Penguin's Ohio S&T 10-23-10 (Reach, Mario Kart, Rock Band 2, Board Games, and Beer)

As far as booze, any experienced fellow knows to always bring backup in a boot. I wouldn't go above and beyond just due to some people's ahemdjincompetentahem reputation.

We do request a shmup contest though.

Funny you should mention TVs... We're either rapidly approaching or already past the point of being able to have everyone gaming all the time. If anyone is interested in bringing a TV, that would be outstanding.

I don't really know what a Halo is, so, maybe if my home theater isn't setup in time [just bought house] I'll pack my projector/screen/soundbar so we can have a 108" gaming screen if the hypetrain builds up and people want to sanction some kind of that official GWJ vs. DGR community rematch people reference about with lots of shouting and laughing.

My. God.

Sure thing. Though as I am light on those, shoot me a PM with what you want to bring/ what you would like to be there and I'll see if I can't line things up.

I'm still planning on sending out an organizational email on 10-1 so we know who is bringing what and what we'll still need as far as equipment/ food/ beer goes.

Trueheart and I are communicating about carpooling, but it looks likely at this point. There *may* even be time to meet AnimeJ for lunch on our way up. You know, just to rub it in even more.

Meet him for lunch on the way back. With pictures. It'll smart more that way.

If the carpooling crew from Cinci wouldn't mind another tagalong, I think I might try to make this. I can bring an Xbox 360, or a couple of controllers, and some board games. Also booze. I think it'll help if you post whatever equipment you're low on and we can see who has what to bring. Maybe create a shared Google Spreadsheet.

That's the plan, that's why I'm collecting email addys.

The spreadsheet is made but I came up with it while running under the assumption we would only be doing halo/ mario kart with about 20 people. Now that we're doing something for Child's play and things have taken on a life of their own, I need a general idea of both what we're doing and how many people are coming first.

This is crazy but pretty amazing.

Maybe you need an equipment organizer, a booze organizer, a charity organizer, and a games organizer.

As far as food, we can just order 300 tacos at the nearest Bell and be done with it

You're not wrong. I think I can handle 3 of those and I've employed a charity organizer, so we should be good.

I also reserve the right to delegate things, so be prepared =)

Dare I ask how spacious your house is? Will we be delegated to sleeping in the backyard?

Changed the topic because it was too long before. There's too much information I need to convey to try and be funny (yes, I am aware I kept the halo penguin).

The take away here is that, yes, I have strange priorities but more importantly I have the planning sheet up and you guys can fill out what you're bringing.

NOTE: Anyone who hasn't RSVPed yet, please still send me a PM that you're coming so I have a feel for the number of people that are coming without being OCD about checking the spreadsheet =)

trueheart78 wrote:

That question is tough but fair. Couch space is limited as is bed space but if everyone planning on sleeping brings a bag or an air mattress or something, we should be good. I haven't been talking much about sleeping arrangements because with this many people, I am dubious as to how much sleep we'll be getting (my money is on none).

If you desire sleep, there is floor space for all but you're probably better off booking a local hotel room if you have a long drive ahead of you (because unless we have a cut off time, whoever is still playing stuff will be loud). We'll figure it out.

Also I have hard wood floors so don't count on carpeting to sleep on.

UPDATE: I also added some questions for carpooling on the spreadsheet, so check it out if you're into that. They're on the attendees tab.

Took a look at the spreadsheet and it looked like there were two Matts listed. I updated my name to "Matt P" on the Attendee sheet but I'm not sure if I'm the Matt listed on the Supplies sheet. I might be able to scrounge up 2 Wiimotes, a RB1 Drum Kit (360) and two GH2 (360) guitars but that's about it.

I also didn't see any boardgames or tabletop stuff listed so... Didn't know if I should offer to bring that as well.

I have vacation time but can't get off work. Two people from my shift are already gone that whole weekend

Have fun everybody.

All of our Js can't come. It's terrible. I wish you both could be here.

You are NOT the Matt listed, so feel free to add your stuff. I don't plan on doing any 360 Rock Banding unless we can't get enough PS3 stuff. I figure mine and Phish' PS3 stuff is enough but we have time to change the plan. The Matt on the list has 360 Rock Back stuff so if more people want to do it on 360, I can certainly accommodate (but I have better taste in music than him).

As for Board games, bring what you want. I'll make a list of generally what I have tomorrow and post it and if you guys feel the urge to bring what I am lacking, have at it. The only caveat to broad games is that most of the table space will be taken up by TVs, though moving LCDs isn't exactly going to be a problem. I loves me some board games and frankly, most of my friends would prefer that to us kicking the crap out of them at Halo.

(I have the oddest notion that finding 8 people to play Twilight Imperium for money may be the greatest gaming achievement of my life.)

I've always wanted to go to a GWJ S&T in the worst way! If I can find a house sitter and carpool up to Cinci with Pyro and then carpool with the rest, I would LOVE to attend. I could bring a 360 and Beatles RB w/instruments if that would help. I'll check on a house-sitter and talk to Pyro and see if I might be able to work this out.

Sounds good =) shoot me a PM when you know for sure and add your stuff to the spreadsheet. Hope you can make it.

Because of this, you are now required to have 8x the fun for all of us, and remember we deserve photographic and videographic proof.

If you guys are cool swinging through Dayton, I should be able to get out for an hour or so to hit up somewhere in Beavercreek.

Trueheart, Pyro and I are trying to work out carpool stuff.
If Pyro and SillyRabbit can meet me here in the 'Nati I can pull us the rest of the way, picking up Trueheart. That's about all the room I have however.
SR -- Can you PM me your e-mail and I'll start an e-mail thread with the four of us to coordinate? It's not urgent as we obviously have a while to figure out details.
Also, I updated my name and added myself for four wiimotes.

Barring any acts of God, I'm in. I can bring two 360s, three controllers, and two 37" TVs. I'll also bring my laptop for light PC gaming (TF2, etc.)

On Fridays I get out of work between 3p and 6p. I'd like to leave right after work, and either crash at Oily's place or get a cheap motel room, I figure if we split it it won't be bad. If anyone is interested in carpooling, PM or IM me so we can get this figured out.

You want to get there a day early?

carrotpanic wrote:

I'm very popular!

Also getting up at 7AM, driving 4+ hours to be here by 3 and then not sleeping only to have me send you guys home at 10am on Sunday and then have ANOTHER 4+ hour drive in front of you would kind of wear, y'know?

I'll put together some numbers for local hotels for anyone interested in them as I don't know how many I can accommodate Friday night (if any).

What he said.

(Actually I missed the part of the OP where he states it starts at three. Oops.)

7 + 4 = 11 AM

You guys do some funny math in that backwards state of yours.

Ok, time to list my board games (this is in no way shape or form comprehensive):
Risk & Castles
Risk 2248 (or whatever that's called)
Twilight Imperium & Expansion
A Game of Thrones & both expansions
Battlestar Galactica & Expansion
Shogun (yay dice tower!)
Diplomacy
Axis & Allies

There are more, but those are the relevant ones, I think. Yes, I love games where the main mechanic is stabbing one another in the back, what of it?

Anything else you guys want to bring, have at it. I don't know how big the call for board games will be but if there is something you guys really want to play, we'll try and make space for it. And if you want to play something that isn't on my list or someone has volunteered to bring, post about it, I'm sure we can take care of you.

Obvious question - do you have enough tables? Should card tables be something someone might need to bring?

Yes. Yes, we're going to need table space. I had planned to put the call out for tables and chairs come 10-1. I want to snag as much of that as I can from local sources first. Maybe we'll be ok? I'll let you guys know.

Edit: Never mind. We're good on tables and chairs. I just need to do some running around the day before (which I had the day set aside for anyway).

You sure? I can bring a big folding table, 4 - 6 folding chairs and maybe a small square folding table.

You can set those up in the backyard for the no holds barred wrestling match.

Oh, go for it L&L. Bring the 8 footer and the chairs since you live so close, thanks.

I figured I was good for tables amongst my local friends and I have one guy whose dad owns a ton of tables/ chairs that I was using as backup in case we ran over. With your stuff we should be good for sure.

Oh man, you're really not making this one easy, are you? That list looks fantastic.
