Brink Catch-All

Where's the catch-all on this game? Is this it?

Been noticing the "exclusive previews" on G4's X-Play. Some links to the videos:

I'm intrigued about the multiplayer aspect -- in addition to being played solo (with AI teammates), the campaign allows you to play up to 8-player coop or versus mode with 16 players (8 vs. 8). An interesting take on the freerunning/parkour thing too.

Yeah I'm keeping an eye on this one, I think it definitely has potential. I like the "stylized realism" of the art design.

It looks awesome. Really looking forward to it.

Just read on the Bethesda blog that release date has been pushed back to "Fall 2010" instead of "Spring 2010". So I guess a bit early to start anticipating this one ...

Cautious. I though Quake Wars was great but I'd rather be surprised by quality than expect it and be disappointed.
I have such a gamer hard-on for different graphic art styles.

Saw it demo'd at PAX earlier this year. Looked interesting, great art-style, and with an interesting mechanic where you can change role (think TF2 classes) mid-game.

I came away with the distinct impression that I'd watched a demo for a PC shooter rather than a console shooter, which makes sense considering the heritage of the dev.

Brink Character Customization Trailer: http://www.incgamers.com/Videos/1155...

One of my most anticipated games for 2010. I hope I can upgrade this August so I can play more of the great games coming out this year.

This is one title where I hope media over-saturation occurs. It's really hard to tell whether or not I'm going to have fun with multiplayer until I get my hands on it. Open beta would be great. It's fairly standard now and their last title had one.

And a bit old but still interesting interview at RPS: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009...

"Stern: Really, interesting approach. But anyway, the name signifies new, and we’re delighted to be able to do stuff, and to keep the complexity and depth of the games that we’ve gone and made before, /and/ cater to the PC hardcore with custom servers and all that stuff. But we don’t want that to be sat at the front of the game: look at all these controls! That’s going to be squirrelled away for the hardcore to customise their games as they see fit, but we don’t want to be daunting new players with it from the off.

Brink is about bringing our games to lots of new people, which demands, insists on, a different approach. And that is a concern, because one of the criticisms is likely to be “oh it’s on the consoles, they’ve had to hobble it because the constraints of that”, and our responses is: “we bloody hope not!” These versions will be developed for their own platforms, but we’ve had to focus on what’s required for that: you’ll be able to play on the PC with a gamepad or a mouse and keyboard."

Came upon a few interesting parts of an interview, this one being my favourite. Check it out, it touches on the SMART button and how you can do it manually too (and it's better that way instead of holding it AC1/2 style) and other interesting topics. Check the other parts for more goodies.

I saw a talk by one of their guys at the Eurogamer Expo last year. I found it really hard to distinguish the two sides and the classes within the sides in their videos. When I asked the presenter about this (since I know that Valve spent a lot of time making the sides have distinct colours and silhouettes in TF2), he blathered on about backpacks and stuff. I must say that, if the Bethesda name wasn't attached to this, then I wouldn't be interested in it at all. I hope they can improve this aspect a bit.

Loved what I read. Definitely interesting, sheds more light on the classes, the cooperation, accessibility (not making a game for little old ladies), etc.

Liquid, the link took me to a page saying the content was region locked, any chance you could post or PM me some of the info?

I'm really looking forward to hearing more and more about this game. The fact that Bethesda's involved has me particularly interested. One thing I've noticed that could be a major hype killer for me is that there don't seem to be an female character models. This bothers me when games talk up their Endless Character Customization and then limit you to a single gender. It really bothered me in Crackdown when I wasn't drawn into playing as any of the male archetypes and I could see it having the same effect on me here. The game shows all this impressive agility among its characters, shouldn't that lend itself to having female runners, too?

Since I returned to the team based FPS realm with BC2 (and I'm loving it!), I'm really looking forward to this one. I love the art style as well.

For those interested in more details around the game that haven't made it into the announcements here's a huge Q&A from the SD forums: http://brink.chefenco.com/gigantic-b... Along with this: http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/s...

Most of these are regarding the PC version, game mechanics such as prone (not in the game), leaning, ironsights, modding, competitive play, open .cfgs for the hardcore gamers, server browsers or match making, etc.
The game will have a Linux server support too.

Just saw a trailer for this on CBS's march madness on demand feed directly following an Iron Man 2 trailer. So, it seems to me that there is a distinct possibility this could happen.

I recall hearing this game mentioned a couple of times on podcasts and what not but didn't really pay attention. The trailer kind of made it seem like the aesthetic and gameplay of Borderlands + competative multiplayer, which I could definitely go for. The class business appearing to be similar to tf2 just got me all kinds of excited.

Very excited about this game despite the Spring 2011 release...oh and I had to quote this gem from their official forums...

bash me all u want but this game should have been 3rd person and it would of more then likely ended a automatic hit but come to find out its a first person shooter it's just going to be garbage i dont care how good the moves look, feel. Nobody is going to care why do a cool move like slide under a metal detector or climb walls and all the cool stuff u can do in brink when u really cant see it happen dont get me wrong the game looks amazing feels amazing the smart system is genius the character creation is outstanding best i've seen in awhile but whats the point of having a robust customization if u cant see your character atleast have it a option. Im afraid this game will only break even if it stays fps only and im not the only one saying that either (half the people at quake con) great concepts with a beautiful art style and great graphics smart system is truly unique but nobody wants a mirrors edge 1.5 with awesome guns maybe brink 2 could be a TPS then my friends u will truly have a Ip that could be milked more then CoD

Well, that's certainly dulled the appeal.

I actually do kind of get the 3rd person thing. I think Mirror's Edge could have been better with a more Prince of Persia perspective, but it's not a game breaker.

Wow, that was actually one sentence. Oh, my mistake - it's two.

A reminder to everyone to put on their factor 84 stupidity filter creme before entering a game's official forum. God forbid a game isn't made for every taste.

I'm also looking forwards to this, I hope it does better than ETQW as Splash Damage do have some sound thoughts and ideas on team multiplayer gaming.

Four different pre-order pack ins are available depending on where you plunk down your money. Kind of ridiculous. Plus it's $50...

This game has been on my radar since this summer. This RPS article however has sold me on it:

Holy Crap!

That's all I have to say.

Still do want. Splitting my time between TF2, BO, and this might be a Female Doggo.

Already preordered. Hopefully it meets up to expectations

Looking forward to it very much.

Spring...too...far....away...

Actually, not really, it will get me a chance to get my new rig in and running.
Tagging to keep an eye on new news.

New gun trailer:

beautiful. I'll continue to wait patiently.

Damn, I want this and want it to be good. It makes me sad that all my work buddies will be playing this on 360 while I'll probably be getting it on PC. Of course, that happens every time there's a multiplatform MP FPS. Stupid console people.

EDIT: Answered my own question. Steam is required no matter where you buy it.
