Moving to San Francisco / S&T?

Pages

Hey Bay Area Goodjers!

I said something on Twitter on Monday, but it's more official here: I'm leaving Seattle for a better job in San Francisco, which means I'm moving to the Bay Area.

I'm invading your neighborhood.

The big move is happening after PAX, which I'm attempting to turn into a big going-away bash for me because my narcissism is rampant. Should be in town the weekend of the 10th, for a start date of the 13th.

Why am I telling you all this, besides the aforementioned narcissism? Simple: I want to hang out with all of you.

How do you all feel about getting together in September for drinks, games or general shenanigans? I've spoken to a couple of you in private, but a big get-together sounds like a blast to me and I'm eager to hear about all the greatness SF has to offer. Either someplace in SF proper or in the East Bay (maybe Endgame?) works for me.

Who's interested?

You know I'm down with it, or up for it, or whatever preposition suits you best.

I'm in and we locals should give Demiurge the traditional welcoming to San Francisco gifts, such as Rice-a-Roni, a tye-dye T-shirt, and indigenous head wear. I'm thinking either a Kung Fu Panda hat or a Tim Lincecum wig.

I thought Rice-a-Roni was a myth.

You could also go dumpster-diving and Craigslisting for furniture to fill your new place-- that was a very San Franciscan thing to do while I was living there. Sadly, though, I won't be there because I am now here. You're a few months too late. Try to have fun anyway...

Count me in!

Count me in, sir!

Whereabouts are you moving to in the city? I just moved out of the city myself (20 mins South on the peninsula). I do host regular board game/rockband events at my place (or elsewhere) and will be happy to include you on the invites.

I am fond of S&Ts. If it's not between the 16th and 19th, I'll be there.

I'll be there.

We must bring Its-Its and sourdough bread.

I could be up for it, depending upon when/where. Like HedgeWizard, I'm down the peninsula about 30 mins, but I'm in SF mid-week learnin' & stuff.

If it's on the weekend I'll definitely be there, if it's a weekday it'll just be a craps-shoot.

Ah come on, you're Mister S&T, at least according to a little podcast I just listened to.

Actually looking for a temp spot in Berkley, on rabbit's recommendation. Might eventually end up on the west side of the bay. Still, my idealistic view is that with BART, I can get anywhere. Isn't idealism grand?

Probably a weekend. And hopefully this will be the first of many.

Ditto. You guys do know that the 17th -19th is Monterey Jazz Festival, right? It is literally the biggest, greatest, and best Jazz festival on the west coast. (Canadian goodjers, I've been to the Vancouver Jazz fest, and it doesn't even compare to the greatness of Monterey. Although that may be a topic for another thread...)

Anyhoo, any other day is fair game. It's not like I actually do any real work at my job any way, so just give fair notice and I'm in.

Oh, and if we're talking Berkley, Jupiter is where it's at. If in SF, I highly recommend Mars. Both easily accessible via BART. I've got a thing for bars named after planets. Go figure.

I'll just say that the East Bay is the legitest.

I'm down! I work in the financial district on the weekdays, but if its on the weekend, sure, why not?

Except to say that outside of Berkeley and the occasional pilgrimage to End Game Oakland for S&T funtime, there's NO OTHER REASON TO GO TO THE EAST BAY! (oh no he didn't!)

The City is the premier choice, IMO. But you know, Berkeley's cool too. Sadly BART doesn't go too far south down on the Peninsula, but if you're in the city, CalTrain is a good substitute.

I really miss living in the city, but I have a daughter and my work commute was killing my ability to spend time with her.

Where is your work going to be? In the city? In the East Bay?

Maybe we should start a Goodjer Commune out here.

The wife and I have been planning on moving to SF as well after visiting earlier this year- we fell in love with the place the moment we stepped off the plane. Now we can stalk you, too! All the more reason to go!

I'll be working in the Financial District. Sounds like a 20 minute BART ride, if I'm planning everything out right. Still finalizing the apartment.

As for meetup locations, Endgame is always a winner. I actually went over there when I flew in for my interview dinner, and fell in love with the place. But I'm not against meeting in SF or Berkeley or wherever. I'm new enough to not know better. I *do* like bars.

I'll be up for a mid-week - Tuesday, Wednesday or late Thursday - gtg anywhere downtown SF.

It's a lot easier for me to get to somewhere in the city, but I am not opposed to meeting at Endgame.

I will say, traffic in the East Bay SUXX0RZ! Travel time from Mountain View to Endgame this evening was 44 minutes, and I left early! The last 8 miles took me 40 minutes. I f-ing hate 880.

Are you going to have a car, or are you entirely relying on public transportation?

Public transportation and the occasional Zipcar is the plan.

We could do this, too. More of a happy hour kind of thing, where the weekend meetup might be focused on some gaming.

Luna and I are probably going to be out of town the 14th through the 18th, but other than that we might be able to swing the drive down to the city, especially if its on a weekend. Oh, and since we all know how much you like to dance, you might add one of Luna's favorite SF events to your calendar: Love Fest.

I'd recommend checking out your company's incentives with Zipcar (if you haven't already). When I was living in San Francisco, the company I worked for had a deal going with Zipcar that offered employees a massive discount on the membership and use of the cars-- massive as in a fraction of the cost for off-the-street accounts. Being a San Francisco company, I'm betting your employers have something along those lines as well.

Actually we're out of town the 11th to the 15th. I usually work until 7pm Mon-Thurs so if we make it for a Friday or Saturday that'd work best for us. And yes, you should definitely go to LoveFest. I've been restricting my calories so I can wear next to nothing in public that day!

Pfft, looking at the calendar for the right month is totally overrated.

I might be persuaded to come up from LA.... San Fransico...SF ..... SF......SFIV?

I see what you did there.
