Android Games Catch-All

My hero. Holy crap it works. Playing NES with my wiimote on my Droid right now.

Will hook up my classic controller for SNES. Wow.

I am not sure which droid you have but if you have the motodroid (with the real keyboard) the game gripper looks nice. I was mildly jellous when I realized that it used the existing keyboard and was not a bluetooth attachment for any android phone. But I guess that is what I get for not getting a physical keyboard.

Edit: I forgot to say, Yeah it rocks doesn't it!

I got my Game Gripper today. Works perfectly on the Droid. Emulation just got a lot better.

I got Everlands today. It is fun hex game that seems to be a mixture of Pokemon and Othello. You have various animals with attack, defense, and a special ability that you place on a hex. You can only attack certain hexes. If you defeat another animal he fights for you. You keep placing animals until the board is full. The winner is whoever has the most animals at the end. I'm enjoying it so far and it is quick to play.

Backbreaker Football is currently on sale for $.99. It is well worth a dollar. You pretty much just run the football but it's a lot of fun. Watching the replays of the tackles is fun as well. If you like football games this is a wonderful little* time waster.

Note that little is not literal. This game is quite large and (thus far) does not install to SD card even in 2.2. For me that is very much a negative as my Nexus 1 has been low on disk space for quite some time. I deleted two other games and a couple of apps to make space for it. Normally I think very hard about which games to keep on my phone unless they install to SD card. This one will stay for quite a while even though it's 20 meg of my limited space..

Just got my Droid 2 yesterday, and have already been enjoying some Snesoid. Anybody know if the Game Gripper will fit the Droid 2? I assume so since the Droid 2 appears to be the same dimensions as the original.

The keyboard is different though, should probably make sure.

I've emailed their customer support & will post here when I hear back.

As long as we're on the topic of emulation, has anybody seen a DOSBox-style emulator for Android?

Got me curious. Nothing in the market yet I think. But I found a couple interesting things.

Apple 2e emulator

aDOSBox is being worked on. Currently physical keyboards only (Yay Droid!) And alpha, so very slow, will be a while... but at least it's out there.

EDIT: Lazy searching on my part. Apparently 2 other DOS emulators exist.

QEMU

BOCHS

Full article here, with links to some games too.

I am eagerly awaiting the re-release of SCUMMVM for 2.2. At first I thought it worked, but then realized it didn't work on 2.2... sad day... soon I hope, I gotta get my Monkey Island in my pocket.

Got a response from Game Gripper re: product for the Droid 2:

"We haven't tried it yet, but the Droid gg will most likely not fit. However, we do plan on making a game gripper for the Droid 2. You can keep up to date with our facebook fanpage."

Oh well.

Stele, nice find on the Apple IIe emulator! I may fire that up.

Be wary when trying out classic RPGs - the emulator doesn't handle making new character disks, etc. and I've had it corrupt data. For arcade-type games it works great.

Now if someone can try it with Oregon Trail I would love you forever and ever.

Win Phone 7 will have Oregon Trail.

(see the press release button at the bottom)

I still want my Plants Vs. Zombies.... That would round out the android market nicely.

No-one's mentioned yet that Galcon is out?

That's cool. I purchased it on PC, but I could see myself spending much more time on it as a mobile game than as a PC game. Seems more suited to that IMO.

Steam says I've dedicated a whopping 50 minutes to the game. And I thought I gave it a pretty good go!

It's ok on Steam. Can't remember what cheap sale I got it on. But I don't think I loved it enough to buy it again.

PvsZ on the other hand...

And exactly how does that effect me and my Droid X (which I won't be getting rid of for 2 years or it dies)?

I just thought it was funny to see on the list. And I thought Gameloft did Android games, too, but it seems they are only iphone right now.

(I'm buying an Evo, so I'm not trolling)

Cool. I tried two clones of Galcon on Android but neither were anywhere near as polished nor did they have the options that galcon did. One did install to SD card, though. Hopefully Galcon does as well.

Bejeweled is coming. Just so you can buy it again.

Nice! Popcap's had an Android landing page for a while now, and they've mentioned working on Android in the past, too, but this is the first mention I've seen of a specific game being mentioned.

Man, I've already played a bunch of Galcon Great little game, perfect for filling those spare minutes (or half-minutes) here and there.

It sounds like the Angry Birds port might not be too far off! I'm not sure exactly how much stock to put in this, but given that the port had already been announced, it seems entirely plausible.

Bought. Thanks for the heads up!

End of the month is the current release time, and there are already vids floating about of it running on android phones.

I have had Bejeweled on my N1 for a bit now. It is being sold through EA Mobile but is $1.99 right now through the android market. I tried to get a webpage but it doesn't show up in appbrain for some reason. Just search in the market.

Has anyone played Zenonia? http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.gamevil.zenonia

It looks like it has potential but I was wondering if anyone had a good time with it?

Switchbreak had some good things to say about it, I think, and there are a few reviews around the place as well. It's been out for a while, and was out on iPhone for a while before that even, so you should be able to hit up YouTube to get an idea of how it plays.

I enjoyed the free version, but not enough to buy the full version.

I bought the full version of Zenonia, but the phone is in for repairs right now, so I haven't played anything past the demo.

I played the iPhone version, but it got kind of grindy after a while, and I never finished it.
