Bay Area Goodjers, Recent Transplants and Visitors - come one, come all! HedgeCon 2010.

(Updates are included below)

The facts are these:

I am hosting a gathering at my place to:
a) get our game on

b) honor our recently arrived transplant from the grey Northwest.

c) put my ion drum kit to good use

d) Generate photographic evidence that the Bay Area folks are way cooler than people in Ohio.

LOCATION:
MY place. San Carlos, CA.

I know it's not the most convenient for East Bay peeps ('Easties' according to semi-Eastie Rabbit), but I ain't moving.

My home is nice: I have room for multiple tables of games, a place to store beverages, Rock Band on the 360, and if you get too drunk to drive/train home, I have space and sleeping accouterments.

HOW TO GET THERE:
a) BART from Berkely to Millbrae is ~1 hour. I can shuttle you from there to my home (~15 min door-to-door). Schedule.

b) CalTrain from SF runs ~45 minutes. The San Carlos station is about 1 mile away, and we'll pick you up/drop you off. Schedule.

c) Driving? PM me and I'll send you directions

WHAT WE CAN DO?:
a) Here's my collection of board games. Feel free to bring your own too!

b) For the super nerdy, if you are interested in running through a Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay scenario, I might be able to whip up a 2-4 hour scenario. -OR- if YOU want to run ME through some bizarre scenario in your favorite RPG, I would be down with that too.

c) Rock Band 1 & 2

d) Very nice back yard + patio for the smoking inclined

e) If you want to bring your laptop or other gaming rig and setup a mini-lan, you're welcome to piggy back on my network.

f) Eat, Drink & Be Merry!

WARNINGS & DISCLAIMERS:
a) I have two shepherd mutts ~70 lbs a piece. If you hate dogs, I invite you to go to Ohio to play with Penguins instead.

b) I have a soon-to-be 3 year old daughter. She'll likely be absent for most of the shindig, but I am sure she'll put in an appearance. If you hate awesome children, I invite you to go to Vancouver.

c) Step out of line and I will Glamdring your ass. I don't anticipate that being a problem given the crew I know in the area.

I NEED MORE CONCRETE DETAILS!
a) WHEN: October 23. Say 1:00 PM until we stop/pass out/go home. Anyone staying overnight is welcome to hitting up the nearby breakfast place and gaming further if there's a will. Maybe we'll all reconvene the next day? It's YOUR call!

b) FOOD? that's the question, isn't it? It depends on how many folks show. I am happy to acquire provisions and throw together a BBQ of epic proportions. We also have numerous tasty Pizza, BBQ, Mexican, Fancy options in the immediate area for comestibles.

c) BEVERAGES? I will definitely be providing sodas, beers, wines, whiskeys and water. Bring your own too!

Too late in the month for you? No Quintin_Stone? I invite you to North Carolina.

So there it is. I advise that if you are interested you respond to this thread, PM me, IM me, text me, Call me, etc. Even if ONLY 1 PERSON comes, it will be EPIC!

UPDATE 9/22: Work + Life = insane for the next few weeks. Never you worry, faithful Bay Areans (Bay Areaites? Bayeans? Most Awesome of All GWJers?), I will update this thread as we get closer to the event. I'll be confirming attendees, soliciting suggestions, making sure everyone knows what will be available, and when.

Also, whether & how we might participate in the Child's Play events (if folks are inclined).

Finally, I decided to look up what has been released for Rock Band DLC in the last year or so. I then noticed that there are over 40 songs I want to acquire. Hopefully you'll want to sing along with one of them!

This sounds amazing, man! I will try my darndest to be there, and I'll bring a stack of board games and a few drops of booze.

Edit: Nay, my darndest isn't good enough. This sounds unmissable. I will try my rootin-tootinest to be there.

You know, we might be able to convince more significant others if we offered up the "other" boardgames like:
pictionary, cranium, taboo, and catch phrase...

Just saying =P

Un-freakin'-believable.

My whole October is clear EXCEPT for the 23rd when I'm going to a wedding.

On another note, we're neighbors!

I'm just across 101 i Redwood Shores. Remember that plane that crashed into the lagoon last week? 50 yards from my house.

A thousand torch-wielding exes couldn't keep me away, but I'll have to do some checking.

I am potentially booked at weekend. My mother-in-laws b-day! We shall see how things play out, otherwise you all can visit me in the new year.

Would like to make it, but am usually only in that area during weekdays.

Awesome. Thanks for setting this up. I should be able to make it barring crazy, unexpected things popping up.

Whoa - you come up here from Pacific Palisades?

WHAT?? My woman plays War of the Ring with me! What's wrong with you people?

The best I can personally offer is scrabble, wise or otherwise, and wits and wagers. I'll ask some other friends what they have on tap for group/traditional gaming. And of course, Article the Seventh: Everyone is free to bring their own (including Mr. Pederson who has Telestrations).

Awesome! I'll definitely be there.

I am starstruck already. Suck it Vancouver/Ohio/North Carolina S&Ts happening on-or-about the same time!

Actually, I think Amoebic's idea is spot on. Let's turn that weekend into a Gamers with Jobs mega-a-thon S&T. Just imagine it, hundreds of cities across the world, hosting Slap & Tickles and spreading the gaming love.

The gauntlet has been thrown. How many Goodjers will pick it up?

Here's my board game collection, if anyone wants to request anything specific from it. I'll bring a good mix of stuff down, otherwise.

Edit: Also, if any of you guys are StarCraft 2 folks, I'm flying my nerd flag high and hosting a Super Bowl-style party for the GSL Open semifinals and finals at my place (in El Cerrito) on the weekend of October 9-10. You know the drill—big foam #1 hands, buffalo wings, tasty beer, jumping up on your feet and screaming. It's about a week delayed from the actual airdates of the matches, but I'll be streaming the VODs on the big TV. PM me if you're interested in coming, and I'll get you the information.

Oh man, you drop off the face of the Internet for a week and look what you miss! Count me in for this global GWJ get-together, what should I bring?

Hmm... I've got some frequent flier miles...

Maybe I can harass *Legion* into hosting me for the weekend.

Otherwise, I guess I'll head to Houston.

You're more than welcome to stay with us, although the drive down to San Carlos would be about 1 hour 45 minutes. Actually, the drive from Monterey to San Carlos takes the same amount of time. So really you should stay with us because we're way cooler, plus we haven't seen you since March.

Hmm, sounds like it's time to run it by Quicksilver and check the calendar. Thanks Luna.

I'll probably start formalizing the list once we get into October and start tackling all the logistics stuff. Glad to see there's interest!

I'll be there. I can bring the following board games:

Battlestar Galactica, Telestrations, The Magic Labyrinth, and Supremacy. I can probably also bring some from my brother like Munchkin if anyone's interested in those (though I'm sure there'll be enough stuff to do there).

If you two are going, we must find a way to get *Legion* and his very tolerant wife to join in.

She won't be there. The "running it by" her was related to finances and "time off."

Wait a sec. THE *Legion* lives in the area??

Yeah, Monterey, like I said a couple posts up.

Me and my friend are up for this. Can't wait!

I'll be there. The mention of Scrabble may be enough to lure my wife (a non-gamer) in...

I'm in. I can bring games, or my 4 year old. That way the almost three year old has a friend to play with.

Hey, Hedge! I think I'm gonna bring along my buddy Joe. He's a good solid dude, and a proper video and board gamer. Let me know if that's cool with you or if you're stressing about too many peeps.

Edit: Joe just informed me that he does in fact lurk on GWJ about once a week.

Nah - it's all good! Any friend of 7inch is a friend of mine. Though, I think I need to start soliciting actual head count numbers and getting commitments from people soon. I'll probably put together a post/spreadsheet in the next couple of days.

Woot!

If Sephirotic brings his 4 year old, you've got a 3 year old, and I bring my two year old, can we just have a family-friendly hour? Maybe set up a board game for the adults and let the kids all play while we game? I mean, I don't know your setup or anything, but I've had good luck with rounds of RoboRally on my back porch while the kids play in the yard. Anyhoo, I'm definitely in, and as long as you're amenable, I'd like to bring the family too. We're getting closer to the date now, so any final details, or anything else you'd like help with, just let us all know (I know I'm willing to chip in or bring anything you'd like)!

I was mostly kidding about my kid, but I'm up for it. It would definitely limit the time I could stay, though.

My wife and daughter will actually be absent for most of the event. They'll probably come and go a little throughout the day.

Come for HedgeCon on Sat, stay for Combat Robots on Sunday.
