Batman: Arkham City Catch-All

It's unnecessary, that's all I need to know.

I'm kinda torn about it. While I'm with Lard in the fact that I don't think Batman needs multiplayer, I'm willing to give the developers a little bit of rope to see where they take it. It could be something interesting.

Just hopefully it doesn't detract from the single player game. The first was pretty much a masterpiece and I'd hate to see multiplayer come into it just for the sake of adding multiplayer.

I'm not sure what to think of it. I can see the potential for a good co-op experience out of this, but it isn't necessary by any means.

Can I punch my friends in the face as Batman? How about Fallout-3-hating heretics?

Can we just copy and paste a few pages from the last thread where Lard took umbrage to multiplayer? Streamline the whole process.

Well if they would stop doing it, I wouldn't have to complain about it!

Loved the first game; really looking forward to this one. Bookmarked.

Let's see Multiplayer where PvP is:

-Everyone is Batman and rushing to see who can beat up the most punks = Kinda lame
-Everyone is Batman and beating up on each other = Totally lame
-No one is Batman and it's just punks beating up on each other = total fail

-You're one of Batman's allies (Nightwing, Robin, Batgirl, even Catwoman) and he's training you/testing you against each other = awesome!

Multiplayer where co-op is:
-Just a few maps and everyone is Batman = totally lame
-Single player campaign and it's many Batmen = still kinda lame

-Just two-player; one is Batman, the other is Catwoman and it's a separate campaign (like Portal 2). Also includes tag-team instant takedowns = Total win!

So I guess there is chance for something really good here or something terrible. Need more info.

What if everyone's the sh*tty fake Batmen from The Dark Knight? I want to be the fat guy with the umpire's chest guard!

One player gets to be Russian Martian Batman, one is Regular-Ass Batman, and the other one is Green Lantern Batman.

Stop making me do research to understand this thread.

The whole Batman with a power ring still blows my mind.

Another option...

There is one player controlled Batman and many player controlled thugs/henchmen. The thugs have their objective, and have to work as a team. The player controlling Batman has to play against the other team members, trying to thwart their nefarious deeds.

Could be a lot of fun if done right.

Lots of games didn't strictly 'need' multiplayer, but went onto making something great. They've convinced WB that they know what they're doing to the tune of several million dollars, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt given that they made the first one as awesome as they did.

And then the thug who actually gets the kill gets to be batman the next round.

Could be fun.

Almost like a 'round Robin'... Sorry, couldn't resist

I lol'ed.

Cool idea and not the first time I heard of it, but if I was a thug, I would keep shooting at the gargoyles, air vents and floor covers constantly. That takes out about 67% percent of Batman's angles of attack right there.

Alright, I'll be regular Ass-Batman.

I'll be Dark Claw Batman.

Dark Claw would kick but, but the gold on the head looks silly.

I'm confused. Since when did a feature need to be "necessary" to be fun? How do you define "necessary" in the context of an entertainment product anyway?

Please see Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena

Rather than unlocking their locations using maps, Batman will be able to scan a gang of thugs to find a potential informant. This is the guy you need to question, but first you'll have to take down all the other gang members while sparing the one you want. That can be tough when Batman's in a seamless FreeFlow combo chain.

Hmm, I'm not sure if I like or dislike this. One the one hand you have cool interrogations. On the other, a dynamic that will deliberately break the way you handle combat. The game is great with the freeflow combat... and having to stop just in case you knock out the informer kinda breaks it... maybe.

It certainly potentially does -- but it'll depend on how it's implemented. It could break the combat, or it could add another more nuanced level. And considering how rock solid the combat they designed in the first one was, I'll give this idea the benefit of the doubt.

As long as there's a clear indication of which thug you have to avoid, I think it could add a cool wrinkle to combat. I mean, in the first one you already had to remember, "Okay, can't punch that dude 'cause he has knives / a stun baton," so this is pretty much just a variation on what was already present.
