Dead Rising 2: I saw your zombie, and your zombie was dead. Case West 360 exclusive?

Pages

The date is official, Dead Rising 2 coming September 28 out NOW. Case Zero launched on the XBox 360. A movie, Zombrex Dead Rising Sun, will be episodically released on XBox 360 and later on the PC, and possibly packed into one of the special editions. A movie which could be delightfully bad, or horribly worse, judging by the trailer, I reserve judgment.

Capcom has recruited Playboy magazine for some in-game cross-over type stuff:

Add to that some silly looking age-gated press photos:

Not to mention the little Amazon bar on the left column of Gamers With Jobs for you to pre-order Dead Rising 2, and even with the new improved Zombrex edition:

... you'd think Capcom has put some serious faith into this game?

Synopsis:

Several years have passed since the Wilamette incident, and Dead Rising 2 shifts the action from the everyday world of mid-West America to the glitz and glamour of Fortune City, America’s latest and greatest entertainment playground. People flock to Fortune City from around the globe to escape from reality and the chance to win big and for some, this means competing in Terror is Reality.

Like millions of Americans former national motocross champion, Chuck Greene, is gripped by the TV sensation that is Terror is Reality. Hosted by the flamboyant Tyrone King, Terror is Reality pits ordinary members of the public against an arena full of zombies with a simple challenge – kill more zombies than your opponents and stay alive with the winner collecting big money and the chance to come back and secure even greater prizes. So, what is it that has forced Chuck to come to Fortune City and risk his life in the modern day gladiatorial contest, is he trying to recapture the fame of his motocross days, does he have a reason to hate zombies, or is it simply the lure of big money?

With hundreds of zombies on screen at any one time, the original Dead Rising forced gamers to take everyday objects they found in the Mall and use them as weapons. But now, in Dead Rising 2 with thousands of zombies filling every square inch of Fortune City, Chuck is going to need to be even more resourceful and inventive. Cue combination weapons…

Players will be able to take two objects, a roll of tape and with a little inventiveness create an advanced zombie-killing combo weapon - a piece of wood and a lawnmower become Portamower, the handheld mower that cuts zombies down to size in an instant, while a garden rake and car battery combine to create an electrified zombie prod. Creating and using combination weapons will not just result in novel ways to tackle Dead Rising 2’s shuffling cast of thousands as the more combo weapons a player uses, the more Prestige Points (PPs) they will rack up. Earn enough PPs and Chuck levels up, which in turn delivers its own benefits.

. It's a fair bet to say that I have an un-dead chub for this game.

*edit*
I searched for a catch-all, but all I found was the Down with the Sickness thread and the other Dead Rising (1) thread. Feel free to cough some zombified phlegm at me for this one.

I'm certainly looking forward to it. Any news on the save system? I'm in the minority who thought the old save system was fine.

The old system was fine provided you knew you were supposed to die and restart a few times when you first started although even then they should have let you skip the first bit of the game which was basically just a tutorial. They did a really bad job of communicating this and people got frustrated as a result.

Is Otis dead? He'd better be.

That's rude!

Kudos to MaxShrek for the Suicidal Tendencies reference in the thread title.

I played Dead Rising a bit on a SDTV when it came out, which was frustrating due to all the tiny, unreadable text. I need to see how cheap I can get a copy these days and play it again.

Cram it, Otis! I had to put the phone down because the living dead tried to mouth-rape me, while you're up there in the security room trying to get Jessie to touch your old balls.

Watched a bit of the in-game from Case Zero, looks to be pretty fekkin sweet.

Case Zero is coming August 31 for $5 on XBLA. Capcom also launched another website related to Dead Rising 2, Visiting Fortune City, which shows what you can do, apparently also the adult nightlife- strip clubs, adult movie and novelty stores. Also a Zombie Zoo, and a Miss Fortune City beauty pageant.

" I can see Alaska from here! "

Dead Rising was one of my favorite early-years 360 games, and I'm very hopeful for this one. I'm concerned that they are backing off on the 'one save slot' approach. It was part of what made the first game so tense, to me, and a 'nuts-to-you-if-you-don't-like-it' developer attitude that I respected.

Not sure how I feel about the Playboy license. The zombie invasion legitimizes the violence and the license seems to legitimize the sex, and I'm all for letting the developers throw whatever they like in there. On the other, judging by the screenshots it looks like what they're taking from the Playboy license is that stupid bunny outfit. If they throw in any licensed "bunnies," that will be completely and totally lost on me... which seems appropriate, as those ladies are not exactly hired for their personalities or opinions, but for their proximity to a specific bodytype we've seen in just about every game ever.

Kind of reminds me of when they got that Tera... whatserface for Saint's Row 2. Just a slightly more legitimate way of bullet-pointing "BOOBS!" as a feature.

Will this one have Co-op?

That's what this game needs to be completely awesome.

Also, no Otis.

If I can dress dopey Chuck as a Bunny, it'd be an added bonus humor.

Close enough:

Anybody else in on Case Zero this week?

I'm in.

Edit: I see I made the same post just a little above this one, so I'll leave it with this: Frank! Frank! Come on! Come on!

I'll grab it. See you online.

Any word on what time tomorrow this drops?

I'd be sometime in the morning, Eastern time. It's usually up by 7 AM.

I'm buying it, despite never having played the first one. It'll be my demo to see if I get the main game.

Ok, that's what I thought. I'll try to download it in the morning.

The first one was epic (minus a few minor flaws) and well worth the ~$15 if you can snag it on XBL or in-store. I might grab it myself and give it a playthrough before jumping into the second installment.

Did anyone give this a spin yet? Its getting praise and positive reviews from all around and seems to be well worth the purchase price. I downloaded this morning and will definitely play tonight.

93_Confirmed, I've seen your sig look like two different kinds of ASCII gibberish. I don't think it's working, my friend.

It's an up side-down classic colonial viper isn't it? Case 0 is pretty fun, and I can kill with a f*cking Jart.

I have no idea what any of that means. I must play this to find out.

I've played through it once, failing because I let my daughter die. Now I'm restarting with my levelling and money carrying over.

Love it. I'm day one on DR2. Also, sign me up for being 'do it yourself' on bringing back the One Save Only system.

In our nook of North Jersey in the 80s, Lawn Darts were known as "Jarts". You know, for kids!

.. well, maybe not.

FYI: Amazon is offering a 10 dollar card right now, plus it's 55.99.

Rake + Shotgun = WIN! It will never, ever get old. Anyone come across a master list of all the item combos?

I played through about 80% and overall, I'm really digging it. My only gripe so far is that he walks to slow and he could reall use a quick burst run or something to speed up travelling and allowing for a quick evade. Maybe this comes later with a level up. Also, the load times are awful.

Yeah, it's supposed to be a sniper rifle but the signature function isn't cooperating.

This 'game' killed my 360. For the third time since launch. The extended warranty I purchased expired 7 days ago.

I broke down and amazon prime'd a slim, but I feel kind of dirty paying more for less.

Finished this just now. I thought I'd try it despite being utterly unable to get into the first game and felt it was a MUCH better experience (although I still hate, hate, HATE time-limited missions with a fiery passion).

I think, aside from MUCH better controls, the fact that it was a very small area to explore meant that the "running too and fro" aspect wasn't much of a problem. Not sure if that'll hold out in the full game or not, but it's certainly made me consider taking a risk on it, when I was all ready to just ignore it completely.

So , er...mission accomplished Capcom I guess

Probably go back now and grab the rest of the achievements (Does the "kill 1000 zombies" one needs to be done in one run-through and not added up over restarts, etc)?

There's a drink you can mix in the first game that speeds up your run time (orange juice and coffee creamer I think). Not sure if there's any coffee available here, but there's certainly a mixer in the bar next to the gas station (the one with Gemeni and Fausto).

NOw, if you'll excuse me I need to finish up watching a Lets Play of Dead Rising so I can catch up with the plot form the first game, if only to find out...

Spoiler:

Why a wasp queen makes zombies heads asplode when squished. I sense government biological weapon shinanigans afoot!
