It's hard work, but someone has to clear the Pile

Pages

Welcome to another month and another Pile of Shame thread! Since the 6th is Labor Day, I give everyone a free pass to not play their pile of shame game that day. Not that my passes amount to much, but that's another discussion. We're getting close to the "major release" time of the year, so let's see if we can't knock out a couple of more titles before the holiday shiny catches our eyes.

A quick reminder, in order to be considered "Pile of Shame" the game needs to be at least three months old. Otherwise, it's just a new game you haven't gotten to playing yet.

Also, if you are curious about some of the previous threads, Pick's of the Pile, etc... Please go here and check out the Google doc I setup.

Let's get on to the games!

This month's Pick of the Pile is

[size=30][b]Bayonetta

"Bayonetta takes place in Vigrid, a fictional city in Europe. The title character (voiced by Hellena Taylor) is a witch who shapeshifts and uses various firearms, along with magical attacks she performs with her own hair, to dispatch her foes. She awakens after a 500 year sleep and finds herself in an unfamiliar area with no memories of who or what she is. Over time, she begins to remember what caused her current predicament. 500 years before the incident that caused Bayonetta's memory loss, there were two factions preserving the balance between darkness and light in the world—the Umbra Witches, who are followers of darkness and their counterparts, the Lumen Sages, who are followers of light. The factions shared two distinct treasures, the 'Eyes of the World' that were separately named the 'Left Eye' and the 'Right Eye', which they used to oversee the just passage of time. Both factions mysteriously disappeared from Vigrid under unknown circumstances. Bayonetta still has an ornate piece of jewelry which contains a small red gem, and believes this gem is the 'Left Eye' of the 'Eyes of the World'. While searching for the "Right Eye", she often receives flashbacks that make her remember what caused her current predicament." (wikipedia.com)

GTA4: The Lost and Damned

Alrighty. putting something on the pile for this month. I have a few games that have been sitting around because they played like ass on my old machine, now they are far more pleasant.

Will start slow though and put myself in for Crysis Warhead.

I'm getting back on the pile bandwagon by putting myself down for Moon on the DS this month.

Nier for me, please, although Other M may well eat up all my gaming time.

I will be rolling Forza 3 over from last month. So much racing ...

Once more, Persona 3: FES on my pile. 70 hours in and hoping I can play a little bit more than I did last month.

Minecraft and Starcraft say I'm too busy to play old games.

I am going to be sassy and go for Alan Wake. Let's see if it really is as good as everyone says.

I'm also going to put myself down for all the Fallout 3 DLC. I beat Fallout 3 a long time ago but have left it installed for almost a year and a half meaning to do all the DLC. I'm going to try to power through all of it this weekend. I forgot what a buggy piece of crap the PC version still is though so it may be a trick, we'll see.

I happily finished The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom (PC) yesterday. It's great that I met my quota on the first day of the month. You can put me down for Super Mario Galaxy 2 since three months have passed from the release date.

I've been failing at Dawn of War 2 for a couple months, but I might as well keep it up on the board for another month. On the other hand, I've got a DS copy of Chrono Trigger that I'm really enjoying, so sign me up for that too, and I might actually have a success for a change.

This month is brought to us by the letter 'B'. Pop me down for Bioshock and Borderlands: Mad Moxi DLC please.

Gears bonus weekend will distract me slightly, but I should be able to stay on target for the remainder of the month

Yeah, those two are a big distractions. What's with games ending in 'craft' being totally awesome? But every now and then it's refreshing to shoot Koreans in the face.

I'm almost finished No More Heroes

I'm planning on finishing up World of Goo on the PC. I'm about two thirds done.

Serious backcatalog time: Xenosaga!

Last time I carry over Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Trials and Tribulations. I think I'm half-way through the last case. I must say, they decided to bring their A game for the last case starring the loathing pointer. I expect this case to finish strong, but I'm sure I've already pieced the mystery together from the outset (unusual for me).

I really want to finish the Penumbra series before Amnesia, but I've got the feeling that won't happen. The fact is they're some MMO's with free weekends (Love), betas (FFXIV), and I FINALLY have an HD console. I spent two hours and twenty minutes playing Demon's Souls last night when I knew I should've gotten some rest for work, which I luckily didn't have!

I'd put Demon's Souls up but I have a feeling that's a game I'm not going to put down anytime soon. What the hell, put me down for Penumbra. I will finish it before I play Amnesia; it's just a matter of when.

Nope. Can't do it.

I just cannot get into Dead Rising at all. I think I'll just give up and watch a 'Lets Play' for the story, so I'm going to shelve it again for now.

Instead, I'm going to finish up Secret Files: Puritas Cordis and I think I might also see if I can get through BG : Dark Alliance (PS2 version) without cursing it for sullying the good name of Baldurs Gate (no promises).

My copy of Get Lamp just arrived the other day as well, so I've been in the mood for something REALLY old school, so I'm going to have a stab at some of the old Infocom games, starting with The Lurking Horror I think.

Final Fantasy 13 for me again this month, though with me being a week away this month, it might trail into October...

Well, I've got three days ahead of me. I think it is time to plow through Baldur's Gate 1 again, but on core difficulty with the Sword Coast Stratagems mod installed. Time to get my ass kicked.

Secret Files: Puritas Cordis is down. Better than the first one - still not great though.

I'm expecting better thing from their next game, Lost Horizon, which is out this month. The demo was pretty good anyway.

I'd like to put down Super Mario Galaxy 1 (at least save teh Princess) and Trine for this month.

OK, the HDD on my fancy laptop died, so I'm going to take this opportunity to finish any or all of the following:

- Mass Effect 2
- Uncharted 2
- Bayonetta

I think that's reasonable for a month.

I'm going to give JRPG's one final chance at regaining my affections. Sign me up for Final Fantasy 13.

Wish me luck!

Still perusing the pile to see what looks appealing this month.

I'm just starting chapter 2 of The Witcher (PC), so I'll try to bang that one out this month.

I'm glad I didn't commit to anything over the weekend because all I did was play a lot of Neverwinter Nights multiplayer. (Ah, NWN: The Game I Never Get Tired Of)

I need to knock out some of the stuff I bought during that last Steam sale, but nothing's caught my eye yet...

I will offer the same advice I offer everyone. You will feel bogged down in Vizima, you will want to walk away, but if you get through it is so worth it.

Appreciated! Given that I just started that area the advice is well-timed.

I killed Uncharted 2!

Now I need to find another game to take on...

I'll make a decision when I'm done with Scott Pilgrim.
