Firefall Catch-All

Probably convenience items too, if the other F2P games are the model they're working from.

Interesting how many new games seem to be going that route.

Getting people in for "free" if your product still has quality will probably always work.

The game looks pretty interesting but the immediate description on the site is eyerolling. Something about Crystites and The Melding.

Yeah, Crystites sounds like something you'll want your doctor to check out.

It's treatable now! Barring the occasional firefall flare-up.

So, is everyone that signed up for the beta using the same forum name as here? I notice there is a friends list on the forum (I want to friend you up. teehee!) and there's a whole section for armies (which I'm guessing is just a guild by a different name in this game, maybe there will be something different about it. I dunno.) Might be too early to start an Army of Goodjers, seeing as the beta isn't even released yet. But something to keep in mind.

I'm using my "standard" gaming tag: imsneakinaround

Hopefully I get into the beta, and more importantly, hopefully there's an OSX client.

HAH!

I don't like MMOs but after watching that gameplay vid, I must say that does look interesting. I may have to avoid coming back in here because this game looks like it would suck up a crap load of time.

Registered for beta, but most probably won't be able to play much, still, If I'm to play a mmo it's gonna be a free to play one for sure, so this may be it.

I'm doomed. I registered for the beta. What have I done?!?!?!

Caught the Crystite.

Looks real interesting. My obvious #1 question will be how well the game performs as a FPS serving the world-wide population. Chances are we're gonna be stuck on a chinese server

One day they'll have fibre optic cable run from my house to the US ...

This looks so awesome!

Also, I love any game that designs ships. Any ships. Schooner ships even.

I saw the live demo for this at PAX. I must say seeing it in person that they appear to be doing some very interesting things conceptually. Art design looks fantastic. I'd say a cross between Borderlands, BRINK, and a little bit of WOW for good measure.

I haven't watched the released footage so I'm not sure if they showed this but they have a very nice 1st person to 3rd person mechanism allowing you to switch back and forth on the fly depending on the situation and your preferences. Looked very very smooth.

The game appeared to be tuned for small groups (2 - 4) at least on the content they demonstrated.

Didn't get a great sense of how their mission structure will work, but they did show one interesting thing where a group of enemies attacked one of the cities in the game. The result was a dynamic mission where everyone in or near the city at the time, was tasked with defending the city from a giant insect of some sort or another. The gentleman giving the demo (I believe he was the creative director on the game) suggested that if the defense were to fail that the resources of that city (shops, forges, etc...) would no longer be available to players. Fantastic idea but I'm having a bit of difficulty imagining how that would work practically. Does the city periodically reset? Are there dynamic missions to rescue taken cities?

In anycase, I'll definitely be watching this with interest

Hats.

Firefall Forums Q&A Thread[/url]]Will it run on OSX?

The big draw for me is that Scott Youngblood is involved. Head developer for Tribes and Tribes 2. Could be real interesting. The "micro-transaction" crap has me a bit worried though.

Also, from the Firefly forums, they are asking everyone to not refer to it as an MMO. It is a team based shooter. /shrug

I don't quite like the art style. But ya can't argue with free I guess.

Sold.

And mustaches.

Mustaches are cool enough to have a party just to show off what you can grow in college - or so I was led to believe by some guys I knew.

Totally wasn't interested until I watched the gameplay video. Semi-persistent and improved Borderlands with friends? Yes please.

I really liked the more in depth info in those gametrailers interviews.

And its like borderlands except you have the added feature of being able to switch class in town. Plus your appearance changes with the better gear you get for gear other than your weapon. It does look like you can only equip 2 weapons at a time but you get more powers per class.

Can not wait for this game. Anyone else get a chance to sign up for Beta at PAX West?

I'm digging the Borderlands+Halo vibe. The gameplay video is slick in the way it builds the game from the ground up. Looking forward to seeing how this pans out.

This is what I get for missing out on the internet the week after PAX. I never saw this thread!

I signed up at the booth, was very impressed with the game. Definitely seemed like Tabula Rasa to me, as I was a big supporter of TR. Very intrigued about the whole free-to-play thing. What if it does well and sets a trend!?

I talked to the dev that did the presentation, here are some things I remember:

They really didn't want to call it a MMO. They want more like Diablo, an online game you can play with your friends, except the world is persistent. Sounds like a MMO but maybe with all the MMOs failing they don't want to be seen as a future failure.

The game will have deep character customization, down to things like tweaking your weapons for things like damage, rate of fire, not to mention all the power armor customization.

The game will be very focused on guilds/clans (in Firefall it's Armies). You can share global missions with your Army, do events together, etc. WoW has a lot of that in Cataclysm I think, where a player's e-peen contributes to the guild's e-peen. Sounds fun!

Cel-shading? Meh.
