You did mention this! But I wanted to explore the options out there before asking you about it.

Shrinking down to 14x20 sounds good if that makes it easier and cheaper to print these. I'm happy help organize and gather people's information. I think the big thing would be figuring out the best way for gathering people's payments/orders beforehand.

Oily, can we use the main Child's Play account for the poster orders? Is there a clear way for the information/orders/funds to be tracked through the same account?

Before we start talking about producing tons of posters, shirts and mugs, let's make sure we get the basics of where everyone is gathering and stuff first. I know there's a lot of enthusiasm right now but that's going to turn into something less than awesome if someone is sitting on a few hundred dollars worth of stuff that only a handful of people bought.

One step at a time, guys. I'll be contacting the people who are planning to run these individual gatherings tonight.

SadSally will be at an S & T of one:(

Sally needs to man up and come to Ohio. Talk to Bent, I think he might be driving.

Yah but MsNasty wouldn't like it if I scooted out on her and LilNasty for the weekend:(

KC- area goodjers, unite!!!

Well, it isn't up to me. A trustworthy reliable source will be handling that but I will bring up the option when I speak with him. It's been so long since I've used paypal and gotten more than a single deposit at a time that I'm not sure if that's workable.

Cool, keep us posted! Just figured I'd start asking these questions now

It cropped to 14 x 20 beautifully, and I've already asked for 1 printed up (it's my office I'll put whatever I want on the wall!). The original art would be nice, if it's vector-based. Make it 300 dpi and 14x20 and we're rocking! Also, it will be on something much better than poster paper that has decent weight from a high quality stock. Shipping tubes, etc, also are available, and I can get a quote if you want on a per item basis so we know up front what costs may be incurred.

For ordering, I envision a small web portal where the user selects how many they want, if they are going to be at Oily's S&T for pick up or they can pay shipping, and we just push those funds to the designated Paypal account. I can then snag the shipping address list at the appropriate time, get them printed and sent out, and then whatever the costs that are to be incurred can be billed - I don't want to touch anything but the code, really.

One thing I think we should change on any prospective image is the date. It may seem a little thing but the backwards american format of mm/dd/yyyy makes my brain bleed everytime I read it.

I like 23rd Oct 2010... nice and unambiguous (at least for english countries, and they are the only ones that matter, right?)

Also... I think that the Melbourne S&T might be the first (due to our futureness)

10 23 10 is so nice and symmetrical though.

Does it read Melbourne S&T up there? Or WORLD WIDE S&T! We're Uhmuricans here - we do things our way!

What's that? It *does* say world wide? Who wrote that?

Seriously though - you are not even on the International S&T map. Once you lads get something going on down under, we'll consider changing the date format

After sitting back and pondering all this a bit, I've decided to just point people to this thread and let you guys get on with things. We'll make sure to get the word out, you guys handle the details

As for Child's Play stuff, we can take those donations through Paypal after the regular drive is done. How you collect those donations is up to the hosts and the visiting members. Individuals sending direct to us is probably cleanest and least likely to have any weird accounting issues.

As for posters? With the understanding that this isn't officially sanctioned swag ... go nuts. So long as you're not using our actual logo, Stan, etc. and selling it, we're all good. I strongly recommend against making more than you get pre-ordered if you follow through on making them. Specific stuff like this tends to generate a lot of enthusiasm from a handful of forum members but doesn't always translate into actual sales. See: Weiner Bomb Shirt.

Stickers are nice. Just sayin'

But we'll call it the Fall Slap & Tickle.

I have no idea what you're talking about. The map is clearly showing a Melbourne S&T.

Anyway... make with the date change Female Doggoes

It's probably easier to always make it a weekend. So why not just say "Four (or six, or whatever) weekends after PAX Prime." That way, we'll always have something to talk about during bio breaks. It's like gamer thanksgiving.

Copied over from the Ohio thread:

'Also, how does everyone feel about having a video game swap? My thoughts were just to bring a bunch of games you don't want anymore, we throw them in a pile, and people take home what they want. Maybe we'll make a randomized list to pick and call it off at some point in the night...and if you take a game out you donate $5 to Child's Play?"

I think this should be implemented if you want by each individual S&T, this is just an idea I'm throwing out there.

We can turn that into a raffle pretty easy. If everyone brings games to toss into the pool, we can sell raffle tickets for $5 each and once everyone has purchased their tickets, draw them until we run out of games or tickets. If any games are left over, we can... sell them for whatever cash we get, I guess and give it to child's play.

Wow there are mailing lists for different areas?! eheheheh Can I have them!

j/k

OK, I haven't been paying attention to this, but I'll weigh in to help make the UK one happen.

I am unable to host that weekend (and Winchester isn't an exactly ideal anyway), but I'd like to attend. I think a London meetup somewhere is probably the best plan. Saturday night is likely to be quite busy I guess, but we can probably find a pub or restaurant to hole up in. I only know the very centre of London (and that was a decade ago), so perhaps someone else has some ideas. Alternatively we could meet up in a pub and then try to find somewhere nearby to eat.

Just out of curiosity, I ran the numbers for a round-trip ticket to Cleveland from Lisbon, Portugal. Pretty cheap!

Those flights aren't going to book themselves, people. Get to where you want to go and then make someone pick you up from the airport.

Goddamn it penguin, thanks for the heads up. Oh, wait, I had to heard the podcast then take notice of this thread, then take notice of that post, read all the great stuff, get on with the momentum...

I'll try to annoy/convince slazev, since we live/work close together, put Portugal on that map, toast to all the anniversaries, maybe find a way to help out Child's Play. No, no fancy trips to United States, but at the very least make it happen on the country of Camões.

I don't know of any other Portuguese GWJ'er. If you're here, show yourself!

Portuguese GWJers, assemble!

I already posted in my area's thread, but I wanted to post here: To everyone who helped come up with this idea, thank you thank you thank you. This is one of those ideas that seems so obvious in retrospect, and that's why it's so brilliant. I'm super pumped to have an opportunity to meet fellow Goodjers in my area. Ever since college, I've been itching for opportunities to play board games, which is difficult to make happen when you know few people in the area, and this is just perfect.

My fiancee and I (both goodjers, but I'm the only one who really ever posts ;)) live in Cedar Rapids, IA. Unfortunately, her sister is going to be in town from California then for her once-a-year trip she gets to make to visit familiy in the midwest, so I really have no idea what we will or won't be doing that weekend. KC is a bit of a drive for us to manage for a S&T too, otherwise I'd be thrilled for us to try to make it! As it is, i'm probably going to just have to miss out on this year's first international Goodj-a-thon.

Maybe next year! Thanks for at least one response:)

Anyone going to Blizzcon? 23rd is the second day!

I wanna hang out with gwjers in Seattle! Or anywhere around the puget sound area.

We've got the final details on the posters/prints and will have an online way to pre-order them live by Monday morning.

So awesome. Thanks for heading up this initiative!

OK, so I've been living in Melbourne for a few years now and listening to GWJ for about the same amount of time. I figure that maybe I should get involved now that I hear a Slap and Tickle is happening locally. I'd definitely be up for a Melbourne event (assuming I can get away for the night). What's the usual plan for a Melbourne SnT?

Okay, skimmed this thread - but I'll willing to come out of my lurking-hole for a UK S&T

Depending on where everybody has to come form maybe Birmingham might be more universaly (in)convenient, being central and all. (Nothing to do with me being based in Birmingham, you understand ). But London has more going on and is better looking

So if we had a Winnipeg one that would be, what? 5 of us? ;)

I would travel the 6 hours to winnipeg to participate in a slap and tickle, I am not to far from you guys but it would be worth it.

Are there any other Japan Goodjers? I would consider offering up my house and the restaurant down the street as the official Japan Goodjer S&T site...that is if anyone can make it to Sado Island.
