Bay Area: HedgeCon 2010 - Oct 23

Me too! I'm definitely coming.

And you haven't PM'ed me!

What about Mightymoosequack and gtnissanfan, and some others whose names escape me?

edit: Oh and you are going to have a blizzcon feed going on right? Between the 20 of us, we should be able to scrounge up the $40-50 for the ppv.

C'mon guys! I'll spring for at least $10-15 of the blizzcon ppv...

Speculation is that they are announcing the 5th and final d3 class.

Cataclysm news. Starcraft 2 protoss and zerg campaign news.

And...

There is always the potential for the announcement of the yet to be announced MMO.

I think I've already bought a pass for the stream. I'll check. We can just use that.

Also: Holy jeez I cannot wait.

Also: Yes, I already bought a Blizzcon streaming pass. So that's happening.

I will be there with bells on. Alas with a +0. That's an AC bonus right? hehe.

Edit: I would need to crash there, if I go to sleep. HA HA! Seriously I have a long drive.

Sweet!

Do you want to be reimbursed some for it? Like I said, I'll throw in ~$10...

And yes, I cannot believe it is 3 days away!

Also: I am bringing newcastle!

Also: I am going to try and drive our 4-5 seater such that should some east bayers near me need a ride home after BART shuts down at 12-12:30

Also: I have to admit that next day gwjer breakfast sounds like a blast!

LATEST UPDATE:

We're coming up on the event of a lifetime! Or at least a passable Saturday afternoon/evening.

Start Time: 1 PM

If you need to arrange a ride from public transportation, post here and/or PM me and we'll get you taken care of.

a) BART from Berkely to Millbrae is ~1 hour. I can shuttle you from there to my home (~15 min door-to-door). Schedule.

b) CalTrain from SF runs ~45 minutes. The San Carlos station is about 1 mile away, and we'll pick you up/drop you off. Schedule.

I believe I've PMed all of the confirmed people with my details. I am going to be crushed under work for the next few days, so advanced apologies if I don't get back to this thread very quickly. If you have my personal details, use those if you need to get a hold of me. If you still need my address/cell, PM me and I'll get it to you as soon as I see it.

Looking forward to seeing everyone Saturday!

*quick break from work to post*

Awesome! Glad you can make it. I've PMed you the details. We'll sort out the sleeping arrangements as people pass out, but we'll find a way to accommodate everyone.

This is looking like it's gonna be epic. Next year, I think I need a bigger house! And a larger fridge!

Good question. If someone wants to reach out to them that would be great.

Demiurge wrote:

We will stream whatever, however. In addition to gaming entertainment, we have the Giants game 6, Blizzcon stream, the live conf. call, and other S&T attendees wanting to skype with you bunch of miscreants.

I hope your Internet connection is better than the one at my office, or we're boned.

Seriously, new day job. Would it kill you to upgrade the tubes? Daddy needs to stream the Apple keynote on his phone while, er, working.

T-minus 13 days and counting. It's time to get real, yo.

I need to get some sense of how many people to provide for, how many chairs to acquire, etc. Feel free to bring any friends, spouses, significant others, bosom buddies, amorous strangers, wee nippers, and the like.

I will provide the following:

* Board Games (see link in the OP for listing + Defender's of the Realm)
* Sodas of many stripes and colors
* Beers of many stripes and colors
* + a handful of bottles of Scotch, Whiskey, Gin, etc.
* Snacks (chips, veggies, cookies, pita + hummus, nibbles, etc.)
* Rock Band 1&2, Beatles, etc. (2 wireless guitars, Ion Drum kit, 1 mic)

Feel free to bring anything game-wise, food-wise or drink-wise.

Given the apparent size of the gathering, I don't think I'll be able to cook dinner, so we'll likely order out a mass of food (pizzas, burritos, and/or other delights).

I'm going to push it out to 1:00 PM start time. Rock Band will probably come out around dinner time. We'll end whenever we end.

To get a handle on this, can folks please reply here or PM me directly the following:

1. Confirmation you are coming + # of any guests.
I have included a list of the folks whom I believe confirmed yes below. IF THIS IS WRONG, LET ME KNOW!

2. How are you getting to my place.
Are you taking public transportation? Need a ride from Millbrae Bart (~15-20 minutes depending on traffic) or San Carlos Train Station (5 mins)? Let me know around what time, so we can plan drivers. I can hold 4 others in 1 trip. Depending on the need, I may recruit my wife and friends to assist.

3. special needs (food/drink wise)

4. Will you need a place to stay?

I will PM every attendee with my details (address, phone, etc)

Lastly, there is a rumor that the podcast will be recorded live, so I imagine we can dial into that if that's a go. If there is anything special you need for that Cory, let me know.

There is IT software out there that dynamically clips bandwidth for things like itunes, youtube, any flash video, etc.

...just sayin

And you're suggesting that my company, who just moved into our office and had to ask ME to set up the wireless router and printers, is secretly doing this?

Nope, the sad truth is that we're on a 1mb T1 right now. Getting the real net setup in November.

/offtopic

LOL

Sorry for the tangent.

Yay Gwjer soiree!

LET'S GO GIANTS...so I'm not distracted on Saturday.

Sounds like it'll be chilly this weekend. Bring extra hard liquor to warm you up!

This message brought to you by my problem drinking and the letter U.

I will be there. I will probably require shuttle service from the BART station.

Time to decide what board games to bring! Here's what I'm thinking:

Age of Steam
Thunderstone (+ expansion)
Puzzle Strike
Zaubercocktail (7 player Pit-like game, with lots of shouting; perfect for when smashed)
Battlestar Galactica (no expansion, if anyone has that)
A Game of Thrones (+ expansions)
Mu & Lots More
Tichu

If anyone is down for it, I'd love to get in a game of Game of Thrones (with or without the expansions). And I wished I'd had time to learn Dune, since I've yet to play it.

Hopefully I didn't miss it earlier, have any fellow public transit jockeys mentioned what time they plan to arrive via BART/Caltrain? I'm up to take either and I figure it would be easier on everyone if we condensed ourselves into a minimal array of huddled masses.

Command & Colors: Ancients? It's less intensive than BSG, at least.

Does anyone already have a copy of Castle Ravenloft? I'm pretty sure I'm buying one otherwise.

WOW. We're at 24-26 people now. Kinda stunned... I wasn't expecting such an incredible turnout!

The giants are going to game 6 on Sat, so that will be on. Don't know much about the BlizzCon streaming (times, method, etc.) but Demiurge has the details and we'll do that too. I think the Conf Call is going live around 5:30 PDT, so plan on that too. We'll eat after.

I have Ravenloft already.

It sounds like 3 people are bringing Battlestar Galactica. Bunch of cylon traitor wannabes.

I haven't played AGOT in about 6 years (used to own it). AWESOME game and would love to play again. I have a feeling I'll be busy throughout the event though to commit to it.

This is a great idea. As I've said, the San Carlos train station is 5 minutes away which makes for easy pick-up. Several folks have offered to assist in the San Carlos Train Station HedgeCon shuttle efforts.

If you are coming by BART and I haven't already made arrangements you have two choices:

a. Because it's a ~30-40 minute turn around time, we should arrange to pick everyone up at once to maximize fun time for everyone!
b. At Millbrae station, you can switch to CalTrain and come to the San Carlos stop.

IF YOU ARE COMING BY PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION, POST HERE AND THE GROUP CAN AGREE ON TIMING/LOCATION.

I am going to be in and out all day today (need to pick up more tables and chairs, food, etc.) so responses will likely be delayed.

Sounds good!

Just throwing this out there: how does an arrival time of 3 pm in San Carlos sound for everyone? Looks like the 434 train leaves San Francisco at 2:15, hitting the Millibrae station at 2:38. Yea/nay?

Yeah, actually might be nice to have one 2p game in hand, good idea.

In that case, I'll lighten my load and drop BSG from my stack.

By the way, in terms of food, I was thinking it'd be a shame to have anyone miss out on gaming due to being locked to BBQ duties. I'm personally down for mass pizza ordering if that frees you up a bit for more gaming.

Oh, and I forgot to mention PitchCar Mini! The perfect game to play when people's brains stop working.

Indeed!

I am gonna make the final determination later today. It's looking like rain is definitely in the making for tomorrow though, which really puts a dampener on the BBQ idea. Especially since it won't be possible for some folks to sit on on the patio.

Bring tents and beach umbrellas!

I am also going to bring a surprise treat. I am going to cut it into as many pieces as possible but its reasonably pricy ingredients so 2 is out of the question. Some may miss out, sorry.

Query - Is anybody planning to bring their laptop/gaming rig? Not that I think we will be lacking for things to do, but if there will be a mini-lan going on, I'll bring my laptop.

Mmm, caviar pie.

That sounds delightful, but I'm guessing there will be way too many things to do in far too little time, so I'm gonna leave my stuff at home.
