iPad Games (and Apps) Catch All

That looks awesome.

I'm noticing there there are quite a few comic apps. I'm assuming the Marvel and DC ones lock you into using them to view comics from them, right? Does anyone have a decent scheme for comic books all ending up on the same virtual shelf?

Marvel and DC both use comiXology, which as a standalone could do this. I actually don't think it will ever actually happen. Marvel and DC are so dominant, that it would take for everyone else to be a part of the same store and infringe on their sales before they would consider it. As it is, I don't mind using separate apps. DC is way behind, but Marvel lacks a lot of content, as well. ComiXology has some interesting content, but is still pretty sparse, as well.

It will be interesting to see what develops over the next 3-5 years.

The marvel and dc stuff all comes out on comics by comixology eventually, I think.

I use comiczeal4 and scans of stuff I own in hard copy. I will migrate to the other apps for new releases when they catch up with my trade paperback collection.

Comiczeal is really impressive. There is no guided view, of course, but the app preloads and resized the next page in the background, so there is no delay. It also brings the next listing in your collection up automatically when you reach the last page in your current issue.

The only downside is that it slows the iPad back up drastically if you have too many comics on there. By drastically, I'm talking several hours, but I had a silly amount of stuff on there.

I've really enjoyed My Kingdom: For the Princess. Can anybody recommend other games like this? I think they're called "time management" games?

[bump] Anybody?

EDIT: Nevermind. I'd been messing around with preferences and had turned off the ability to purchase apps.

Haven't lost my wi-fi connection since I've gotten home!

That's encouraging -- I'll have to do the update when I get home.

Yeah — I haven't lost my wi-fi signal once since the update.

I've also noticed an improvement in network connection behavior.

I grabbed the lite version and played it through in one sitting. I can see how you could get hooked!

The iTunes store description describes it as a click management game. The others that I have found are Sally's Salon, Diner Dash, and Suzie's Sushi. I haven't tried any of them, and they don't look as well realized as My Kingdom.

The closest game is probably Build-a-lot (for iphone, you'd have to 2X it -- but on the plus side it's only $.99): http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/build-a-lot/id309458379?mt=8

just thought everyone might want to check out Underworlds Ultimate Edition - http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/under... as it's free today. Just downloaded it myself, haven't checked it out but the toucharcade guys seem to like it. http://toucharcade.com/2009/04/22/un...

I just bought Chopper 2, which is universal, but also has a phenomenal twist; you can use a bluetooth iPhone or iPod touch as a controller for the game when it is running on an iPad or another bluetooth iOS device!

I've been playing on the iPad, using my iPhone 4 as a controller, and is is amazing. You tilt and tip the iPhone for speed and height, and put your finger on the screen to fire, dragging your finger to change the angle of fire. Control is very tight and sensitive; it uses the gyroscope on the iPhone 4. I haven't tried the other control methods (tilt or onscreen dpad) but if you have 2 bluetooth iOS devices, it is only one purchase, and I can't imagine it being better than that method.

40% off at the moment too! It was less than £2.00.

Has anyone played 100 Rogues on the iPad yet?

Yes, it is an enjoyable time Waster. Plays like almost every other rogue game out there.

CineXplayer just came out for iPad. It allows you to play xvids on the iPad without any conversion required. You import through iTunes.

The bad: No wifi transfer, annoying menu music.
The good: It works like a charm, and it is free, free, free!

Clearly, the good greatly outweighs the bad.

NOVA HD is 99c at the moment. A blatant Halo clone, but impressive.

On Jeff Cannata's recommendation, I picked up The Incident on the iPad. It's a universal app, but a fun little platformer for $1.99.

Controls great on either the iPhone or iPad, too.

Just saw this tweet from Codito development:

"has signed another exclusive iPhone / iPad game license: Vlaada Chvatil's "Through the Ages" will be coming to a device near you in 2011."

Now we're talking!

Finally got around to putting serious time into Reiner Knizia's Keltis Oracle, an adaptation of his board/card game (which I also hadn't played.) Once I got over the colorblind issues, I have to say, its super good, and i can imagine it going 4 player face to face quite well.

Since I soon may be the owner of a 32GB iPad, I started looking for games and apps to get. So far I've got PvZ, Osmos, Galcon and Cogs. Played the demos for the latter three and I own the Steam version of PvZ. Any other recommended games? Something along the lines of puzzles, simulations, TBS or RPG? I am not quite sure yet what to make of Warpgate HD...

Edit: Oh yeah, what is CastleCraft about?

Angry Birds is a must.

Not sure what CastleCraft is, either. But, I'll second the Angry Birds recommendation. Aside from what you've already mentioned, I've also enjoyed:

* 100 Rogues (rogue-like)
* Dungeon Hunter (Diablo-like)
* Underworlds (Diablo-like)
* Carcassone (iPhone version, but great on iPad)
* Canabalt
* Mirror's Edge
* TapRap Radiation
* Flight Control HD (my wife loves it)

Ohh, man. If this actually works on the iPhone, it will destroy my life, and the lives of several friends of mine.

They updated Angry Birds AGAIN. Can't believe how much game they're giving us for so little money.

Zombie Infection is down to 59p this weekend. It's a 3rd person shooter. Another of Gameloft's clones, but what I've played so far beats Resi 4 for iOS hands down. The voice acting and characters are dreadful, though; thank Jebus for the skip button.

Got the device today. I would have never gotten this myself, but as a gift, i can see myself spending a lot of time with it. Picked up PvZ right away (awesome) and also took a look at the Cogs demo. I think i'll drop another twenty bucks on a couple of other titles. Just love the ease of use and the general feel of playing around with it.

I picked up solomon's keep and helsing's fire this weekend at my parents. Both are iphone games that scale nicely to ipad. Helsing's fire is a puzzle game, neat mechanics but I found it easy (course I have a 140 IQ, so your experience may vary). Solomon's keep is a pretty decent diablo clone. I put in 3-4 hours on it and really enjoyed it. Great bang for buck.

Normal mode isn't too bad, but that's why they added absurd difficulty with the latest version. (Pick "settings" from the menu to adjust the difficulty -- you can do so in the middle of a game if you want.)

I am having a problem with Twitter using the iPad. So far, I have tried three Twitter apps and none off them let's me login using my correct username and password. Does this sound familiar to any of you or does someone have a solution to this problem?

I've used a lot of the Twitter apps without issue (Twitter for iPad, Twitterific, Osfoora, Echofon). My favourite is Echofon. The issue might be related to the recent login changes Twitter made. Did you double-check your username/password on twitter.com?

I haven't had any issues with Twitter on my iPad. I really like their newest app. I was using Twitterific for a long while, and did a little of Echofon.
