Penguin's Ohio S&T 10-23-10 (Reach, Mario Kart, Rock Band 2, Board Games, and Beer)

Pages

In celebration of my last year I can be classified as a "young person," I'm having some people over to get our game on under the influence of alcohol.

What? S&T.
Where? Here 6830 Cochran Road, Suite B, Solon, Ohio 44139

Who? All y'all
When? 10-23-10 from 3pm until we pass out or go home (or like... noon the next day, I guess). We'll be setting up starting at 10AM, so you guys are welcome to come early if you want.
Why? Because it's great. Also it looks like we're going to raise money for Child's Play by drinking beer. Can't beat that (more as that develops).
Planning Spreadsheet? Yes. Now, keep in mind, the "need" section is for the bare minimum of equipment, that is : 16 player Halo and Mario Kart and 2 dueling Rock Bands, if we want more than 1 thing going on at a time, we'll need more TVs and Systems so if you're comfortable bringing stuff either tell me about it or fill in the sheet so we can cross stuff off. Please check it to make sure what I did wrote down was factual.
Interested in Carpooling? I added a few columns on the spreadsheet. Go coordinate, you crazy kids.
DRG going to start sumpin? Seems like it, yeah.
How much money will I need to bring? Well, that's an excellent question. I'm hoping if you bring $20 cash and we all chip in for everything, we should be good for food and drinks. Beyond that, bring some money for child's play (tournaments and donations) and we should be good. I don't have amazing prizes for tournaments but I have a few little things that I can give away to tournament winners and such.

Games:
Halo: Reach
Mario Kart Wii
RB2 (360)
Drunken Super Street Fighter 4 (tm)
Various and sundry board games

UPDATE: We're drawing a hell of a lot more interest than I thought. So, in order for me to get a feel for how many people are coming, shoot me a PM with your email address, please. And I mean everyone. If you've already confirmed, send it to me anyway. I'll have to make a spreadsheet so everyone gets all the information they need.

And if you can't make it out to Ohio, check elsewhere. My birthday = S&T day!

Goodjers confirmed so far:

I don't want to forget anyone, check out the sheet.

Well I can't be in OH with you, but I will wish you a happy b-day from Kansas City! I will also be happy to play some Reach over xbox live if you need another!

Hey! You said you wouldn't post my questions! Asshole.

Oh, and Happy Birthday.

That's easily four hours from me, but I shall discuss with Mrs. Phish. My desire to participate in an Ohio S&T with more than three Goodjers may outweigh the drive.

Be with you in spirit, Texas is a hell of a commute.

Let me just say "YES! A S&T in driving range for me!". I live in Mayfield Heights which is extremely close to Solon. Man, kind of cool to know there's a Goodjer in my backyard.

Here's the crappy part though... I can't guarantee that I can make it. My weekends are usually pretty jam packed with my family and I already have a game dev meeting on the 9th, Con on the Cob (small gaming con in Hudson) on the 16th and a family Halloween party on the 30th. And I just remembered, we have family flying in the morning of the 23rd. *grrr* So, squeezing some more "Dad Time" in October is going to be rough. Let me see if I can sweet talk my wife... I'll let her go scrapbooking or have her chick friends over or something.

If I can make it, I can bring Poker chips, Rock Band, lots of Wii games and some boardgames (Settlers of Catan, Munchkin, Carcassonne). Maybe I can dig up some other stuff (D&D? Magic:TG?).

I'm actually headed out of town in the opposite direction that week. So despite it being relatively close (much like Phishposer), no go for me

Cool, L&L, let me know. I forgot about Con of the Cob this year because I sort of lost touch with Andy. Is it still at the same Holiday Inn as the last 2 years (he says instead of checking the website)?

I'd love it if you could make it, Phish. I was sorry I missed you guys in Cbus last month.

I might have sleeping accommodations for 5-6 people if that proves to be necessary if you guys are willing to make a huge trek out here.

My wife will be making herself scarce that night (for good reason, I think) so floor space it open and available if people want to bring sleeping stuff.

I'm actually closer than LockAndLoad believe it or not, but have the same problem. My buddy's annual Oktoberfest party and parents' annual clambake are fighting for that weekend. If they end up knocking each other out and the weekend frees up I might join you, otherwise I'm out too.

And I had no idea that Con on the Cob even existed. I'm fairly tied up that weekend too I'm afraid, but may have to try to make time to pop over there as well.

It's a 4-5 hour drive for me, but put me on the maybe list. It's too far out for me to know for sure but I shall try to find out.

... I really need to look into the Chicago S&Ts... :p

I don't have Reach but I have a 360 Elite and three controllers. Plus PC.

Current level of interest: Purple.

Crispy, you can do it, I believe in you. I can promise you beer and a place to sleep.

And 13th, if you come out that will pretty much be the most ridiculous thing ever. Go for it. Is there anything more vacation friendly than Cleveland at the end of October?

(yes. most of the leaves will be gone by then and it will be raining all the time)

I SO want to be there but my current joblessness makes game related road trips kinda no-go territory. However I am hoping the job thing resolves itself so I can rent a car and come up there.

I'd totally be Oily's token black side kick if he doesn't already have one.

I do not, that's why I rely on the internet to provide them.

(BTW? That would be totally badass if you came up here. Get a job, you bum)

I'm working on it! I'm working on it! Just got the okay from the wife if I am gainfully employed and am actually waiting on the current job prospect to approve the funds to hire me and get with the trainings.

Seriously? Greatest thing ever if you show up to this.

Color me interested still, I will say yes.
Wish I still lived in Akron it would make it easier. What am I talking about, I drove to Pitt for a S&T.

I lived in Akron. Except for Luigi's, you're better off "Prowlin' the Wasteland" =)

Though Luigi's... man... I've got someone coming from Akron, I might place an order with him. I haven't had that in... oh man, so long.

I am extremely pleased you can make it, Bill. I'll PM you the details when we get closer to the date.

I am sorting out a crapload of things right now, but I will do a few hour drive and make it down there if things let me.

Sign me up as a maybe, but a definite sign-up!

Will you have snow cones?

I can neither confirm nor deny snow cones but if you end up driving from NJ, then we will certainly give it a try.

Well odds are good that we will have snow, this is Ohio after all.

And it'll be October, so the traffic cones will still be out too. Snow + Cones, there you go Pikey!

Well, I'm just north of Cincy, and that's the weekend right before my birthday (Oct 26th), so I'm thinking maybe we can carpool as I'm expecting to be allowed to do this*.

* wife permission has yet to be granted, and as such, all thoughts and desires are purely speculation and simply for show.

Toss me in this bucket as well with you and Phish. If I can get approval from the wife, perhaps we can carpool along with some other SW Ohioans?

Oh guys, that would be fantastic.

If Bent came, I would be tempted. Though my newbie status still hasn't worn off, and I'm no longer in Rochester.

So I GOT THE JOB! Start on Wednesday! So, more importantly, It's looking like I'll be able to make it. It's a 10hr drive so I'm trying to figure if I should come up Friday, stay till Sunday morn and drive back Sunday. My wife is also looking into flights to Cleveland, since I'd probably be making the trip alone. What I might do is crash at a hotel Friday night, come over Saturday, crash on the floor (or hotel cause I snore like a freight train making love to an elephant) and burn out Sunday morning. I can also bring an elite xbox, 4 controllers and a 32" flat screen Teevee. I guess I could lug my comp too, if necessary.

Right now the only thing that would keep me from coming is a) crazy family issues or b) the new gig, since I might have to work on Saturday, though I'm doing the work remotely anyway so It might work out. Still havent gotten my full schedule yet.

Since Im one of like 3 goodjers in MO and the only one (that I've seen) from St.L, I'll bring stuff that the Dirty Lou is known for; toasted ravioli, st. paul sammiches, STDs and murder. Uh...on second thought, maybe I'll just bring me.

I was just thinking about this -- I wonder how long a drive it would be to come from KC and I could grab you in the Lou. Must consider / ask the bride's permission...

Bent! Grats!

I am exceedingly pleased. It might be a lot better (and cheaper) for you to fly in rather than to drive up, it isn't like I can't grab you from the airport.

toasted ravioli

Wish I could get some of that down here, along with some provel cheese, gooey butter cake, and some Cecil Whittaker's. Closest I've come on the ravioli front is making my own with the unbreaded stuff in the freezer case, but it's not the same.

Honestly, I'm not sure who runs the Con. This will be my first.

And I tried delicately approaching my wife about the idea of coming last night and it didn't go well. Still, it's over a month away, things might change.

NewEgg has the Sapphire Radeon 4650 512MB PCI-E Video Card for $39. A little dated but you can't go wrong at that price.

...What, wrong thread?
