everything AFAIK, you don't "import" them again.

(For example, much of my DLC automatically showed up in Lego Rock Band without having to do anything).

I probably won't get this day 1 unless there is a way to import all previous Rock Band incarnations (including Beatles) into this. Switching discs to play Beatles' songs takes the party out of its groove.

I'm buying this eventually regardless.

I just wanted to say that I did preorder this game and eagerly await its arrival.

I have no willpower.

That's my experience, except for Beatles and Green Day. There's no way to get Beatles into the regular lists with RGB2 (and not for RB3 AFAIK). Green Day was hit or miss; I think it might have depended if it was already in the DLC list.

And I assume us Wii owners are screwed as usual for importing.

I hope they eventually fix this. The Wii supports 32GB SD cards now, so it could theoretically be crammed in. There's already fully functioning DLC.

Was there ever an explanation of why PS3 isn't getting a bundle? All I saw was some vague mumbling about territorial rights.

I'm guessing there isn't cross-platform compatibility between 360 and PS3, is there..

Apparently they are!

Nintendo's Rock Band 3 page

as well as support for existing Rock Band tracks (Rock Band and Rock Band 2 discs, downloaded songs, track packs, AC/DC Live: Rock Band Track Pack, LEGO Rock Band and Green Day: Rock Band).

Think I only have an 8gb sd card in the Wii right now. Might need to splurge for a 32, and finally pick up some track packs. I never bothered because not importing seemed pretty stupid.

WOOT!

Time to gather some cash for some new memory.

Did you know that 25% of women wish their man had better memory? The other 75% just wish he had more RAM.

Kotaku's review is up.

"The people who made music games great have delivered their best game yet."

"Rock Band 3 puts the challenge into overdrive, with a legitimate music instruction tool for wannabe musicians looking to learn the fundamentals (or their favorite songs). Add keyboards, vocal harmonies and a strong, diverse soundtrack and we're ready to certify this one double platinum."

Billy Joel is coming to RB3:

"Ten tracks from Billy Joel will be coming to Rock Band 3 starting in December, including "Big Shot," "Captain Jack," "It's Still Rock N Roll to Me," "Movin' Out," "Only The Good Die Young," "Piano Man," "Pressure," "Say Goodbye to Hollywood," "The Entertainer," and "The Stranger." A Pro Keys option will be available for each song, but don't count on a harmonica peripheral hitting before "Piano Man" arrives."

What are you guys naming your band?

I'm contemplating a nerdy Starcraft II reference like "Six Pool" but not entirely satisfied with it.

It definitely sounds better than "Fourteen Hatch"

Feel free to use any of the following:
"Thor Drop"
"Siege Mode"
"Infested Terrans"
"In the service of the Queen of Blades"
"For Aiur"

I've used the same name in all of the Rock Band games, so I'll most likely go back to it: Baltimore Jack and the Never-Came-Backs.
