Medal of Honor (Modern Era version) revealed

I've been trolling the MoH forums, checking out the posts and by and large they've been pretty brutal. Even accounting for the average trash that post there it's still been pretty bad. I've never come across so many locked threads were people were raging against the game.

One fellow even posted a screen shot after a match where the score leader had a 104/4 KDR. WTF.

So, this is supposed to mean something?

I've gotten scores like this on CoD4 and every other shooter I've ever played. It doesn't happen very often, but it happens. Just takes the right circumstances and having a good game. I guess that means those games are just totally broken.

Maybe it's a PC vs console thing but I've never seen a KDR that high in any of the multiplayer games I've ever played. I know I'm not capable of it, but I haven't even seen it. I've only played COD4, MW2, Halo, and BC2 multiplayer so my frame of reference is limited.

And I don't know if you meant to, but your post came off as pretty snarky Thin_J.

Well, it kind of is snarky, though it's not really aimed at you. More the person who originally posted the picture like it was some ridiculous oddity.

The game has problems. Some big ones. Nobody's really arguing that. But people are piling on and complaining about things that happen in pretty much every other multiplayer fps now. They're just hunting for reasons to whine instead of talking about actual problems with the game.

Also: my best CoD4 scores were on the 360, but those kind of games do tend to happen more often on the PC.

To me, that picture is basically someone saying "Look, this guy owned all of us. I'm bad at this game and that guy isn't so clearly it must be broken."

I see. The pic caught my eye because I've never seen that many kills with so many unanswered deaths, at least without someone using an exploit, hack, etc. When I see a disparity as large as 104 to 4, it definitely gives me pause. What I've gathered from the MoH forum is that snipers are pretty brutal on the multiplayer maps, just like they were in the beta.

I really wish the news I was hearing about it was more positive as I very much wanted this game to be a success. Too bad in my town there isn't even a rental option anymore.

I am playing this on the PC so your results may differ, but I am having a blast. I enjoyed the first several SP levels and then lost about three hours in MP. SP is very scripted, but it was entertaining. The MP ran smooth as butter and I actually found the rifleman to be very effective on most maps. There were a few where snipers were a hassle, but using cover and sprint worked wonders. The Spec Ops class seemed to be the most lethal leveled up. I got a rifleman to 3 and a sniper to 2 and had a ton of fun. This isn't the next great shooter, but not every movie is Lord of the Rings or Star Wars, but they are still fun.

FWIW, if you enjoy military shooters, the SP campaign is at least worth a rental. The length is on par with modern warfare, and I enjoyed myself all the way through. My only complaint is that the sheer number of enemies in the later stages becomes ridiculous. All in all, even though a sequel is unlikely, I would like to see more games in this same vein.

My roommie rented this and I fired it up about 30 minutes ago. I'm not usually big on graphics criticism, but this game is ugly.

I can't seem to get the 7 headshots in a row achievement (Right in the Grape). Pretty sure I've nailed 9-10 in a row, assuming the little icon at the bottom indicates a headshot kill.

Sure sounds respectful of the soldiers!

I played the first couple levels last night, and it just feels like a rough around the edges copy of Call of Duty. I'm kinda pissed I didn't just take this out of my queue so I would get Vanquish at release.

I had a lot of things bad to say about this game but probably the one good thing was that it was really pretty. Could be another PC/Console difference though. The differences in visuals between PC and Consoles usually aren't to that extreme though.

is there a gwj with server for MOH? I am looking for some people to play with.

I'd imagine career soldiers like the guys depicted get kinda stoked about headshots.

I hate it when I see people say things like "Wii Game X has graphics worse than the Dreamcast!" when it clearly isn't true, hyperbole just bothers the hell out of me.

I think Call of Duty 2 on 360 is graphically superior. There's just no fluidity in a lot of the animations, the car textures I think were outdone in Midnight Club on PS2... I dunno. IT's just super ugly all around.

I should say that the distant scenery, like in the fourth mission, is pretty. In a nature-y way.

That said, I do like the feel of shooting. And I dig that the story is less bombastic than MW2.

I must be missing something because I really don't understand the relevance of that in regards to my post...
Not trying to snark it up here, I just don't get it.

I was just emphasizing that I would not stoop to hyperbole to say the game is uglier than it is. It wasn't really in regard to your post, just adding a little flavor to my statement in the following paragraph.

Personally i thought it looked good. As good if not better than MW2 or BC2. Especially the mountain maps. Of course i'm mainly played MP and only 1hr of the SP.

My guy's name is (no surprise here): ranalin

Friend me up. I'm also on Steam.

Beyond that there's not enough interest here to warrant a gwj server. I only have 2 steam friends that i see having the game and only 1 is a Goodjer. Hey SpyNavy!

Love to play Ran. I have been playing some on a couple of Canadian servers. Seems to be a healthy population so far. I think the game looks really good on the PC. I'd love to get on our vent server and actually play semi coordinated.

Yep. So far our play times dont seem to match, but if i see ya on i'd love to use vent as well. This game actually seems better suited for that than others.

I have the game too, I just haven't made time to start it yet.

Too much Starcraft 2 watching lately

Just PM me here or hit me on STEAM - I am usually game for some MP.

Anyone have any new thoughts re:Moh now that we're a week post launch?

With some of the more recent chatter, I'm considering picking it up. I jsut with the $60 price tag werent attached. that's one big hold back.
I just bought Fallout 3 so I may wait a week, but I may jump back in. I reallydid like the demo/beta.
I liked that I actually did failry well. I liked the THUMP of a bullet hitting me (not the fact that it hit me, just the sound effect) made me feel like that may be actually how it sounds, just before you DIE! I liek the environment and all that crap floating around in the air? what do you think would be floating around on a war field? dandelion fluff? This isn't LOTRO.

Some maps in the demo were small, but I liked the one where you had to capture each point in succession.
How are the maps now in release?

Just more of the same types you saw in beta. Whats cool though is on the server i play on they mix up the game types on the smaller maps and some of them are fun with different objectives even though they're small. Of course the bigger ones that are combat missions are still an absolute blast to play and my favorite still.

Will do!

I sketched a few thoughts about the Multi-Player of MoH
http://sugarfreegamer.com/?p=908

The Single Player doesn't seem to have any of the drama it needs... but I am captivated (at the moment) by the cauldron of death that is the Multi Player... except it needs an objective of some sort to have any worth/meaning..

just for your situation awareness...

amazon has it now for $20.00.

I decided this was the price point I was willing to take the dive at.

Interesting that its $20.00 only 3 months after release...

anyhow, its on download and i'll drop a concise opinion soon if anyone is interested.

note: focus for me is on the single player game. i haven't played multiplayer FPS since well... I stopped playing CS: Source.

too hard to keep up with the online-professionals and gamers with no jobs (GWNJs)

:I

well just a few thoughts having gone through a few of the levels of the single player campaign

- its fun. not great, not bad. is it worth $20? sure. is it worth more than that? nah.

- is it pretty? yep.

- does it capture afghanistan? yep. more or less. time frame wise seems like its take its snapshots from the from the 2003 era.

- the scripting and on-rails quality is palpable however. a bit more obvious than say mw2.

- bad company 2 has better characters... sure they're fairly superficial, but at least i can sincerely laugh at the humorous banter / exchanges, and almost sympathise with the "last tour" crap (almost). the characters in MoH are a tad more two dimensional... they're almost made out of cardboard.

Can anyone tell me if this is worth picking up cheap to play multiplayer on 360? Does anyone still play this online?

I've heard it's dead.
