Moving to San Francisco / S&T?

The 10th's doable.

I have to recommend trying Thirsty Bear's stout from the cask. It has such an awesomely different flavor compared to the keg. It costs more, but last time I was there (during GDC), the bartender offered me a shot to try it out, and I instantly regretted my insistence upon the tap.

May actually be able to swing by The Thirsty Bear for a drink or two before heading off to celebrate my shorty's birthday. I forgot she works until 7!

I am going to have to cancel! Dammit! Something came up this month and I cannot afford 2 car trips into the city a month.

BART it! Among the many things I miss about San Francisco, one of those I miss most is the awesome public transit system (minus the crazies).

Where are you coming from? You never know, rides might be available...

Coming from West Sacramento.

Scratch the BART option, then I was going to suggest Amtrak to the Pittsburg/Bay Point BART, but that'd be a pretty serious trip for a couple beers...

You could drive to west oakland bart, park for free and then bart in. I mention west oakland bart because its only ~$2.50 each way on bart and would save you the outrageous parking fees in SF. Pittsburgh/Bay Point bart is the closest option for you but that is like $10-11 round trip. Also, there aren't as many trains coming out that way as there are to a central hub like west oakland.

But I keep forgetting to welcome Demi to the bay area. If you appreciate cultural variety, you will love it here. (or you will learn to love it)

Here is a primer of my wife and my personal local favorites:

zachary's pizza berkley - a block away from rockridge bart for awesome chicago deep dish (great salads too), always packed so there will be a wait

barneys - berkeley right next door to zach's; good burgers and spicy curly fries or onion rings

luka's - downtown oakland on broadway, bart accessible, great french fries and beer selection (speckled hen yum!), great hang out

le chevalle - great vietnamese food in downtown oakland, bart accessible, blood orange martinis, clay pot snapper, coconut beef yum!

addis ethiopian - totally delicious; finger food; get the spicy green bean and carrot dish (fasuli or something like that), on telegraph in oakland

fiesta del mar - (mountain view) need a car to get to but my favorite mexican restaurant in the bay area, try the cabo san lucas heat margarita! the camarones a la diabla (very spicy) and the chimichanga are stand outs

luigi's deli - they must put crack in their meats because it is that good, huge sandwiches, in concord so its a 40 minute drive but worth it

wally's - its a total whole in the wall that is at the back of a dive bar in emeryville but it is so worth it, its really good Mediterranean food, they give you a big delicious bowl of lentil soup just for sitting down at the table, pomegranate chicken and kabobs and greek salads

heathcliff slocumb's ice cream - the most unusual and delicious flavors of ice cream you have ever experienced, in SF and not sure about bart accessible

charles chocolates - emeryville, free tour with samples, unbelievable gourmet twists on your favorite candies growing up (rolos, etc)

I got all excited when Cory told me about this at the PAX S&T and assured him I would be there. However my wife informs me we have other plans already ;^(. Next time...

So are we locked on thirsty bear, 6PM, Friday night?

You're going to be there, too? I call dibs on the podcast table.

Awesome! See you there!

Cool 7Inch, as you're an Eastie, I want Cory to get as much Eastie knowledge as possible.

Yay for Bay Area meetup!

Rats! Can't make it

I tried to shuffle things around but a late invite to a b'day BBQ on Friday night has put the kibosh on it.

We'll start with this: East Bay. "Beast" in Pig Latin.

I've lived there off and on since 1990. It's always been eastie to me. (grin).

I'm not getting my hopes up, but I might be there...depends on how many people are car pooling this weekend.

I like how the guy who doesn't live here is guiding the guy who is not yet living here on places to live...

I'll see you all at the Thirsty Bear. 6 PM. Friday.

Even you Rat Boy.

Woo! See you all there!

I think its just me, but I haven't seen Rabbit's new avatar and associated him with an unknown member. Now I'm super excited and will be there with bells on.

How could I refuse such a healthy repast? Count me in, I'll swing by after work!

2 hours left in Seattle. See everybody tomorrow night!

So I'm here in downtown Berkeley (at least for now). Julian was kind enough to meet me at SFO, help me get set up, then we went to Jupiter for beers and pizza.

Then San Bruno blew up. Crazy. Hope everyone's okay.

Anyway, I like this little Bay Area thing so far and can't wait to meet you guys. See you all tomorrow night!

Update your location, dude.

Jupiter is a good choice. I'd also recommend Triple Rock Brewery, about 4 or 5 blocks north of Jupiter. Thursdays they have 8.0% Monkey Head Ale. Also, very good bar food and great atmosphere.

There is also Barclays for a dive bar that brews their own beer. They are on college near zach's and barney's and rockridge bart.

And welcome!

Hate to say it, but it's looking like Luna and I won't be able to get away from work early enough to make the drive into the city tonight. We'll have to catch the next one, I suppose.
