Demo? Hell yeah. Thanks. Didn't think we'd be so lucky.

Played through a few times and found it's every bit as awesome as the first.

This seems like a deal that this crowd would enjoy: Star Hope: The Last Ocean International is Amazon's video game deal of the day at $29.99 (50% off). This is the version of the game that includes the original Japanese voice acting which, from everything I've read and seen, dramatically improves the quality of the game. When people talk about abandoning this one on the 360, it's usually because of the shoddy localization.

Once again, for the sake of comparison, here's the same scene in English:

And in Japanese:

Trailer for Knights in the Nightmare (PSP):

I honestly have no idea why they're porting Knights in the Nightmare to the PSP. Then again, I haven't watched a single video on it because I already have it for the DS aaaaaaaand I can't think of any reason this would play better without a stylus or some sort of touch interface.

I hadn't realized it was a port. That's what I get for not having any handheld consoles; I don't even browse that part of the store.

Finally got around to the demo ... and it's more of the same. That sounds bad, but I don't entirely mean it that way. It's Valkyria Chronicles on the PSP ... but the demo didn't show much new. So, I'm a little less excited, but, man, did I ever love the first game. Just wish the scoring wasn't based on completion speed as I just tore through everything with scouts.

I've got a $20 game credit with Amazon and I'm split on whether to use it on Valkyria Chronicles 2 or Ys Seven. I know I'll enjoy VC2 and probably play that straight through as soon as I put my hands on it, but Ys Seven is intriguing to me. I've only really played the SNES Ys and am interested in the game, especially on a handheld. They're pimping it as portable friendly because you can save anywhere, literally. That's appealing to me, but I'm also attracted to the fact this Ys game has been developed specifically for the PSP and therefore isn't a port.

Honestly, at some point I will own both of these games, but I'm just torn between which I want to support now. Maybe I'll just throw Ys onto my Amazon wishlist and expect it at Christmas. That way if I don't like it I won't feel like I "wasted" my money.

T-t-triple post!

Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together will be coming to the PSP. It's a remake of the PS1 game of the same name. I can't find a release date as of yet.

I took out the first map with a scout and sniper. Sent the others to reserves and took out the second map with a scout, lancer and shocktrooper. Best I got was B.

Ys is a little too action based for my taste.

Yeah, my "problem" with the VC2 demo was that all I needed was a scout to run through the whole thing and get a good score. I inadvertently played the first game by utilizing mostly scouts because they had the best range overall and it seems that with their scoring system that still is true in the second game. I had wanted them to tweak the scoring system to allow me to bring up the slower characters so that lancers and snipers actually mattered the whole game.

Maybe I should just play the game on hard ...

The scoring system was a "problem" with the first game too. To get the high scores, it really rewarded only speed (minimum number of moves), which usually involved squeaking a scout through some long risky path. It was great for additional challenge, but they gave it such prominence that you felt stupid for getting low scores.

Well, I ended up going to VC2 route anyway. Since I had a $20 credit with Amazon I figured I'd put that towards a $40 release rather than the $30 Ys Seven. Yeah, that was my logic.

Plus there are more varied missions and enemy types than what the demo had.

RPGs in general should not have DLC - but handheld rpgs should not have DLC. Period.

Care to explain what this is in regards to?

It works great for DQXI. You connect to the internet daily, and you get discounted stuff. Also, there's a free quest a week.

No problems there.

I think it is in regards to Lard's desire to go into every possible thread and pick a fight about DLC.

In general, I'd agree, because a good RPG should be carefully balanced and you can't add much of significance without the risk of breaking that balance. On the other hand, it might be a good way to deliver "post-game" content: optional dungeons or bosses for high-level characters who have presumably reached the final save point of the game. On the third hand, if you are not including some of that stuff in the box, I don't think I want to buy your RPG in the first place.

On the fourth hand, what if the whole RPG is DLC, like picking up a classic Final Fantasy on the Playstation Store?

First off, I don't want to know where you're getting a third or fourth hand from.

That said, I agree... to a certain extent. If we're talking day 0 DLC that's on the disc(Bioware and EA, I'm looking at you), then it should be on the disc for free, because most of the time, it's on the disc anyway.

If we're talking content that was developed completely after the game went gold, then I don't have a problem with it, especially it's more stuff for a good game.

Oh, right, I forgot about that. I figured a certain game was pissing him off, but ...

What JRPGs have actually had DLC? Valkyria Chronicles .... None of the others I own, most of which are handheld, so ...

Edit: F**k! Lard did it. We're talking about DLC. Damn him.

Tagging for future reference..

Atlas' Catherine trailer (Japanese)

I don't know what I just watched, but the in-engine stuff looks cool. I like the art design they have going on there.

Other than that .......... sheep?

Sheep and oogaba. What could go wrong?

I have...no......what?

But I want it. Atlus is really good at finding games like that. I felt the same way about the first Persona 3 trailer I saw.

Oops - double post, sorry.

Valkyria Chronicles II

garion333 wrote:

Folklore. One of the Tales games - I forget which one. Both Mass Effects as well as Dragon Age. Lost Odyssey. And I believe both Infinite Undiscovery and Star Ocean 4 had it on the 360.

Plenty this gen.

NIS games have had a lot of DLC this gen.

Valkyria Chronicles II comes out tomorrow. I'd be looking forward to it more if I knew I was going to be playing it tomorrow, but I've just got too much going on right now.

Still, Ign already has a review up already.

Going to DL it tonight, can't wait!

Had to stop watching that review because it was playing out like a 2nd grade book report. Just tell me about gameplay and pros/cons. Don't explain, and spoil, the whole damn story.

So, I downloaded Valkyria Chronicles 2 from the PSN. Pretty sweet so far.

I've never downloaded a game to a memory stick before, do I still do the "Install" option on the main menu? It seems a silly notion since the whole thing is on the flash drive (with fast load times) but could there be missing features if you don't install?
